To expect DH to wear clothes for meals?

My dh thinks I am VERY unreasonable about this!

I cook every day for my family and all I ask in return is that we eat together at the kitchen table and that we wear clothes (as opposed to a dressing gown).

My husband likes to have a shower and put on his dressing gown (no pj's just dressing gown) and feels I'm VU in my requests that he not eat supper like that.

I don't expect people to wear anything fancy - just clothes as opposed to a gaping dressing gown.

I am cooking a roast tonight and he is in a strop because I asked him to wear clothes. I figure that if I put effort into cooking food he should make some effort back.

So MN AIBU?

Yabu.

Ringsender2 · 08/01/2017 18:20

Yanbu imho. It's a courtesy to be dressed for a sitdown meal that has taken some time to prepare. I think it would be different if it was a snacky lap meal. Although gaping dressing-gown very grim. Meat and two veg anyone??

Kerberos · 08/01/2017 18:20

Not unreasonable at all.

GobblersKnob · 08/01/2017 18:20

Of course it is just as much your house as his and you can wear what you want too. Insane to dictate to people what they can wear in their own bloody home.

Ilovecakeallday · 08/01/2017 18:20

Yabu.
I live in my pjs at home!

debbs77 · 08/01/2017 18:21

Why would anyone have to put clothes on in the evening after a shower? Surely a shower then pj's or dressing gown etc? Maybe trackie bottoms and a t-shirt. Why is it offensive to be allowed to relax in your own home?

NapQueen · 08/01/2017 18:21

What on earth is slobby about a dressing gown at 6.30pm?

I got in from work at 4.30 and swapped my suit for pj's immediately.

Friends popped in for 20 mins and I stayed as I was. About to sit and have dinner and I'm staying as I am.

QueenOfTheSardines · 08/01/2017 18:21

I'd worry about sleeves in the gravy. Dressing gowns do flop around a bit.

Whenever the kids wear dressing gowns to eat I make them roll the sleeves up.

HTH.

Janey50 · 08/01/2017 18:21

Nothing wrong with wearing a dressing gown to eat in,as long as it is NOT gaping,or pyjama bottoms at least, are worn underneath. I don't really want to be looking at DP's meat and 2 veg, whilst trying to eat my dinner!

Ilovecaindingle · 08/01/2017 18:21

At least he had a dressing gown on. .
Was imagining testicles dangling over the new dining chairs... Blush

JustCallMeKate · 08/01/2017 18:22

but a dressing gown at 6.30? Seriously? It's just slobby?!

I'm a slob, I'm in my PJ's already Grin

Yoarchie · 08/01/2017 18:25

Your poor dh!
My dh walks around in a dressing gown that sometimes flaps. Everyone laughs if they catch a glimpse of his bits! No teens so not embarrassing anyone or anything, it's good natured.
A person should be comfortable

FuzzyCustard · 08/01/2017 18:25

YABU.

And if you are sitting at a table (on opposite sides) you wouldn't be able to see if he is gaping or not.

I'd be a bit horrified if my DH dictated what I could and couldn't wear in my own house!

AliceInUnderpants · 08/01/2017 18:26

What is it specifically that offends you about the dressing gown?

FudgeBiscuits · 08/01/2017 18:27

Are his bolllocks hanging out?

Is he literally naked under the dressing gown and you can see it ALL (the gaping comment makes me think this). If yeah, YANBU - no one wants to see that whilst trying to eat their Sunday roast.

If no and he's decently covered, YABU, his choice isn't it? Just chill a bit.

AliceInUnderpants · 08/01/2017 18:27

I'm a slob, I'm in my PJ's already

I'm in my PJs ^still Grin

Fairylea · 08/01/2017 18:28

Feel sorry for your dh!

After a long day I love to put my pjs and dressing gown on. I'm usually in them by about 6 and cook dinner in them....! If dh moaned at me about it I'd be furious.

pipsqueak25 · 08/01/2017 18:28

yanbu but if it is gaping open that would be a bit grim, and to mention off putting, men's tackle isn't the nicest thing to look at Grin

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 08/01/2017 18:29

YANBU

This is the kind of thing that would irritate me too. Too Homer Simpson-ish.

pipsqueak25 · 08/01/2017 18:30

ilove urgh, god that image is now in my mind, thanks for that one ! the very thought of it Grin

Fairylea · 08/01/2017 18:30

If you're sitting at the table surely you can't see his penis can you? If his chair is pulled in it's going to be under the table. Grin

MommaGee · 08/01/2017 18:30

Do you have DC at home or other people there for the food? I think I'd ask him to put underwear on at least... But no issue with DH choosing his own clothes as he's an adult with equal rights.
Just don't let him go down the shops dressed like that or he'll end up on the DM

justaweeone · 08/01/2017 18:31

At the moment I'm in a long t shirt and a cardigan - no bottoms!
Dh in lounge shorts and t shirt
Dd in very skimpy shorts and hoody
Ds in bath but I imagine he will appear in his onesie
About to have roast Smile
We so do not dress for dinner !
