To be this annoyed over lipstick?

I am fully prepared to be told IABU and ridiculous but I feel really upset!

I am going out tonight and dp was in town. I can't find my favourite red lipstick so I texted dp to pick me up a new one while he was out. I told him the brand I like and said to get any red one. I often wear red lipstick.

He's come back with a pale pink one. I never wear pale pink lipstick. I asked why even though I'd asked for red and he just shrugged and said he thought I'd like it.

I feel really pissed off! Why did he not just get a red one? I couldn't have been clearer.. I feel like he never listens to me.

Not a man thing at all! Just asked my husband what he would do. He said he would always get what I had asked for and if they didn't have my exact shade he would ask the assistant for the closest alternative.

littlesallyracket · 09/12/2016 18:50

In my very humble opinion, a red lip really gets old day after day, and can look very forced if the lips aren't really up to it.

  1. Absolute bollocks.
  2. LOL at 'very humble'.
littlesallyracket · 09/12/2016 18:54

grannycake Red lipstick looks amazing with beautiful grey hair! Keep wearing it and don't listen to all the joyless, insecure people who think you have to stop wearing anything striking, fun or bright when you're older. Truly stylish people ignore those miserable 'rules'. ;)

Thanks littlesal. I love clothes and fashion and all the "ooh you can't wear whatever over 40/50" annoys me. I didn't used to use much lipstick but wore full eye make up but the white hair needs lipstick. I now rarely wear eye make up but always bright lips

FlappysMammyAndPopeInExile · 09/12/2016 19:07

I like your suggestion Pictish That would teach the beggar! Grin

I'm 41 and wear nothing but red lipstick. Rouge Coco Gabrielle is lovely, one of my favourites out of my many reds. Op what is the shade you wanted?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/12/2016 19:23

Ok Writers, I just felt like hammering the Fucking point home after PP's comments.

Glad you get it though.

I was actually thinking whilst in the kitchen earlier after posting, women's bodies are problematic things, what with everyone thinking they own them and having opinions on what they put on their lips and the age-appropriate nature of such adornment.

And women being happy with their looks and bodies.

The tricksy cunts.

Ericaequites · 09/12/2016 19:42

Straight men don't know these things. My father ran an highly successful auto dealership, but would freeze if sent for "something for ladies". Heck, my brother and teenage cousins wouldn't even try.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/12/2016 19:43

Just going to leave this here for all the elderly-woman red-lip haters.

Enjoy!

Oooooh you saucy mare! Wink

shggg245 · 09/12/2016 20:17

My totally colour blind dh once liberally doused his bald head in fake tan with added golden shimmer (glitter) which I'd discarded as it was way too bling even for my legs.

He called me from work after a few hours later when his female colleagues noticed his shimmering head. I def wouldn't trust him to buy lipstick.

haveacupoftea · 09/12/2016 20:58

This thread is hilarious Grin

motherinferior · 09/12/2016 21:05

That is a GOOD shade of lippie. I like a slightly orange base.

Don't worry, I don't really think I'm a crone. Actually I too think I look pretty good. I pierced my nose earlier this year too.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/12/2016 21:15

Ta Ma.

I was thinking of re-piercing my nose.

Or summat.

SeenYourArse · 09/12/2016 21:19

I am 20 something and wear a MAC bright red lipstick when I go on a night out hardly ageing on me I'm sure. Just asked my husband he says he loves when I wear it as it looks sexy and reminds him of good times and drunken nights out we've had over the years. The memories of which are v important seeing as we've a 6 month old baby so that's all they are these days, distant ones at that!

drinkingchanelno5 · 09/12/2016 21:22

Was it in a red tube? Maybe he thought it was red and didn't like to admit the mistake.

JustSpeakSense · 09/12/2016 21:23

LTB

UnbornMortificado · 09/12/2016 21:23

What is this utter shite about red lips?

I wear mac velvet teddy by day and Ruby woo by night.

To be fair DH knows fuck all about my makeup but knows what the colour red is.

SaltySalt · 09/12/2016 21:23

a red lip, a nude lip sounds daft we have two lips for a start!

PerpendicularVincent · 09/12/2016 21:25

hollin, my dad did the same thing! He was going on holiday and asked what I wanted from the duty free. Rather optimistically I asked for a matte lipstick, and he bought me two mac ones that I love - one red, one viva glam. He's 70 Smile

UnbornMortificado · 09/12/2016 21:26

Ilike what brand/shade is that?

It looks fab though it could just be your lips I'm jealous.

3luckystars · 09/12/2016 21:26

Lots of people dont know the difference between red and pink.

MotherFuckingChainsaw · 09/12/2016 21:27

its very aging

I am old. I am entirely happy to look old. Some of DGAF.

I also expect that some outfits make me look short. I am 5 foot exactly . I am short.
