To wonder why people dislike Tess Daly so much?

I don't particularly like her. She's a bit try hard. But she's a lot better than Bruce Forsyth who I had to fast forward through.

I really don't understand why some people have such an intense dislike of her.

Tess has been writing a weekly column for Red magazines website redonline since this series started. She does have a say in what she wears and she talked about having to run round to other parts of the studio between takes in very high heels.

Coupled with the other points made about presenting on this thread i dont think its a walk in the park either.

LyingWitch i agree.

flumpybear · 12/12/2016 21:54

Can you hear yourself Helena?! Runs around in high heels ..... seriously!! If only my job was that hard (though I'd take them off before running ... Hmm )
Perhaps my flippant comment yesterday was a bit of a low blow .... but I'm not alone in thinking she's not very good at her job

MaQueen · 12/12/2016 22:02

DH has met her, and had to work with her. Reports that she is very hard nosed and utterly charmless IRL. A group of young girls had waited over 2 hours to see her, and she just strode straight past them and refused to do autographs. Made it very clear that the 'event' was a real force-put. Very unprofessional.

Her DH is a twunt of the first order. Kept a member of DH's staff waiting over 2 hours, even though he knew she was heavily pregnant and it was past midnight.

MsJudgemental · 12/12/2016 22:23

I don't think I've ever seen so many deleted messages! I thought the pair of them seem pissed last weekend. Tess is wooden and a comedy Northener (and I'm a Manc) and Claudia's fringe and eyeliner annoy me.

MsJudgemental · 12/12/2016 22:34

Just read back through the thread.....that accent's from Stockport? Really?

PunkrockerGirl · 12/12/2016 22:44

she talked about having to run round to other parts of the studio between takes in very high heels, Grin Grin
I really struggle to see how someone this lacking in talent has 'made it' tbh.

Littlegreyauditor · 12/12/2016 22:52

Can I ask why my comment was deleted? I didn't attack anyone, I was defending Tess Daly against accusations of being boring and I was not mean or unpleasant about any poster, so how did I break talk guidelines? Hmm

HelenaDove · 12/12/2016 22:54

"a bit of a low blow"

It was inherently misogynistic. You wouldnt be describing a racist comment as "a bit of a low blow"

Yet its STILL ok to be discriminatory towards 50% of the population .

As someone who cant even walk in high heels let alone run in them (kitten heels are about my limit) yes i do wonder how other women balance in them. It was just a throwaway comment. Having to run around a studio and be in a certain position at a certain time (it is LIVE tv is something i would not be able to do.

HelenaDove · 12/12/2016 22:55

grey My comment got deleted to I suspect its because they were in reply to some of the closet misogynists on this thread.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/12/2016 23:00

Love the idea that if you don't like a particular woman because you consider them shit at their job/annoying/etc, you are accused of being misogynistic Grin

I would say the same about Michael McIntyre, for example.

It's not her sex people object to -but the idea that a woman can be irritating is obviously not one that some posters can get their heads round Grin

HelenaDove · 12/12/2016 23:16

Livia dont gaslight. You know perfectly well the comments i was referring to. People have a right to say shes not good at her job. Thats an opinion and people are entitled to their opinion. What was misogynistic was casting aspersions on how she got the job.

A man would be a lot less likely to be accused of the same!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/12/2016 23:24

Don't gaslight? Wow. Here is a definition of the word:

'Gaslighting or gas-lighting is a form of psychological abuse in which a victim is manipulated into doubting their own memory, perception, and sanity.[1][2] Instances may range from the denial by an abuser that previous abusive incidents ever occurred up to the staging of bizarre events by the abuser with the intention of disorienting the victim. '

Little bit of an over exaggeration there....

HelenaDove · 12/12/2016 23:29

It was pretty close to gaslighting Livia.

FlyingElbows · 12/12/2016 23:29

Imo the problem is that tge Tess Daley "brand" image is just very very ITV. I'm not going to comment on her as a person (and some of what's written here is just cruel) but as an image she would slot right in with the fake hair, fake teeth, fake smile that is the norm in ITV light entertainment presenters. The BBC is bursting at the seams with oh so terribly well educated and clever people. It offers more than just tits and teeth and, to me, that's why "Tessbot" is odd. Saturday night BBC is bloody awful just now. Low rent variety just doesn't seem to sit very well on the beeb any more.

HelenaDove · 12/12/2016 23:30

Or trying to rewrite history ( a lot easier when comments have been deleted)

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/12/2016 23:33

So it was gaslighting and now it's close to gaslighting?

Could you point me to where I am being abusive and manipulative please?

Implying that she didn't get the job through fair means (which was said by other posters, not me) isn't pleasant but it is a dig at her, not at women in general.

sterlingcooper · 13/12/2016 07:04

The fact that she can run around in heels has no bearing on the reason why most people who dislike her presenting seem to do so: her presenting style is too artificial/fake. She is excellent at holding the show together and reading her autocues with a huge smile on her face. And running around in heels. But I'd exchange the heels and constant smile for some off the cuff humour now and again. There is nothing misogynistic about that.

snapcrap · 13/12/2016 07:33

It's not misogynistic to say you find a TV presenter lacking in talent - it is misogynistic to call this thread 'bitchy' however!

Just because we are women commenting on a woman we are 'bitchy'?

Oh the irony.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/12/2016 09:24

Spiteful and catty any better for you?

I'd like to think that women don't get such enjoyment from running other women down (in a way that they will never do to men) but they do. This thread is a perfect example of that, however much it's dressed up.

The comments about her skill as a presenter are just opinion and that's fair enough whether somebody agrees with it or not - but there have been vile comments on this thread judging her because her husband was cheating on her. That she got her job by sleeping around with people in power. What sort of excuse for a woman says these kind of things?

HelenaDove's posts excepted because she just got caught up in quoting from them.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/12/2016 09:25

I'll just adjust that post - "SOME women get enjoyment". Patently not all women do.

SapphireStrange · 13/12/2016 10:45

Mel and Sue did prime time - and they were hilarious if you like Carry-On style humour. However for anyone with more than three brain cells, not so much

Mel and Sue have LOADS of brain cells. Hmm They're hilarious BECAUSE they're clever and witty. I love them both. I'll miss them now the Bake Off's gone. Sad

Tess was born in Stockport but grew up in Derbyshire. She has a Derbyshire accent.

BertrandRussell · 13/12/2016 10:48

Oh yeah, Mel and Sue.

Isn't it shocking what a barrier to a career in light entertainment an Oxbridge education can be...........Grin

I'd like to think that women don't get such enjoyment from running other women down (in a way that they will never do to men) but they do.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Taking Bake Off as an example, Paul Hollywood is by far the least popular presenter on that show (the other three being women) and comes in for regular stick on bake off threads regarding his appearance and personal life.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 13/12/2016 11:53

I know that Mel and Sue are intelligent - ot just makes me sad that they have to spend their airtime making innuendo and sniggering like schoolgirls
