Does anyone actually use body lotion?

I've got the usual Christmas smelly sets from in laws, grandparents and one from a friend. They're all lovely and I appreciate them as presents as I do use the contents....but never the body lotion.

This means I end up with drawers full of the things, because I have all good intentions of slathering myself with the stuff after every shower, but I can just never be bothered.

Am I the only one who wishes they'd just put two shower gels in there instead?

I do use body moisturiser - not all over every day but usually a bit on any skin that might be exposed and any that feels dry.

Gift sets often have not-very-good moisturiser in them though.

Body shop honey shower gel and olive shower gels are both SLS-free (describe themselves as soap-free on the website, which amounts to the same thing).

Roussette · 28/12/2016 10:59

A good body lotion isn't greasy, it just sinks in. I'm not so keen on body butters unless I am on holiday in a hot country and need the extra moisturistion, but if you rub in a good body lotion, it's gone.

mummydawn07 · 28/12/2016 11:03

I luckily stopped receiving so many of those sets, but I do have a lot of body lotions, I too shower or bath and have every intention of moisturising afterwards, but 9 times out of 10 I can't be arsed.. I do prefer body butters though it's a bit more luxurious applying it and make me feel like I've done my skin some good, I still only moisturise about once every 2 weeks Blush though I would like to do it more often, problem is time and energy Grin

twinklefoot · 28/12/2016 11:09

Yes everyday but has to be a specific one as all others make my skin worse.

EggnoggAndMulledWine · 28/12/2016 11:12

I use it maybe at most five times a year. I do stick some on my knees and elbows before I fake tan but again that's a couple times a year.

It's nearly three years since we got married and the body lotion I bought to wear on the day with my perfume still isn't finished. Should likely bin it now but it cost a fortune.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/12/2016 11:13

I haven't for years although do on occasion on holiday after a shower and if I've been sun bathing (which I rarely do as my gingerness and the sun don't go together very well).
I also find that my Dove shower cream is rich enough to avoid using additional moisturisers).

mummydawn07 · 28/12/2016 11:27

I might add I have been dong it about 4 times a week after my nightly bath, but that's because I was given a beautiful gift set from the body shop with a body scrub and matching body butter, it's scent is british rose and it smells bloody gorgeous

weeblueberry · 28/12/2016 11:31

I use it. If it's got a good scent it can be more subtle and last longer than using perfume.

Misssss · 28/12/2016 11:50

Everyday, twice a day. I also seal it in with an oil at night. Agree that the ones in sets are rubbish. I usually use specialist Shea ones but Astral is pretty good in an emergency.

AddictedtoLovely · 28/12/2016 11:56

I only use it if I'm really dry or before fake tanning which is rare.

Hope you don't mind me asking...but does it not make your clothes or bedsheets really greasy?

BitchQueen90 · 28/12/2016 13:07

I use a body scrub in the shower then a body lotion when I've dried off. Can't imagine not using one, I love how it makes my skin feel!

SquidgeyMidgey · 28/12/2016 13:09

I use it after each shower or I get flaky legs and itchy arms (nice). I don't like the overly-perfumed stuff that comes in gift sets though and tend to keep it for my feet Blush

LizB62A · 28/12/2016 13:22

I have to use it twice a day but can only use unperfumed prescription body lotion so I can't offer to help use up the MN Body Lotion stockpile....

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 28/12/2016 13:29

As mentioned above black and mixed race skin moisturize after every bath/shower. With oil cocobutter vaseline baby oil. Once or twice a day without fail. Kids too!

BusterGonad · 28/12/2016 14:56

Like another poster has said Astral is good, I take Astral with me traveling as I can use it on my face too. I've never had any issues with body cream making my clothes greasy, if you're worried just run your towel over your body after moisturizing.

Misssss · 28/12/2016 16:24

@formerbabe Nope, I'm black, my skin just sucks it up. When I first met my white dp, he was amazed.

My dc are mixed race. I do put cream on them everyday otherwise they get dry skin. I honestly think I have sensory issues with it though as I need to wash the cream off my hands straightaway. My own skin is terribly dry though as I just can't bear the feel of body lotion on my skin.

littleshirleybeans · 28/12/2016 16:32

I prefer body cream to lotion which is not rich enough for me now.
I love the body shop butters and will slather them on after a shower at night, then old jammies on. Shower in the morning and my skin feels amazing.
Even better if you use their body scrub on DRY skin first, before you get in the shower.
I'm very considering the future of my skin so I pile on rich moisturisers onto my neck, décolletage and now I've added my shoulders to that regime.
I don't want crepey dry skin when I'm older (am 48) so I'm taking more care if it now.
I've always used body lotion TBH.
And moisturiser since I was 12.
I look a lot younger than some people my age Grin

littleshirleybeans · 28/12/2016 16:33

Concerned! Not considering!!! Stupid auto correct!
(Obviously, I have other concerns in life!)

fussychica · 28/12/2016 16:58

Every day! Send them to meSmile

foxessocks · 28/12/2016 17:01

I use one every day on my legs and arms as they smell lovely usually and my legs get quite dry sometimes. However I don't think I'd ever buy myself one so don't need it that much! And it takes me ages to get through them all whilst the shower gels get used up really quickly.

IHaventStoppedCravingYet · 28/12/2016 17:02

Yep every day. I like Dr Organic coconut or clarins body lotion best Smile

Squeakymoo · 28/12/2016 17:08

I use it in the shower, 1st shower gel to get clean, rinse then put body lotion on all over and rinse again but don't rub then pat dry or dry by wearing bath robe. I do this a couple of times a week.

Wishimaywishimight · 28/12/2016 17:14

Yep, cheap/supermarket stuff every day and fancy/ expensive stuff at the weekends, I love getting it as presents.
