Where was Jesus from?
I know he was born in Bethlehem. Is that in Israel?
I also know he was reared in Nazareth wherever that is.
But where was Mary fleeing from?
Who told herod about her pregnancy
And dh wants to know what Jesus surname was. I have suggested Christ

Tequilamockinbird · 11/12/2016 17:59

I don't think Jesus had a surname, he was just Jesus. A bit like Pele but not as good a footballer

lasttimeround · 11/12/2016 17:59

Oh I better come up with a meaning for it sharpish

Whisky2014 · 11/12/2016 18:01

Btw there was probably more than 3 wise men.

myoriginal3 · 11/12/2016 18:01

I'm confused still lol. Perhaps I should watch my children's nativity more closely again.

I think it's fairly clear historically that Jesus of nazareth isn't a fiction

It really isnt

lasttimeround · 11/12/2016 18:07

The 4 gospels provide accounts of the life of Jesus. Of those the shortest is Matthew and the first 4 chapters tell of his lineage and birth and early years. About a page and a half.

Electrolens · 11/12/2016 18:08

Bethlehem isn't in Israel, it's in the West Bank - Palestine.

Nazareth is in Israel.

myoriginal3 · 11/12/2016 18:09

I don't have a bible to refer to

The gospels were written decades if not longer after jesus died, there is no roman record of him or his deeds.

lasttimeround · 11/12/2016 18:09

Actually historians think the fact that a person called jesus lived and preached at that time and in that region is quite clear. What is obviously a matter of huge disagreement is whether that person was god

myoriginal3 · 11/12/2016 18:10

Possibly a stupid question but do Nazareth and Bethlehem still exist?

OurBlanche · 11/12/2016 18:11

Oh, you mean nowadays Electrolens

Back then it was the city David was born in and crowned King of Israel!

FlappysMammyAndPopeInExile · 11/12/2016 18:11

That's right Pigs

"Surname" was not as we know it. He would have been Yeshua Bar Yosef (Jesus Josephson, to Anglicise it)

Again that's not true, any credible historian cannot find the evidence that these biblical historians claim there is. Other than the gospels there is no mention of Jesus in any historical text.

whyohwhy000 · 11/12/2016 18:13

Nazareth and Bethlehem still exist, yes.

Hellochicken · 11/12/2016 18:15

Yes you can go on holiday there!

The Jewish historian, Josephus, (a Romanised Jew) mentions Jesus by name, though briefly.

whyohwhy000 · 11/12/2016 18:15

The only pieces of evidence of Jesus we have are texts written decades after the fact by people who weren't there.

FlappysMammyAndPopeInExile · 11/12/2016 18:16

Josephus was contemporary with Jesus, I believe.

DierdrePewtey · 11/12/2016 18:17

He wasn't the messiah. He was a very naughty boy.

WankersHacksandThieves · 11/12/2016 18:17

So according to Roman records (which are usually pretty comprehensive I understand) Jesus was really a minor player at that time and not the big cheese he is made out to be.

I wonder who his marketing strategist was because they did a brilliant job of spreading that pish around the globe.

Nanny0gg · 11/12/2016 18:18

OP, have you come across Google?

It's very helpful...

JustAnotherPoster00 · 11/12/2016 18:18

Flavius Jophesus account of Jesus has already been disproved they believe that a christian historian called Eusebius added it later in the 4th century or something, if you read the piece in the 'Antiquities of the Jews' the added part reads out of context.
