Does anyone actually use body lotion?

I've got the usual Christmas smelly sets from in laws, grandparents and one from a friend. They're all lovely and I appreciate them as presents as I do use the contents....but never the body lotion.

This means I end up with drawers full of the things, because I have all good intentions of slathering myself with the stuff after every shower, but I can just never be bothered.

Am I the only one who wishes they'd just put two shower gels in there instead?

Quite surprised at this. Doesn't everyone use body lotion? From reading this thread, clearly not.

I have used it every day since I was a girl. It wasn't so important when I was younger but now that I am in my late 40s, it is vital to stop my skin from getting dry. My skin is still soft and barely crepey. I don't know if it is related to long term body lotion use but I just see it as part of my personal care regime.

Will be quite happy to be gifted body lotions or creams. I have no use for body scrubs or bath oils.

CPtart · 26/12/2016 21:33

Never use it. Never ever. Don't like the feel of it on my skin, it's cold and I really can't be bothered.
Usually regift it.

SherlockPotter · 26/12/2016 21:35

Nope. I barely use the body butters either - unless it's from Soap & Glory or The Body Shop!

KickAssAngel · 26/12/2016 21:56

Yes, all the time. I have hand cream at various points around the house, and at work and in the car.

But I would find really smelly stuff a problem as I'd probably react to it, so still wouldn't want the stuff from a gift set.

teaandakitkat · 26/12/2016 22:04

Was thinking this exact thing today as I put my shower gel in the shower to use, then put the body lotion in the cupboard along with 3 others left over from my birthday in September. I'm going to give it all to a food bank after the holidays.

Abecedario · 26/12/2016 22:31

Occasionally, when I remember, or when I'm spending a bit more time on getting ready than my usual 10 minutes. I used a fancy pants expensive one yesterday that was a gift from the previous Christmas, first time I'd used it!

I do have a cupboard shelf full, this thread has reminded me to have a sort out/donate. Unfortunately quite a few have been opened as I'll open them with the best intentions of using them up, but then forget. But I'm sure there will be a good few unopened that someone could use.

I'm late 40s too and the skin on my body is soft and not crepey despite rarely using lotions and creams on it (I am diligent about SPF, but that's generally only needed on arms, shoulders and cleavage and only in the summer months). I use a lot of hand cream as I am prone to eczema and cracking there, and I moisturise my face, but the rest of my body is just fine without.

lizb30 · 26/12/2016 22:45

A friend of mine works in a care home. She uses body lotion and is quite fanatical about it. She has looked after many people who are 90+ in her 25 years of working there. Apparently it makes a huge difference to you as you age. She said those who have moisturised throughout their life have fabulous skin and it's less likely to break as their being moved around (if bed bound).

Chickydoo · 26/12/2016 22:52

Yes everyday for around 30 years.
I am now 50 with great skin. Best bit is my skin has great tone & elasticity & no cellulite at all. I reckon the massaging in of cream/lotion/oil has done wonders for my circulation. I use any brand, not fussy. Am sure the only difference between the cheap & expensive is the kind of fragrance that goes in to it, otherwise they are much the same.

Moanranger · 26/12/2016 22:55

After every bath/shower, me, & I'm with Bluntness use Laura Mercier -it's fab!

quencher · 26/12/2016 22:56

Black and mixed race skins are very dry, and need slathering preferably daily. The ones in the gift sets that people pass around are the wrong lotions for dark skin. I would only use it when desperate.

Queenie04 · 26/12/2016 23:02

I don't use body lotion but do use body oil daily, always have since I was a child

ChickenVindaloo2 · 26/12/2016 23:08

Body oil - in shower or after?

WhooooAmI24601 · 26/12/2016 23:10

I use body lotion daily but only a specific brand, not the stuff from Santa (unless Santa's been shopping in Selfridges). I have lovely skin all over, but that's because I'm sturdy and everyone knows sturdy girls age better.

mummyplus7 · 26/12/2016 23:12

My kids give me foot and leg rubs with it which are quite nice. Only when they want stuff or I've been crying though.

whatisforteamum · 26/12/2016 23:19

I told. My dc s bubble bath perfume or shower gels but I hate body lotion and never use it.My dh who has lived with me thirty hrs new hrs bought. Me nivea lotions in a gift set ha ha.

whatisforteamum · 26/12/2016 23:21

2rebecca · 26/12/2016 23:22

I use loads of it, and foot and hand cream. My skin is getting dryer as I get older. I didn't bother when younger.

witwootoodleoo · 26/12/2016 23:29

Don't get point of body lotion bit equally bemused by shower gel. I just use the spare suds from the shampoo (and shampoo 3 times so lots of them) on my body so gift sets utterly wasted on me.

RockyBird · 26/12/2016 23:32

I use lots of Body Lotions, creams and body butters. I love them.

I'll happily receive the drawer loads of MNers unwanted bottles of the stuff Grin

Yes always after shower especially on legs and elbows.

MrTCakes · 26/12/2016 23:41

I only use body lotion in the summer! I have received a few in sets for Christmas and don't want to waste them, so I might try using them in the shower instead of gel.

notrocketscience · 26/12/2016 23:41

No, hate all the chemicals. If I ever feel the need for a pamper I use coconut oil. Motto is never put anything on my skin that would be poisonous to eat. Yeah, I know, I'm a reincarnated hippy...

Kr1stina · 26/12/2016 23:42

I'm bemused by the posters who say they are sticky for three hours after applying lotion . I've just put some of my legs so I could Time how long it takes to soak in and feel completely smooth and it was 3 minutes.
