Wearing mother-daughter Xmas dresses to the school disco

I have name changed for this because I think I'm about to get flamed! Xmas Blush

Bought mother daughter Xmas dresses to wear in the privacy of our home on Xmas day.

Dd who is six said she wanted to wear hers to the disco. I said fine. This morning she alluded to us matching and when I checked, she had assumed I would be wearing mine to! She now won't wear it if I don't (but isn't being stroppy, just happy to choose something else if I'm not game).

This makes me uncomfortable, but I'm working on getting out of my comfort zone to build confidence so I am potentially up to the challenge.

Reasons to refuse:

  • embarrass myself or her
  • draw too much attention to ourselves
  • look like a dick (see point one)

Reasons to agree:

  • she may very soon find this idea repulsive and I think I might want to have this experience
  • it's Christmas
  • confidence building/leaving comfort zone

WIBU to agree/WIBU to refuse?

Help me mumsnet! (And be kind!)

LOL - this will be a growing trend next year and you'll all be wondering why you didn't do it sooner !!

See eBay and Amazon for fully family dress and matching Xmas PJ's ----

Well done OP for being on trend (me and DD did this last week)) Grin

Wear it! I'd think it was really sweet if I saw you. People at the school will know what a lovely person you are anyway (I assume from your posts) and will think it's funny. Xx

I've not read the whole thread so apologies.

I have spent each day of December wearing either a Christmas t-shirt, Christmas jumper, Christmas hair bows (you get the point...)

I say, go for it. I struggle with confidence a lot as I am plus size and am constantly telling myself what I think other people are thinking of me. Even if they aren't thinking it, they're probably not actually. But that's where I am.
I decided that I love Christmas more than what people think of me and my size.

Please go for it, these are precious memories.

And my daughter has the same dress and is wearing it today!

Wear it! It's obviously a bit of fun - if you've bought matching ball gowns and weren't wearing them in an ironic way then I'd say "don't", but this is fine! Add a bit of tinsel and you'll be the belles of the ball Smile
