To ask you for ideas on how to tell my DH I'm pregnant on Christmas Day?

This is clearly not an AIBU but I'm shamelessly posting because of all the traffic and because I'm excited!!

I found out two days ago that I'm pregnant and I want to find a way to tell DH on Christmas Day.

I had thought about gift wrapping a pregnancy test but now that just seems boring?

Then I thought of having a customised bauble made with the words "I'm pregnant" engraved on it for him to unwrap.

Then I thought about wearing some kind of t-shirt/jumper with a message on it to indicate I'm pregnant and see how long it takes DH to notice it...

I just don't know.

Are there any creative people out there with some good suggestions? Or maybe someone who has done it themselves and would like to share?

I think it's really weird that you're faking a period to make him think you aren't pregnant.

I think cruel is a better word.

AndNothingElseMatters · 12/12/2016 14:18

Ashamed of how I told DH now.

Both times I came out of the bathroom waving a test with a very faint positive going "can you see that line? There is a line, isn't there??"

No sense of occasion at all.

Writerwannabe83 · 12/12/2016 14:19

Maybe I could gift wrap it as a joint present for DS and DH and tell them it's something they will both get years of fun out Grin

DH will be less suspect if I make out it's for both of them....

How old is your DS?

FrankAndBeans · 12/12/2016 14:25

The period thing is cruel, especially when TTC and if he's taking it particularly hard.

BertrandRussell · 12/12/2016 14:25

You are joking about your ds unwrapping a pregnancy test, aren't you?

PoldarksBreeches · 12/12/2016 14:29

Don't you think it's better to save telling your DS until the pregnancy is more advanced?
Seriously, your approach to this is as if it's all a jolly game and fun. This is your husband's potential baby and as you well know, things can go wrong so why expose your child to potential emotional pain?
Goodness me. Tell him on his own in whatever way you like, but don't involve your child in some silly tableau for the Pinterest photos.

starsinyourpies · 12/12/2016 14:36

What about a book of baby names?

loobyloo1234 · 12/12/2016 14:41

Congrats OP - lovely Xmas present for your DH and DS either way

Why don't you stay with the Xmas theme and still wrap it up for him? Say it's an early present though - and one he must open in front of you. Maybe make out like it's tickets to something happening pre Xmas ... so that he doesn't automatically click on Smile

Writerwannabe83 · 12/12/2016 14:45

frank - thankfully DH hasn't found this process hard, just me. He's very much of the attitude "if it happens it happens, if it doesn't then it doesn't."

He's much more practical about it all than me.

Fake period after trouble TTC is Hmm

londonrach · 12/12/2016 14:48

Congratulations. Not sure i could kerp this secret. Its something i felt dh needed to know asap. If you can or do keep it quiet a babygrow or booties or a baby book. Ask yourself one thing how would you feel if dh kept something this big secret from you. X

Writerwannabe83 · 12/12/2016 14:48

DS is 2.5 years old to whoever it was that asked (sorry, I can't remember). He would have no clue about what a pregnancy test is about hence why I'd have no problem with him seeing it Smile

Speaking from experience, I wouldn't want any 'permanent' things lying around such as an 'I'm pregnant' bauble just in case things don't work out in the pregnancy. Just tell him now and enjoy it together.

BertrandRussell · 12/12/2016 14:50

I must have misunderstood. I thought you were putting off telling him for s couple of weeks because he was so upset about your miscarriage.

londonrach · 12/12/2016 14:50

Love soupdragons idea on page 5

Writerwannabe83 · 12/12/2016 14:57

He was upset Bert - everyone was upset, what kind of arsehole would he be if he wasn't upset?

That doesn't mean that for the last 9 cycles he's been deeply affected by the fact we haven't conceived again.

To be honest, I think both of us, especially me, had kind of accepted DC2 wasn't ever going to happen hence why this has come as such a shock.

PeachBellini123 · 12/12/2016 15:07

Andnothingelsematters- same. I came out of the bathroom in utter shock and made my DH looks at the test and tell me a number of time that, yes, it was positive.

I think keeping it a secret for a while is bizarre but each to their own.

UnoriginalNN · 12/12/2016 15:07

This makes me feel shit about the fact that both times (minus mc) I've told DH over the phone because I am so fucking impatient Grin

Writerwannabe83 · 12/12/2016 15:10

This makes me feel shit about the fact that both times (minus mc) I've told DH over the phone because I am so fucking impatient grin

I did this the first time Grin

I garbled it out and there was a long pause, it seemed like a very long silence until he finally said in a very drawn out manner, "Fucking hell...."

eggyface · 12/12/2016 15:17

I'd do it tonight but maybe set something up like a card has come through the letterbox which is from the bump,or something. Agree with those who say don't get something permanent in case things don't work out. Everything crossed for you!

SoupDragon · 12/12/2016 15:42

I'm now trying to work out whether upon seeing two double lines he'll understand or whether I should get a digital one - seeing the word "Pregnant" may heighten the impact

Digital will be immediate. With anordinary one there might be a moment of confusion followed by realisation. Both equally valid options!

Goingtobeawesome · 12/12/2016 15:49

Practical jokes are one thing. Dashing his hopes are quite another.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 12/12/2016 15:55

*I think it is silly to keep that kind of news for 2 weeks. Unwrapping an engraved bauble? like, WTF?

Just tell him when you see him tonight*

Yeah, make it nice and boring. Obviously the OP knows her DP better than we do and it sounds like she thinks he'd like more of a statement.

OP, I honestly don't think I could keep it secret for that long but I like the babygro idea. What about little knitted boots with a note? I think it's a lovely idea to have something you'll actually use with the baby when he/she arrives Smile Congrats by the way Flowers

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 12/12/2016 15:56

Oh I am sorry! I haven't rtft, I thought it was only the one page Blush
