To wonder why people dislike Tess Daly so much?

I don't particularly like her. She's a bit try hard. But she's a lot better than Bruce Forsyth who I had to fast forward through.

I really don't understand why some people have such an intense dislike of her.

Claudia is becoming more vacuous by the week, Tess more wooden (and I was delighted when Bruce left so was hoping for better things).

As for Mel and Sue mentioned upthread, they are even worse. They were funny once, but have become less and less so, with their innuendo and silly voices.

Sadly I can only think of one mainstream female presenter who is intelligent and funny and natural - Victoria Coren Mitchell. She doesn't have to be so pathetically desperate for people to find her funny or cute!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/12/2016 13:36

And actually very few male presenters too - I like Graham Norton, Rhod Gilbert and that's about it

ElspethFlashman · 12/12/2016 13:37

Quite like Sandi Toksvig. She is still herself.

MadameDePomPom · 12/12/2016 13:38

Presenters in general are quite tedious. They’re just an irritant until the actual content starts.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/12/2016 13:51

I used to like Sandi Toksvig too but she seems to have got a lot less funny

Peachesandcream15 · 12/12/2016 13:59

For the sake of equality, maybe I should start a thread on precisely why I can't abide Simon cowell or Louis Walsh on my TV on a Saturday night. How they have got away with trotting out the same tired catch phrases for the last 10 years+ is beyond me.

Sandi Toksvig's doing a brilliant job on QI. Stephen Fry was really getting too mannered.

derxa · 12/12/2016 14:25

Graham Norton and Richard Arnold are just about the only tolerable male presenters on TV It's all personal taste though. One of these is funny the other makes me want to punch the wall.

KathyBeale · 12/12/2016 14:44

I can't abide Tess on Strictly. Like others have said, she's rubbish when anyone talks too long, if they go 'off-script', I hate how she grabs the dancers, and how she always says "they're on their feet in the studio" and how she patronises everyone. Remember when Jo Wood was on and she really talked down to her? I kept thinking, god the stories Jo Wood could tell, Tess and you're treating her like she's a primary school child!

She's much better now she's doing the straight bit - Bruce was absolutely dreadful and she was so uncomfortable upstairs - but still not great. I think Strictly needs a bit of a revamp actually and they should get rid of her and replace her with Zoe, who I love.

I do, however, think Tess is stunningly, amazingly beautiful. And I quite like her accent because she talks like my friend. And I'm not remotely interested in her marriage. I'm not jealous of her. I just think she's rubbish.

ElspethFlashman · 12/12/2016 14:49

She looked admittedly AMAZING last night in that red dress. Her hair was swooooon.

SapphireStrange · 12/12/2016 14:53

I doubt she gets to choose her clothes

I get the impression she and Claudia DO. I read an interview with Claudia where she talked about her and Tess's different styles. I'm sure they have at least a big say in it.

awaynboilyurheid · 12/12/2016 14:55

She deserves a break after Bruce she did looked strained at times he should have left years before. I think her and Claudia do a great job and its getting funnier I like the running gags now of Claudia holding the rope and last nights joke when they showed Claudia still on the mat was funny.
Yes agree up thread lets all look at Lois Walsh and Simon Cowells TV "skills".

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 12/12/2016 15:06

Here you go.
Louis Walsh.

Perhaps OP but I bet there wouldn't be much comment about their appearance, what they wear and how they conduct their personal relationships, would there? Because they are not women and therefore not accountable for any of that.

It's NOT equal.

RestlessTraveller · 12/12/2016 15:26

What lying said. In buckets, huge 1000000 gallon buckets.

Joinourclub · 12/12/2016 15:46

I don't mind her. She's just a bit of glamour to read the autocue and that's all that is needed, the show isn't about the presenter. I used to hate Bruce's comedy bits. I like Zoe on it takes two, but I think she would be a bit 'me! Me! Me!' If she did the main show.

DeepanKrispanEven · 12/12/2016 15:50

I always think the Strictly audience should be firmly told to be very selective about who they give standing ovations to: it's ridiculous that they're leaping to their feet after virtually every dance. In fact, if I were producer I'd be putting glue on the chairs Grin

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 12/12/2016 15:51

I don't have a strong opinion of her, other than I wish she'd have confidence in showing her true personality, rather than trying to be the Bruce replacement. All that "My darling" ing seems very forced, and she has patronised the younger women celebs.

But she does keep the show moving along and seems professional and pleasant. A lot of criticism is directed at her because she's female.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 12/12/2016 16:06

Tess roared "THEY'RE BOTH CRYING - LOOOOK!"

For some reason that made me really giggle Grin

SapphireStrange · 12/12/2016 16:22

All that "My darling" ing seems very forced, and she has patronised the younger women celebs.

Agree. She talks to people as if they were three; that is, when she's not fake-luvvying them.

I think Zoe did very well when she did the main show last year in Claudia's absence. I know she did Claudia's role though, not Tess's. But I suspect she'd be better than Tess at the 'anchor' role.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/12/2016 16:25

I think Claudia has been allowed to build her part a little - she just isn't funny any more, her 'comedy' bits are really cringe worthy

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/12/2016 16:28

And actually this is probably one of the first times you have two women presenting a prime time slot and you have the wooden one and the one who likes to show how 'kooky' she is... hardly likely to be taken seriously are they!

Rainbowdash88 · 12/12/2016 16:33

Tess as a presenter doesn't bother me as such, Claudia on the other hand makes me want to launch the remote at the tv every time she comes on Angry.
I don't see the appeal in her at all, her jokes and the way she acts irritate me as much as Bruno's up & down from his chair when he's critiquing the celebs. Just sit the fuck down FFS.
Shame as I quite like strictly it's just the judges/presenters who I think are annoying.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/12/2016 16:33

And of course Mel and Sue did prime time - and they were hilarious if you like Carry-On style humour. However for anyone with more than three brain cells, not so much Grin

I wish to clarify that my comment was deleted because it was in reply to someone who made a potentially libellous comment. Not because i said anything nasty on here............because i didnt.
