To severely dislike Robbie Williams?

GerardNoWay · 31/12/2016 23:44

OH has insisted on watching BBC in the run up to midnight.

I cannot stand Robbie Williams. I think he puts on a horrendously arrogant front, to the point of coming across as disingenuous. Deep down I think he's quite insecure.

There is just something about him that grates on me no end! I don't dislike his music, just find him irritating and fake.

RW was the only TT member not to opt into a tax avoidance scheme. Avoidance or evasion it's all the same immoral behaviour.

twinklefoot · 02/01/2017 13:06

How come Mumsnet HQ hasn't deleted this thread? I'm no Robbie fan but complete double standards! If it was a thread about Lorraine Kelly, Davina etc it would have gone poof a long time ago.

TheFairyCaravan · 02/01/2017 13:32

OH is from Stoke on Trent and his claim to fame is that Robbie nearly ran him down in the street whilst out on his roller blades. What a guy! hmm

How did he do that? He can't drive. Confused

maddiemookins16mum · 02/01/2017 13:45

I was a "bit old" for TT when they first hit the scene but often listen to their greatest hits in when in the car. Angels is one of my favourite songs too.
However, RW has not improved with age, he pulls a "certain face" that actually makes me cringe for him. My dear old mum hated him "get that pompous idiot off the TV" she'd say when he was ever on something and doing that "face" he makes ....you know the one.

I always thought little Mark Owen was the nicest (until he cheated on his wife - alledgedly).

This thread made me watch his NYE show on catch up and it's most entertaining. Did bitter Geri Halliwell start this thread? His anti baccing was hilarious! He's a bright working class lad with a witty line in self awareness. Guess it musta stuck in the craw of quite a few of his peers that he got the NYE gig.

Hilarious!

GerardNoWay · 02/01/2017 14:01

Fairy, sorry worded that poorly. RW was wearing roller blades, OH was on foot.

The duet with his dad was interesting and he seemed the bigger man even making his dad hug him at the end after Williams senior had made a hasty exit. The reason for RW's insecurities right there possibly. As a kid he must've been rejected by his dad big time. Don't get the New York New York song at all tho.

MrsPeelyWally · 02/01/2017 14:13

Schlong, Robbie and his father were estranged for a long time. It stemmed from his parents marriage breaking down and things he saw. I saw them on stage in Abu Dhabi a couple of years ago doing the same song and it all seemed very genuine.

MrsMeeseeks · 02/01/2017 14:23

I wouldn't despise RW half as much if he wasn't always gurning. His songs are annoying enough without him pulling that stupid face all the time. Ugh.

worcestersauce29 · 02/01/2017 16:15

He was so serious about the anti bac.......

not ;)

HappyLittleCloud · 02/01/2017 16:29

Looks like an exercise in damage control, but I did find that funny!

MrsPeelyWally · 02/01/2017 19:03

Was that his wife in the video, or his mother in law who appeared to be at the concert with her daughter on New Year's Eve.

worcestersauce29 · 02/01/2017 19:41

That's his MIL Gwen

DodoRevival · 02/01/2017 19:48

Yes that video definitely proves he wasn't serioud. Absolutely isn't damage control needed because so many people comment negatively on his using it after touching the plebian fans

Chippednailvarnishing · 02/01/2017 20:04

He's such a cheeky chappy, with a little twinkle in his self obsessed, vain and frankly unpleasant eyes.

TinselTwins · 02/01/2017 21:19

Jeez less of the hate and more love people! I'm neither a fan or a foe.. I can't ever understand the questioning "why do you love him" Eh why do you love the music or singers you listen to?!

I love songs/bands/playlists/albums/soundtracks

People aren't asking "why do you love Angels?" or "why do you love his albums", they're asking: why do you "love Robbie" when he's a tool

I love songs by artists that I don't like as individuals. Metalica have IMO made some of the best music in history. I do not love the Metalica musicians (big game hunters).

RoboticSealpup · 02/01/2017 21:22

I fucking hate him.

BalloonSlayer · 02/01/2017 21:48

I agree the anti bac thing comes across as an awfully rude thing to do BUT famous people must encounter a lot of nutters with revolting things on their hands on purpose - that would have to only happen once to me for me to be madly anti-baccing all the time!
As far as the thread title goes - never liked him, still don't. Singing Auld Lang Syne, a Scottish song, in an American accent when you are from Stoke on Fucking Trent? Give me strength.

HappyLittleCloud · 02/01/2017 22:14

I do understand him not wanting to pick up germs, but why not shake hands with the audience at the end, and then head straight for the dettol plunge pool shower backstage? Or just avoid touching the people who pay for his lifestyle audience? Or turn around and anti-bac discreetly?

Other acts are probably looking after their hygiene too, but doing it in a way that doesn't make it look so obviously contemptuous.

I wonder if he's so fastidious with the anti-bac every time he handles cash. I'm willing to bet there are far more germs on your average tenner than on the whole front row's hands.

noeffingidea · 02/01/2017 22:41

twinklefoot why should it be deleted? People are perfectly entitled to express their opinion about a celebrity, someone who has chosen to be a public figure.

twinklefoot · 03/01/2017 07:58

Because many a thread about women has gone poof for lesser offences!

twinklefoot · 03/01/2017 08:01

I haven't requested it be deleted because I enjoy these threads and am always disappointed when I see them go!

derxa · 03/01/2017 08:09

8yo DS: Why are those women in their bra and pants? I think it's inappropriate (tries out new word - gets it spot on).

Me: I don't know. Can you think of a reason?

13yo DD: Because he's a misogynist (not to be outdone by younger brother on the new word front)
Hmm

SoDownSoGone · 03/01/2017 08:48

Derxa spot on!! Such clever kids. I was fuming at the dancers (not them personally)
