To be this annoyed over lipstick?

I am fully prepared to be told IABU and ridiculous but I feel really upset!

I am going out tonight and dp was in town. I can't find my favourite red lipstick so I texted dp to pick me up a new one while he was out. I told him the brand I like and said to get any red one. I often wear red lipstick.

He's come back with a pale pink one. I never wear pale pink lipstick. I asked why even though I'd asked for red and he just shrugged and said he thought I'd like it.

I feel really pissed off! Why did he not just get a red one? I couldn't have been clearer.. I feel like he never listens to me.

I would love to have the balls to wear red lipstick.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/12/2016 21:32

I've got a hairy lip. Is that a thing?

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/12/2016 21:52

My father ran an highly successful auto dealership, but would freeze if sent for "something for ladies". Did he regularly sell people pink cars and advertise them as 'Italian racing red'? Because that's how stupid this is.

5OBalesofHay · 09/12/2016 22:01

Just get your own lipstick. And if it matters that much don't lose it.

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 09/12/2016 22:02

hairy. Hope you don't mind but I just gave my iPad screen a little kiss on your pic. I tried to refrain, but couldn't help myself.

mother. Grin. I've got just under two inches on you. A 5'7" friend once advised me to wear vertical stripes to give me some 'height'.

Er......

Vertical stripes?

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 09/12/2016 22:06

Oh and I asked dh what he'd do and he just Hmmd and said "like you haven't got about 50 red lipsticks"

motherinferior · 09/12/2016 22:10

We are clearly a coven of short red lipstick-wearers ( another five footer here).

maddiemookins16mum · 09/12/2016 22:12

Yabu. That is all.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 09/12/2016 22:23

Back up the bus...

Forget about lipstick...

Jess. You're in your 40's!? Jess of the twatty ex and gorgeous little DD. Getting her life on track...

Sugarlightly · 09/12/2016 22:26

Maybe he did something I have done before - looked at the tester colour, picked up the one above it and only realised when I got home that it was the wrong one?

AnnieAnoniMouse · 09/12/2016 22:27

I just asked the lurking male...he said 'Lipstick? Why the hell would I be buying you lipstick? I think Adam was a boy last time you wore lipstick' 😂 'But if you asked for red, I'd buy red..what twat would buy pink if asked for red?'

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 09/12/2016 22:34

annie. Ssshhhh...... 39 plus V.A.T is what I meant to say....

(feeling a million times better, though, thank you)

Should I change my name to motherjinglejess, do you think? Feeling like the odd one out, especially as I tower over you and motherfuckingchainsaw.

auldfuckingspinster · 09/12/2016 22:44

I'm 5ft 8 and a red lippy wearer.

scottishdiem · 10/12/2016 11:21

Question - did he know it was pink? Did it have pink in the name? At what point, for him, does red become pink?

motherinferior · 10/12/2016 12:12

But she says pale pink. We're not talking crimson v scarlet here.

BusterGonad · 10/12/2016 12:35

Was it a Rimmel lipstick by any chance that comes in a red tube? If I asked my husband to pick me up a lipstick I'd say the brand and the exact shade! I wouldn't ask him to just pick any red as not all reds are the same anyway. I would specifically say if you can't find it ask a sales assistant! I love red lipstick but pink is getting a bad rap as I adore pink too.

mscongeniality · 10/12/2016 14:03

YANBU! My DH would have gotten the one I asked and probably another one as well if he thought I'd like it. He wouldn't disregard what I wanted!

hazell42 · 10/12/2016 15:58

He's a man. Probably couldn't tell the difference. I share an office with two men. I brought in my daughter's neon pink laptop to work. One of them thought it was purple, the other said orange (orange, ffs!)
If you think he has ever noticed the colour of your lipstick, you are barmy. Ten to one he walked in to Boots and grabbed the first one he saw

Tinkah · 10/12/2016 16:01

My DH would have been completely bamboozled by this request I wouldn't be surprised I I ended up with pale pink or a mascara or something.

UnderbeneathsiesTheMistletoe · 10/12/2016 16:09

The thing is, we don't know why her DH got her a pink one saying while shrugging," I thought you'd like it." according to the OP.

Personally, I think a red lip everyday is very ott, and like red nails, rather Christmassy, but not for everyday. Dark lippy can make the lips look thin, pursed and disapproving, if you don't have the lips for it. Have a look at style and Beauty to see what the fashionistas say about it... especially lip fillers. This isn't my original observation.
I've also observed that sometimes people forget to update their style as they shock horror... age..... look at Barbara Cartland .. if you dare! I'm sure she was a lovely lady, but caught in a time warp.

Men are on average more visual than women, and maybe he fancies her in pink, not red anymore. It's possible. We don't know.
He is allowed to have a preference, as are we all.

Something rather unpalatable to think about maybe, but to be honest I wouldn't fancy my DH is he was fat. or sported a red lip I know I'm not alone in that either, so no need to go on about me being judgemental... we all are judgemental, it's human nature.... it is how we choose our mates and friends.

To say otherwise doesn't make any sense at all in the light of our biology or evolution by natural selection. Perhaps nothing to do with the OP, but maybe something to think about.

Mynestisfullofempty · 10/12/2016 16:20

Tinkah "My DH would have been completely bamboozled by this request I wouldn't be surprised I I ended up with pale pink or a mascara or something."

Why? Surely he knows what lipstick is and he knows what red is. It's straightforward isn't it?

motherinferior · 10/12/2016 17:50

In other words: ditch the red lipstick or you will be left a sad and lonely divorcee while your former husband disports himself among a bevy of luscious-lipped young lovelies?

I'll take my chances, thanks.Smile
