To severely dislike Robbie Williams?

OH has insisted on watching BBC in the run up to midnight.

I cannot stand Robbie Williams. I think he puts on a horrendously arrogant front, to the point of coming across as disingenuous. Deep down I think he's quite insecure.

There is just something about him that grates on me no end! I don't dislike his music, just find him irritating and fake.

I really dont get the antibac issue still. When has anybody been offended if a doctor antibacs their hands after seeing them or any other similar situation ? Especially at this time of year with so many bugs going round-and he has 2 children so I can see why he would want to avoid germs!

I'm not a fan myself, don't hate the man either but he's really getting laid into on here and as for the comment about him and the people who fund his lifestyle? What so if you're famous you have to be eternally grateful to every person who has ever spent anything on your music or whatever you do? I'm not sure it works like that

FrizzBombDelight · 03/01/2017 09:13

I've never forgiven him for leaving Take That.

Chippednailvarnishing · 03/01/2017 09:26

I'd be pretty insulted if my doctor pulled this face after touching me.

And the reason medical staff wash their hands before and after touching patients is primarily to protect the patients, not themselves!

To severely dislike Robbie Williams?

Angels was originally created by an Irish songwriter. I wonder where Robbie would be now if he'd not met him by chance?

bluebell34567 · 03/01/2017 10:47

I used to didn't like him but started liking him. I think he is nice, maybe insecure but good singer. he is lots better than Chris Martin.
but I didn't understand why he had to touch his bum and stick it out to the crowd. I found that very gross.

dibbley · 03/01/2017 11:08

Whaaat? Chris Martin is in a totally different league.

noeffingidea · 03/01/2017 11:14

He doesn't have to touch fans if he doesn't want to. Its not compulsory. So why touch them and then use anti bac publicly? The only other time I've seen that happen was by a wrestler in the WWE done deliberately by one of the heels (bad guys) to draw boos. Which it did, because the fans perceived it as snobby and insulting. Drawing boos is part of the wrestling game of course, but has no place at a concert. Singers want their fans to like them. They don't want to be booed.
Very bizarre.

squoosh · 03/01/2017 11:16

He's a musician for people who don't really like music.

Simonneilsbeard · 03/01/2017 11:19

I think that he thought it was funny. It wasn't it just smacked of contempt for his audience, the people who fund his lifestyle.
If he was genuinely concerned about his hygiene I'm sure he could have found a discreet way of wiping his hands.

I didn't actually see the rest of his nye performance because I turned it off as soon as fucking angels started.
Wish I'd been able to stomach the entire show just to see what happened.

DodoRevival · 03/01/2017 11:23

Medical staff tend to wash their hands before touching patients as well as after. Or should.

RockyBird · 03/01/2017 11:30

He's a musician for people who don't really like music.

Yep, you could say that about anybody who's not to your taste.

Roussette · 03/01/2017 13:08

he is lots better than Chris Martin

Hahaha.... that's the funniest thing I've read on MN for years! just wondering if you actually known who Chris Martin is...

Of all people to compare to, Chris M would not be the one I would ever imagine anyone comparing Robbie to!

Mia1415 · 03/01/2017 13:11

YABVU! I love him.

I'm sure having followed him (not in a stalking way!) for many years that the hand washing thing was a joke.

MrsPeelyWally · 03/01/2017 13:35

He's a musician for people who don't really like music

I'll remember that when I see Placido Domingo, attend 3 Operas, Westside Story the musical, and a few other performances at our local Operah House all in the next 3 months.

MrsPeelyWally · 03/01/2017 13:36

Opera House, sorry.

TinselTwins · 03/01/2017 16:14

Here's the thing about his perceived?potential "germ phobia":
Michael Jackson came across as someone who was germ phobic but didn't have an ounce of distain for his fans
Robbie Williams comes across as someone whose "germ phobia" (whether real or a joke) is just an extention of his general distain for his fans

And even if the anti bac thing is some sort of robbie in joke, it's a joke at the expense of his fans

which is why its so hard to understand why people are fans of him since he really doesn't think much of you at all!

I wasn't a MJ fan but I understand why people adored him: he loved/adored his fans back. Robbie doesn't.

Jjou · 03/01/2017 16:20

No, YANBU: he's repulsive. Have hated him ever since he was in TT. To be fair, hated them as well. I'm completely mystified how he's managed to continue a career in music for so long. His songs are crap, he can't sing and just looking at him makes my skin crawl. Odious little man, urgh.

schlong · 03/01/2017 17:05

Full of the milk of human kindness aren't you Jjou?

Chris Martin is way more insecure than RW as he knows he'll never be as good as Thom Yorke. Can't believe the uptight posters on here and the anti bac. It was comic theatre yes?

HappyLittleCloud · 03/01/2017 17:33

Since even Robbie's fans have offered up several possible explanations for what happened, I don't know how the rest of us are supposed to know whether to take it seriously or not?

TinselTwins · 03/01/2017 17:36

I don't know how the rest of us are supposed to know whether to take it seriously or not?

because it's the same outcome, he's a nasty little man
If its a joke, it's a joke at other people's expense

RubbishMantra · 03/01/2017 17:37

Ah, come on now. Thom doesn't belong on this thread! Tis like comparing Geordie Shores to Twin Peaks!

schlong · 03/01/2017 17:45

Thom is a genius. Chris Martin is a soulless wanna be Thom. RW is an amusing entertainer. End of. I'd never buy his music but he makes me laugh. Strange he's never appeared in a comedy.

RockyBird · 03/01/2017 17:48

The only thing I notice about Chris Martin is just how smiley and happy he looks since his conscious uncoupling Smile

Chippednailvarnishing · 03/01/2017 17:50

I think Robbie fits better as a soulless wanna be.

noeffingidea · 03/01/2017 18:00

schlong comic theatre my arse.
You sound like one of those Mariah or Britney stans that continually make excuses for their crapness.
