To be told if a boy is sleeping with the girls at girl guides camp

The guides have changed their guidance on boys attending meeting, trips and over night stays.

Previously the rule was no boys allowed.

Now all boys allowed but don't tell the girls or parents, unless the boy and his parents give permission !

There are already a massive amount of forms for attending rainbows, brownies, guides or Senior section which need signing, from permissions for photos to health and safety for activities but if a boy want to watch my 10yo undress that is ok and no one will be asking permission from my daughter or us !

How can this be legal ? Do girls have no rights in the UK in 2017 ?

Thanks Time.

hendopolis · 15/01/2017 00:21

I did tweet that front page but I really have no idea if it's true.

venusinscorpio · 15/01/2017 00:22

It's looking like it is.

venusinscorpio · 15/01/2017 00:24

As in it's looking like it's a real headline. Who knows whether it's really true.

Datun · 15/01/2017 00:28

Well yes, none of it should surprise me. In the answer to my letter to my MP, Caroline Dinedage, purported to find autogynephilia 'controversial'.

Datun · 15/01/2017 00:28
  • The existence of it, I mean
Time4adrink · 15/01/2017 00:29

Yes it sounds like a lot of rumour but
Maybe
It will highlight the potential risks of accepting that people are whatever sex they feelz

Datun · 15/01/2017 00:33

The article says he has to pass rigorous psychological tests before he can claim transgender. I thought that was no longer necessary.

AVirginLitTheCandle · 15/01/2017 00:44

Jesus...

CalebHadToSplit · 15/01/2017 07:47

I've received a holding email from GGUK, which says I'll receive a response within a week.

DameDeDoubtance · 15/01/2017 08:11

Autogynephilia is only controversial because it doesn't fit the narrative, 5 minutes in a forum tells you how real it is, unless you buy the line that all women get turned on when putting underwear on.

Cramming everyone under the same umbrella is dangerous. There is a new story every day off a mtt causing harm to people but no one joins the dots. No one wants to join the dots.

averylongtimeago · 15/01/2017 08:31

@CalebHadToSplit please can you post the reply, as a,guided I am VERY interested in the reply.
I think gguk is pushing us in a direction we (the members) don't want to go.

Morphene

I think your contributions to this thread have been excellent. You are indeed correct that promoting and encouraging segregation in the name of equality is insanity. The language used on here conjures up images of little girls heads being held in front of grown mens crotches.

growapear · 15/01/2017 08:33

Perhaps even that they are being cruel to exclude someone.

Which is why there are no boys only groups left. And who was it that started the whole fuss about sex based exclusion being a bad thing ? What's clear from this thread is that some posters think that any male only space is in and of itself bad, whereas a female only space is in and of itself good. We have a name for that.

midcenturymodern · 15/01/2017 08:44

The Transgender equality report from last year says the Gender Recognition Act should be updated in line with the principles of self declaration. The 'protected characteristic' should be gender identity rather than 'transexual' or 'gender reassignment' to respect personal autonomy. There is no requirement for any medical treatment (It's traumatising and humiliating to ask if someone has had this, and also 'pedantic') and to live 'in role' is 'arbitrary and unreasonable' (obviously they don't say what ''in role' means).

As for prisoners prisoners must be located according to their gender as recognised under UK law
a trans prisoner may be “sufficiently advanced in the gender reassignment process” that they can be placed “in the estate of their acquired gender, even if the law does not yet recognise they are of their acquired gender”

@hendopolis to be honest I was questioning whether it was a mocked up front page, rather than questioning the truth of the actual story because I couldn't find a link anywhere or anything on The Star's website (at the time). It seemed both completely unbelievable yet entirely predictable. It is exactly what Maria Miller was told would happen when she said male prisoners should be allowed to self identify into the female estate but she dismissed it as 'hostility from women'. (Including the president of the British Association of Gender Identity Specialists, Dr James Barrett, who has a man's name but I don't know how he identifies)

midcenturymodern · 15/01/2017 08:51

growapear do you really think there is no difference between a female only space and an male only space?

Do you think other oppressed groups such as BAME and sexual minorities should have their spaces co-opted by straight white people or is it just women who shouldn't be allowed a room of our own?

CalebHadToSplit · 15/01/2017 08:58

I will do, averylongtime. My email to them was focused on how the new policy moving from sex to gender excludes a lot of biological females who do not identify as having a female / any gender and that Guides is supposed to be working to challenge gender stereotypes not support them.

growapear · 15/01/2017 09:00

mid

I think that segregating BAME people from white people because they otherwise would not experience the "joy" of sharing a space with people who share (some of their) biological characteristics is profoundly stupid.

Because boys are still socialised to dominate. It's really simple.

Despite being cared for by female nursery staff and educated by female teachers. This is what it boils down to - a belief that even small boys are noisy and uncouth essentially - it is personal opinion and sexism 101.

growapear · 15/01/2017 09:06

I'd love to know where the socialisation that teaches a toddler boy he's better than girls comes from. Women do the majority of childcare, nursery and primary teachers are overwhelmingly female. And yet, despite being around female authority figures 80% of their time.....what are these influences ?

Datun · 15/01/2017 09:10

FGS grow - tell it to the marines.

You don't agree with the overwhelming opinion on here, because these things don't happen to you. They happen to women.

A woman walking into a man's club is zero threat to them. It is the woman who is under threat, from banter, sexism, blah blah blah. A man in a woman's space does not GET threatened. He is the threat. Not all the time, not every man.

But the balance of power is undeniable, however much you don't like it.

So a breast cancer support group for black women based on (some of their) biological differences is 'profoundly stupid'? Hmm

You do know that their are cultural differences between different groups don't you? Lesbians have a lesbian culture that is different from straight culture. BAME groups have cultures that differ from mainstream British culture. Women have a culture that is separate from male culture. You may think it's a shit culture and only profoundly stupid people would take any joy in celebrating it but that says more about you than it does about us.

You really are going to have to do your own critical thinking. It's not the job of women to spoon feed you. There is lots of literature on the massive subject.

Datun · 15/01/2017 09:15

I, for one, don't give a rat's arse if men want to meet together. Would I?
