To be this annoyed over lipstick?

Fouristhebestnumber · 09/12/2016 14:41

I am fully prepared to be told IABU and ridiculous but I feel really upset!

I am going out tonight and dp was in town. I can't find my favourite red lipstick so I texted dp to pick me up a new one while he was out. I told him the brand I like and said to get any red one. I often wear red lipstick.

He's come back with a pale pink one. I never wear pale pink lipstick. I asked why even though I'd asked for red and he just shrugged and said he thought I'd like it.

I feel really pissed off! Why did he not just get a red one? I couldn't have been clearer.. I feel like he never listens to me.

Wow under just wow!

Trills · 10/12/2016 17:56

'But if you asked for red, I'd buy red..what twat would buy pink if asked for red?'

Exactly.

motherinferior · 10/12/2016 18:00

I have changed my style as I got older. Got my nose pierced just this year.Grin

nichito · 10/12/2016 18:00

So depressing how many women are apparently perfectly content to accept or rationalise strategic incompetence from men.

This is a task that my 10-year-old nephew with learning difficulties would find unproblematic.

Glitterspy · 10/12/2016 18:10

This thread is brilliant. It's covered natural selection, human biology, the colour spectrum, hairiness (or otherwise) of various body parts, strategic incompetence of men, sexism of strategic incompetence of men, screen kissing, username considerations, lip vs lips (the debate rages on), Transvision Vamp - whatever next, the fiscal predictions of Theresa May's Brexit in 10 handy lip shades?!

I know nobody requested a summary. But I felt one had to be made at this juncture.

Trills · 10/12/2016 18:15

he just shrugged and said he thought I'd like it

This would be an appropriate way to behave if he had bought you the red you requested and also a pink.

If he would like you to wear pink, buying red and also pink might encourage you to try it.

Buying only the pink will make you think of is as "that bastard pink when I wanted red" and will not encourage you to try it.

BusterGonad · 10/12/2016 18:37

I would be very disappointed myself but I would half expect the wrong shade though. It's a simple task but for some reason one that went hideously wrong. It seems careless and thoughtless but I doubt he really meant to upset you.

auldfuckingspinster · 10/12/2016 18:42

I'll carry on wearing red thanks, get asked why I'm not wearing red if I try other colours and my lips are still nice and full, not at all mean and pursed.

Ethylred · 10/12/2016 19:43

The cleverest woman I know is a doctor. She wears red lipstick. If someone got her pink lipstick she would remove both their kidneys.

Fouristhebestnumber · 10/12/2016 20:21

Wow this really started something! Grin he's great most of the time honestly.. I think perhaps he doesn't love the red lippy though..

Next you're out and he asks for a drink or something specific get him the wrong one that he'd hate. That's what I'd do. Taste of his own medicine. Then I'd tell him "you have a problem with pink and red and I have a problem with coke and guiness". Petty but possibly effective.

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 10/12/2016 20:49

glitter. Grin. That was fantastic! I hereby nominate you to be official Thread Summarizer (I'm not entirely sure I haven't made that up, so you'd better add 'possible invention of new words' just to be on the safe side)

LexieSinclair · 10/12/2016 21:00

I never wear red lipstick but I want to now after reading this thread. Can anyone recommend a good shade that won't make my teeth look yellow? I am pale and blonde.
I won't be sending my DH out to buy it.

UnbornMortificado · 10/12/2016 21:07

I like Ruby Woo I'm tanned but I've heard it suits most skin types. DSis is pale and blonde and she also wears it.

If you have Facebook "mrs gloss and the goss" is an amazing makeup group.

LexieSinclair · 10/12/2016 21:14

Ooh thanks Unborn I'll have a look. 😊

Trills · 10/12/2016 21:43

Ruby Woo is allegedly the magic red that suits everyone, I have heard that too

SaltyBitch · 10/12/2016 21:57

I just got this in Mulling Spices. Utterly fantastic, very very flattering. My fave red ever.

WhooooAmI24601 · 10/12/2016 22:00

Just asked DH what he'd do if I texted him to buy red lippy and he said "I'd go to the Chanel counter in Lewis', show them your picture so they know your colouring and tell them they must provide a perfect red lippy". That's why I married him.

Lexie, Mac's reds are very good but the matte ones can be quite drying. And Charlotte Tilbury's reds are fabulous for a first-timer.

Lottapianos · 10/12/2016 22:13

I cannot believe the sniffiness about red lipstick on here! Utterly daft to say that red lipstick is 'ageing' - red lipstick comes in many different colours and tones and textures, and not everyone is desperate to look 25 all the time

auldfuckingspinster · 10/12/2016 23:39

As mentioned earlier Chanel Rouge Coco in Gabrielle is great. Revlon's reds are the best budget option along with Kate Moss Rimmel lipstick in shade 1. My very favourite is Guerlain Rouge G in Garconne which is very pricy indeed.

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 10/12/2016 23:43

I'm sure I once read that there is something called the Lipstick Index (might not be that exact phrase), which refers to the increase in lipstick sales during an economic downturn or recession. Something to do with women buying lipsticks instead of shoes or bags, because they are still luxury items but obviously a lot cheaper. I'll have to Google it!

UnderbeneathsiesTheMistletoe · 11/12/2016 01:54

I knew he didn't like the red OP.

It's not rocket science to figure it out.

I'm not saying that we should simper and dress and speak to please men, just that it works both ways.

If your DH wore terrible clothes, had an awful haircut, dubious hygiene, wore a beard (if you hated it) and became really thin or fat, would you buy him new clothes, even though he said he was ok in the anorak; would you buy him some grooming products and suggest changes in his exercise routine and diet.
I know I would.

Of course we have a right to wear whatever we like, and have a right to wear make up and have a right to free speech, and to vote (hurray) but sometimes our actions have consequences we didn't truly anticipate or welcome.

Marriage is give and take, not just asserting your rights to wear whatever you like and shouting "controlling behaviour" when your spouse subtly suggests you do something a bit different. It's the same with any kind of teamwork.

So, it looks like the OP's DH is just not into the red lippy 24/7.

Personally if I'm pushing the boat out and wearing a red lip, I prefer a Chanel red to mac. Mac is too drying. Ruby woo is a neutral red, not too orange or too blue/cerise, but I think it suits people with brown / green eyes better.
You do need a cooler red if you have cool colouring and if your teeth aren't super white, otherwise they look very yellow.... and your lips look a bit stuck on, which is ok if you like that kind of thing.
It's not a look I'd go for, IMVHO it's a bit Ventriloquist dummy.

Marilyn Manson looks ok with his dark red lippy, but to me that's a stage make up look, with the gothic no blush look, besides he has the full lips to carry it off.

Personally, I think a lot of the red lippy wearers I see look a bit like Dame Edna with a bad headache /painful shoes towards the end of the day.... sort of tired, grumpy and washed out. These are just my humble opinions based on my own eagle eyed observations, naturally.

I'm sure everyone here who 'rocks' a red lip everyday looks like a movie star.
No need for any "clever doctors" to take anyone's kidneys out Grin

iminshock · 11/12/2016 02:01

I suspect OW
Call a solicitor for a free half hour
Have some hot sweet tea and some dry toast.

BusterGonad · 11/12/2016 03:10

Red lipsticks with blue undertones (Ruby Woo) make your teeth look white, red lipsticks with a orange undertone make your teeth look yellow. There is a shade of red to suit everyone. I don't think red looks harsh or aging. That's a load of crap in my opinion. Choose the right red for you and you will look great. If you have thin lips pop a bit of gloss on too or a paler red in the middle of the bottom lip, big lips or normal lips can carry off Matt, glossy or a cream lipstick. Wear it with confidence and you will look great. It's all in the shade and the finish.

Nutfreepeanutter · 11/12/2016 04:22

I'd be colouring him in in his sleep Grin

My oh's colour blind but if I sent him for a specific coloured something that you could tell by the label (lemon washing liquids easy but hair dye n make up are harder) he'd go n get a staff member to help pick out something I'd described or even remotely similar.
And if you want to wear red, blue or green lippy do it! Everything's ageing or some nonsense.
