AIBU to be befuddled by friends of mine who still go clubbing?

And I mean clubbing...with glitter on their faces, drugs in their pockets...or bras...or wherever they keep them?

These are the same age as me...early 40s...we were part of the "rave scene" and when we were 19 or so spent our lives waiting for the weekend when we could go to one of the many Manchester or Liverpool clubs, get off our heads and dance all night and part of the morning too.

How the feck have they got the energy? Or the desire? They post about their Ibiza plans on FB and put pics of last year's escapades too...isn't it a bit sad?

Or am I a miserable old cow? I suppose if they love it then all good...but the drugs! They've got kids! These are professional people too...teachers and the like.

My dh is in his 40s, loves clubbing and goes to ibiza every year. Without me cos is hate it. I wave him off happily and hippie he has fun. He also goes clubbing in the uk. But I draw the line at drugs. I've always been narrowminded about it and he knows that. But he doesn't want or need them so no problem.

I think it's silly to risk a career on illegal drugs and just as irresponsible to be in charge of your kids high as it would be to be drunk in sole charge. But go out, dance like a nutter and have fun? Go for it!

It's just down to personality. I have friends who've gone the full Mummy & don't do anything non-kid related. Others mothers, you wouldn't even know had kids / husband / semi-d in suburbia.

Same with me & my no children mates. We like sitting in, occasional gig, artsy goings on. Another mate likes scoring whatever drugs she's into, getting pissed & staying up all night with her partner.

OP, I can sort of see where you're coming from. Mind you, I've always found the whole party drug scene rather baffling, regardless of the age of the participants. It all seems a bit try- hard, a bit 'look at me' and hence, yes, a bit sad really.

BardyMum · 06/01/2017 19:10

Not sure what's 'befuddling' about this.
I'm jealous of all of you still clubbing!
Good on you. I don't drink or do drugs but I miss dancing loads..

BusterGonad · 06/01/2017 19:10

I'm still drinking and no drugs will pass my lips tonight, maybe a few fags and lots of Leffe!

joystir59 · 06/01/2017 19:57

I'm a 59 year old married lesbian (married to a woman, just to be clear). We still go dancing occasionally, and have friends older than us who are real party animals. It is quite acceptable among gay and lesbian circles for people to go out clubbing and dancing at all ages. I think its very liberating.

falange · 06/01/2017 20:05

It doesn't matter. They're not asking you to go. They're out having fun. You're not.

ThymeLord · 06/01/2017 20:12

Go for it buster! I'll be out tomorrow night til the wee hours. How 'sad' of me!

ageingrunner · 06/01/2017 20:22

Being on drugs is probably the least self-conscious one can be. Not 'look at me' at all Confused

BusterGonad · 06/01/2017 22:11

Just got home, only been out for 6 hours, I've been sick and now am drinking water and eating an apple! I'm not used to Leffe at 6.6!

BusterGonad · 06/01/2017 22:16

By the way my son is tucked up in bed with his dad! He has no clue to my drunkness!!!

BusterGonad · 06/01/2017 22:16

And it's 1.16. Am in my country!

Tatlerer · 06/01/2017 22:16

I disagree ageingrunner, when you're plastering your 'lifestyle' all over Facebook/ broadcasting it to all and sundry.

Tatlerer · 06/01/2017 22:17

Buster an apple?? Surely a bag of chips or something more carby would be better?

BusterGonad · 06/01/2017 22:18

Nooo, I need to lose weight, just come off the pill too!

BusterGonad · 06/01/2017 22:19

But thanks Tat

Tatlerer · 06/01/2017 22:21

Toast!! Dry toast!! An apple in this scenario is not your friend...

BusterGonad · 06/01/2017 22:23

Honestly, I'm ok! I'm recovering from 2 weeks in Japan and my gut (with Crohn's) is too tender for much else. But thank you for caring! ❤️

Tatlerer · 06/01/2017 22:27

Oh sorry to hear about the Crohn's, rough deal. I'd love to go to Japan! Hope you had fun!

BusterGonad · 06/01/2017 22:30

Tat it's lovely but the food smells 😷

BusterGonad · 06/01/2017 22:32

Honestly I've never smelt food like it! even now (a week later) my stomach isn't the same! But it's a lovely country, I could live there!

ageingrunner · 06/01/2017 22:35

I don't think plastering lifestyle all over Facebook is particular to drug users is it? I'm not on Facebook but I hear it's just one big lifestyle-plastering fest?

Daydream007 · 06/01/2017 22:37

YANBU. They sound very sad and want to escape from life if they are doing drugs and clubbing regularly at the age of 40! They are escaping from something!

ageingrunner · 06/01/2017 22:40

Yy Daydream! Escaping from normal everyday life for a few hours

Tatlerer · 06/01/2017 22:40

You're quite right ageingrunner, I agree with you. A highly edited, lifestyle-plastering fest!
