AIBU to be befuddled by friends of mine who still go clubbing?

And I mean clubbing...with glitter on their faces, drugs in their pockets...or bras...or wherever they keep them?

These are the same age as me...early 40s...we were part of the "rave scene" and when we were 19 or so spent our lives waiting for the weekend when we could go to one of the many Manchester or Liverpool clubs, get off our heads and dance all night and part of the morning too.

How the feck have they got the energy? Or the desire? They post about their Ibiza plans on FB and put pics of last year's escapades too...isn't it a bit sad?

Or am I a miserable old cow? I suppose if they love it then all good...but the drugs! They've got kids! These are professional people too...teachers and the like.

I use FB because I'm not living in the U.K. Never did at home!

Happy101415 · 06/01/2017 22:48

they really post about having drugs in their pockets???
i dont belive this ....or are you assuming they still take drugs !!?? are their children neglected in any way...if not mind your own business ..they work hard and are entitled to let loose how ever they please ..

My lifestyle is too boring to be worth plastering. Facebook is great if you live far away from friends and family though I expect

user1476869312 · 06/01/2017 22:51

I'm in my 50s and still go clubbing. Though I never liked the rave scene, was always a rock chick and still am - I like gigs, and swinging and BDSM clubs.

paxillin · 06/01/2017 22:53

Good Lord, I wouldn't have the energy. It was great fun in the day, but I am just too tired.

mummysherlock · 06/01/2017 23:03

I remember once being in a nightclub toilet touching up my make up as you do when in came a much older lady, happy as you like announced 'lm 76 years old and still out clubbing.'
Good for her I thought, and good for your friends OP if this is something they enjoy. Admittedly the drugs thing is a bit worrying (at any age), but clubbing itself is fine and night clubs don't have an upper age limit

blowmybarnacles · 06/01/2017 23:05

47 and would love a night clubbing with some drugs.

Kids, responsible job, and still love a night out but nobody else is up for it and no idea how I'd get the drugs!!!!

queenbeeee · 06/01/2017 23:12

I don't agree with the drugs. If going clubbing is your thing then why not regardless of age. My mother is 57, although she doesn't look it in the slightest. She still goes clubbing and magaluf with her 4 pals every year in sept. Why not? You don't have to hang up your dancing shoes just because you have children or because your over a certain age. It doesn't hurt anyone.

blowmybarnacles · 06/01/2017 23:13

YANBU. They sound very sad and want to escape from life if they are doing drugs and clubbing regularly at the age of 40! They are escaping from something

I love that this was said by somebody called Daydream007 Grin Grin

BusterGonad · 07/01/2017 07:07

Omg. I'm so glad I was sick last night! I almost feel human today! 😂

FudgeBiscuits · 07/01/2017 07:31

Maybe just trying to deny themselves growing older?

I would but I just haven't got the energy these days! There's enough glitter in my house from doing crafts with my DD without any more!

OhhBetty · 07/01/2017 08:50

Tatlerer
Literally no one I know who takes drugs has ever "plastered" it on Facebook or whatever. I've seen lots of drunk photos on there though!

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 07/01/2017 09:12

I can see where you're coming from user1477 - I'm not into clubbing myself - I associate it with my youth and I've grown out of it which is the point I think you're trying to make.
I've a cheerful fun-loving friend who has never got drunk/taken drugs since she had children just in case they ever got into trouble and needed her - they're in their mid 20s now! She imagines the scenario of having to go to the hospital/police station in a drunken state - can you see how she would be judged by them if that ever happened?
She enjoys herself in quieter ways now - a meal in a pub or a nice cup of tea in a garden centre - both of these would seem laughable to a clubber.

dementedma · 07/01/2017 09:14

I even hate clubbing when I was young. Too hot too crowded, too expensive, too loud. I was a boring fart even then.

OhhBetty · 07/01/2017 09:18

blitheringbuzzards1234 people can enjoy a lot of different things though. I love going to raves but probably go once a year. I also enjoy a meal in a pub or nice long walks etc. Not everyone is the same. I think if someone laughs or sneers at what someone else enjoys then they're just not very nice!

ageingrunner · 07/01/2017 10:15

Same here OhhBetty. I do like clubbing and festivals, but I also like gardening and helping my dc with homework. You can like lots of different activities. You can have a normal life and still go out once in a while. I'm "lucky" because my dc stays at his dad's fortnightly so I have the opportunity to sleep in the next day if I choose to go out.

DrCoconut · 07/01/2017 12:49

Ive been meaning to ask on here for a while. Did anyone go to Manchester uni mid 90's? I'm looking for fellow club trop veterans to reminisce with.

Ticketybootoo · 07/01/2017 22:22

Do you know what - I wouldn't condemn them really . I have never taken drugs but have drunk plenty of the legal drug alcohol and been out far too late and surprised in the past how I ever got back in one piece !

I wish I had their energy 😄
