Does anyone actually use body lotion?

I've got the usual Christmas smelly sets from in laws, grandparents and one from a friend. They're all lovely and I appreciate them as presents as I do use the contents....but never the body lotion.

This means I end up with drawers full of the things, because I have all good intentions of slathering myself with the stuff after every shower, but I can just never be bothered.

Am I the only one who wishes they'd just put two shower gels in there instead?

I have to use it 2/3 times a week otherwise I get dry skin, DH always gets me a couple of Body Shop body butters for Christmas or my birthday because he knows they're my favourite.

Cineraria · 25/12/2016 21:31

Gift set ones are never rich enough for my skin. I don't like to waste them though, and am always grateful for any kind of cream as a gift as keeping moisturised gets really expensive, so I pour them all into a big bottle together and top it up with olive oil and shake then together.

I always think the sets are really unbalanced as the shower gel and cream are the same size but you need a lot more cream than shower gel for a shower and moisturise.

I use it daily, on my nipples and elbows. That said, I buy a bottle of Molton Brown once a year, and that's all I need.

hollyisalovelyname · 25/12/2016 21:46

ChocolateSpiders
Elave do an SLS free shower gel.

misskelly · 25/12/2016 21:52

I never used to see the point of body lotion or think it did anything if I used it, but when I turned 40 I transformed into a crocodile and have to douse my self in the stuff constantly.

noeffingidea · 25/12/2016 21:53

I use body lotion, at least a couple of times a week. What I get over christmas usually lasts all year.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 25/12/2016 21:59

I hate it so use a shower oil (dove) instead.

Can't abide hanging about naked and wet & cold. Maybe you all have lovely warm bathrooms!

AgainPlease · 25/12/2016 22:01

I use it everyday, twice a day after my shower in the morning and evening.

Didn't know people only use it sparingly Confused

MargeryFenworthy · 25/12/2016 22:05

Yes, every day. It's one of my 'things' along with matching lingerie.

Wolpertinger · 25/12/2016 22:05

There are loads - Eucerin, Aveeno (tiny bit of SLS but I was OK with it), E45, Earth Friendly Baby, currently using Dr Saltz, Cath Kidston, Weleda, Green People, Neals Yard.

Waitrose is a good place to look as you have the baby options (usually have E45 Kids and Earth Friendly Baby which is lovely), usually a couple of green/organic brand options plus some more luxury brans that are going down that route. Dr Saltz was a recent discovery (I am not brand loyal and like to change a lot) - prob best value for money and good if you can't tolerate fragrance as well.

Otherwise pharmacies or local organic/green supplies shops.

Isyss · 25/12/2016 22:09

yes you have to, your skin looks better

MikeUniformMike · 26/12/2016 11:09

Thanks gamerchick, i'm not sure when I last had a proper haircut, but I do trim my hair myself. I found some conditioner in my smellies cupboard and if I can bear standing still for long enough might even put on some body lotion.

Redcrayons · 26/12/2016 11:18

Every day, always have. If I miss a day my legs go flaky and itchy.

However I don't really like receiving it as a gift, heavily perfumed stuff like Bayliss and Harding makes No difference.

BeverlyGoldberg · 26/12/2016 11:21

I lotion. Not every time I shower but maybe twice a week, I find my skin always feels lovely all day afterwards. My current favourite is Body Shop Atlas Rose.

sandgrown · 26/12/2016 11:22

Use body.lotion st least once a day and often request it as a present.

BusterGonad · 26/12/2016 11:26

I always use a body butter or thick lotion/cream. It has to be thick otherwise it does zilch!

MikeUniformMike · 26/12/2016 11:47

They vary. I have one body lotion that just sits on the surface doing nothing... well I did but the last bit of it has just been binned..

Thanks pinkswimgoggles. I'll persevere with it. I am also going to try and use up all the opened hand creams and body lotions. I'm not joking about the smellies cupboard. I have banned myself from buying make-up and toiletries for about 2 yrs with only a few minor lapses and I'm working my way through the stuff. I occasionally give stuff away but obvs need to pamper myself more. And donate the stuff I know I won't even want to try. Gift sets tend to contain one or two of those.

spidey66 · 26/12/2016 11:49

I do when I can be arsed. I've got dry skin which is improved by it, but sometimes it's too much hassle! I probably use it about 4 days a week.

Blacksox · 26/12/2016 11:50

Every single day since I was a teen.

It's as essential to me as brushing my teeth or putting on deodorant.

KurriKurri · 26/12/2016 11:51

I do now I am old - my skin goes all papery if I don't

Bejazzled · 26/12/2016 11:53

Every day for me too. My skin needs moisturising.

TheGardenOfEdenExists · 26/12/2016 12:37

Yep, every day and sometimes twice (basically, after every bath or shower so if I have 2 in a day...)

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 26/12/2016 20:09

I'm lathered in the stuff today to use it up.

Roussette · 26/12/2016 20:16

I use it every time I shower and bathe... can't imagine not and I slather myself in it. Have to say for an old bird I have good skin and I honestly think it's because I've always used body lotion as long as I can remember.

If I have a shower or bath and don't, I can literally feel my skin tightening, can't imagine not using it!

But I only like rich lotions, don't like those watery waste of time ones.

WendlaBergmann · 26/12/2016 20:16

I do daily because dry, itchy, sensitive skin otherwise. But never the type in gift sets, only Aveeno. A massive bottle of that would be awesome

Although a flat mate from years back gave me a bottle of Chance body lotion that I adored and used on my arms and chest until the last dregs were gone.
