Does anyone actually use body lotion?

I've got the usual Christmas smelly sets from in laws, grandparents and one from a friend. They're all lovely and I appreciate them as presents as I do use the contents....but never the body lotion.

This means I end up with drawers full of the things, because I have all good intentions of slathering myself with the stuff after every shower, but I can just never be bothered.

Am I the only one who wishes they'd just put two shower gels in there instead?

I'm with you OP. I moisturise my limbs about twice a year only and I just use hand cream or face moisturiser Grin
When i get body lotions i either give them to a charity shop (our local has a lovely big basket by the till - all toiletries £1 each), save them for a gift (i only do this if its a posh make), or give them to Foodbank - i think they usually have a toiletries / extras shelf which people can choose items from. I have a relative who works for a big pharma company and I often get freebies which I dont really need so donate them to Foodbank too (tooth brushes, soap etc).

I tend to use more in the summer when more of body is on show ( legs and arms).

Another pet hate of mine is those stupid gift sets ŵith tiny bottles of stuff I. - keep the £10 gift set and just buy me a full sized bubble bath/lotion/shower gel instead ! Pfft

Macarena1990 · 28/12/2016 17:38

I use it everyday so am always pleased to receive it!

1horatio · 28/12/2016 17:38

I do. Not everyday, but... maybe every scond or third day. It just depends on how my skin feels after the shower.

But I use a shower oil. I think it's less drying than a normal gel/soap.

RainyDayBear · 28/12/2016 17:43

Cocoa butter occasionally, which is all I like. Bloody hate those well-meaning toiletry sets! I had a private rant to DP about it after last Christmas when I was pregnant and everyone seemed to think I wanted to pamper myself with moisturiser, I'm sure they meant well but I was hormonally enraged!! I think he may have had a quiet word as I only got one this year...

NormaSmuff · 28/12/2016 17:50

yes, i do, not the strawberry though or the vanilla.
i didnt get any this christmas but that is unusual

NormaSmuff · 28/12/2016 17:51

agree about the tiny gift sets. annoying.
and i also use the body lotion more in the summer.

SuperflyTNT · 28/12/2016 17:52

Yep - not every day, as I tend to bath one day and wash the next, but every time I have a bath, unless I'm in a desperate hurry.

However, I really dislike fruit flavoured lotion.

I like Mint or citrus fruits. Or something unscented...

But I'm a bit particular about scents, tbh.

I use body lotion every day. I was given really expensive stuff by Elemis or Coudray but the cheap thin stuff is welcome. You just use more of it. I also go through small tubes of hand lotion like nobody's business because I wash my hands a lot at work.

I hate Dove for their poxy real women ad campaigns but have to admit their body lotions are good, reasonably-priced and nicely scented.

A long time ago I used to use talc to wriggle into rubber dresses but these days I reserve it for the summer if my feet are rubbing.

I struggle to use shower gel. I use solid soap in the shower so put it in a squirty bottle by the sink and use it as liquid soap. All gift sets are very welcome though.

steff13 · 28/12/2016 18:04

My kids and I have crusty alligator skin, so we use lotion multiple times a day. I recently discovered Charity Pot from Lush, and it has been great.

I'm black, my skin just sucks it up. When I first met my white dp, he was amazed.

Misssss My friend is of Sephardic descent. We went to Spain and I had Hawaiian Tropic aftersun like we all did in the 80s. She bought a cheap tub of thick body cream from the supermarket, slapped loads on and said: 'Watch this.' In 10 minutes it was gone.

Ragwort · 28/12/2016 18:16

Always use body lotion, can't imagine having a bath or shower and not using it - doesn't your skin feel really dry and uncomfortable without it? (I also use talc - that really is old fashioned Grin.

hanban89 · 28/12/2016 18:18

Not very often, unless it's a smell that I love. Just bought myself a set in the sales. Jimmy choo perfume and lotion set which I will definitely use!

WritingHome · 28/12/2016 18:30

Every day! I use aveeno as I find it the best for my skin.
I never get cosmetic sets though...
I once had a Jo Malone lotion and the smell was amazing!
I might treat myself to one next week with some money I got for christmas

Pheebs77 · 28/12/2016 18:32

Never. Give to the school fete

farfarawayfromhome · 28/12/2016 18:37

I can't believe so few people do! Every night after a shower. Literally takes me 50 seconds if that... I'm not painting the Sistine chapel! Makes me smell lovely and skin super soft.

Emmageddon · 28/12/2016 19:16

I keep a bottle of it on my desk at work and use it as handcream. My Christmas body lotion supplies generally last a year and it's a good way of using it up.

Emmageddon · 28/12/2016 19:19

Tiny gift sets of miniature bottles of shampoo, conditioner etc are brilliant for shoving in a ziplock bag when I'm travelling on a budget airline with no hand luggage. I travel quite a lot (due to sick elderly parents a in Europe, not because I have a glamorous job) and I love getting my mini gift sets.

skippy67 · 28/12/2016 19:55

Every day since I was a child. I'm black, it's what we do.

1horatio · 28/12/2016 20:04

skippy

Really? That's interesting. I didn't know that black people use more body lotion on average. May I ask why?

StrangeLookingParasite · 28/12/2016 20:13

Not optional here; the water's as hard as a rock, and I get papery and peel if I don't.

Freedom2016 · 28/12/2016 20:23

yes, me. everyday

ellalouise123 · 28/12/2016 20:27

I have psoriasis and really dry skin so I go through body lotion like nobodies business. I tend to use heavy duty moisturisers though but the perfumed stuff in gift sets still gets used otherwise my skin feels dry and tight and itchy all day.
