Am I right to feel a bit miffed?

First time posting for a long while so please be gentle!

I don't know if I'm just being a bit miserable or what but today I promised to look after a friend's three dogs in her home while she attends an appointment in a different city.

I am here from 9-4 and I have to go to work at 5pm (work a few shifts at my local shop)

Friend offered to pay me and said she would leave the money on the table, I arrive and find a note saying sorry can't pay you but here's your bus fare home (£4)

Am I right to feel a bit used as I have given up an entire day, for free?

I still have to work 5-10pm and again in the morning 7-1, so there will be no time to do anything else or see my daughter ( she's grown up, but we are very close)

Maybe I'm just a miserable cow and I'm all for helping a friend, but I always do the helping!

Does she have form for this?

Please send a reply.

Dagnabit · 02/12/2016 11:54

Just read about the bread....oh my! Text to say that you can't stay as you have no food and can't eat dry bread due to a sensitive gag reflex and you're not a fucking duck

bluebeck · 02/12/2016 11:56

Don't you dare stay there OP!!! On command of Mumsnet!!!!

We forbid you

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 02/12/2016 11:56

Go. Go home. She's a twat. Please go.

Trifleorbust · 02/12/2016 11:59

Please, please go! She will continue to take the piss and you will continue to feel like crap about her walking all over you unless you make a stand.

Sweetandsour93 · 02/12/2016 11:59

Leave OP, go and spend your day how you like!! This woman is not your friend, she's a user and clearly taking advantage of your kind nature Sad

WeAllHaveWings · 02/12/2016 12:00

Text her and say "call me urgently"

and then be honest, ask about the note and then the food. depending on the answers tell her you are leaving because you have not food and it was agreed you would be paid and you are hurt by her attitude.

These conversations never end well with text messages.

LaContessaDiPlump · 02/12/2016 12:01

Text back 'You're not paying me and you want me to eat plain bread for lunch?'

Nothing in there that's untrue....

Fluffy40 · 02/12/2016 12:01

Take a few DVDs with you, to cover your expenses.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 02/12/2016 12:01

Go home OP. I've had friends like this and they bled me dry. The best thing you can do is to leave her to it. The way she's treated you is disgusting.

ohtheholidays · 02/12/2016 12:01

No fucking food or drinks! Is your friend bloody high!?

Leave and text her and tell her you've done so and that if she ever needs another favour that she should lose your phone number!

PlaymobilPirate · 02/12/2016 12:02

Text and say ' just to be clear- are you expecting me to stay all day, with only bread to eat, for bus fare?'

Happymac1 · 02/12/2016 12:02

Are you the friend who did the decorating?

Perfectlypurple · 02/12/2016 12:03

Definitely call her out on it. People like her rely on others being too embarrassed to say anything about their behaviour.

zukiecat · 02/12/2016 12:03

Hi, StStratter, thanks, lovely to be back!

You're all right, I should just go, as it's clear she does just expect me to sit and starve for free!

Also didn't mention this but she told me her heating wasn't working and they were waiting for parts but that the council (we're both council tenants" was providing her with heaters for the short term. I forgot about that til I got a bit chilly and went automatically to click on her heating.

It's fine! Do you think she intended for me to freeze as well, sorry for the dripfeed, wasn't meant to be!

Whatthefuckis1tnow · 02/12/2016 12:03

Wow! How rude. I certainly wouldn't be staying all day. She should be bending over backwards telling you to help yourself to whatever food is in the house. I think you're being totally had over. She is NOT a friend.

ohfourfoxache · 02/12/2016 12:04

Zukie it's so good to "see" you! Thanks Where have you been?

I'm so sorry to say this to you, and please don't take this the wrong way, but I seem to remember that people make a habit of taking the piss with you. It's not fair and it's not right.

I don't think your conscience will "let" you leave today (if it will then great!) but please please please do not agree to do anything like this for her again.

Kazplus2 · 02/12/2016 12:04

I would text and say - don't worry about not having enough money on you this morning, you can just pay me tonight - and then see what she responds with.

Bambinho · 02/12/2016 12:05

I'm a vegetarian but please go and take the bacon with you Grin

If you want be a bit sly, take the bacon out of the packet and wrap in a bag/foil/whatever you can find and leave the bacon wrapper on the floor with the fridge slightly open. I'm sure the dogs won't mind taking the blame seeing as you've been there for them all morning. Give them some treats before you go as an apology if you can find any, but not the grapes obviously!

Ohdearducks · 02/12/2016 12:05

Do you actually need this person in your life? What does she bring to your existence other than a feeling of being used?

Text back
"Have had a think and frankly I'm sick of you using me. Today is the final straw;
-no payment despite being promised this and no explanation of why or offer to pay later also no prior warning of this.

  • not even the decency to leave me something decent to eat given that I'm expected to sacrifice my entire day here dog sitting for you (for free now apparently)
This and the upteenth other times I've helped and supported you receiving pretty much nothing in return has taken its toll on my patience. I've fed and let the dogs in the garden for toileting (don't clean it up OP) and I'll be taking my bus fare and going home. Have a nice life!"
Wishforsnow · 02/12/2016 12:05

You must eat the bacon!

ohfourfoxache · 02/12/2016 12:05

Sorry for the aside, but when did Stratters become a saint?!!!! Shock Grin

Trifleorbust · 02/12/2016 12:06

She didn't even want you to put the heating on! The tight bitch! Please, please, please leave. Just text her saying you're freezing and hungry and you're going home.

Whatthefuckis1tnow · 02/12/2016 12:08

Out of curiosity how much was agreed that she would be paying you?

MangoBiscuit · 02/12/2016 12:08

Cheeky sod! I'd message her back and ask her what she's planning on you eating besides the bread, and will she be getting the cash out on her way home, because you need it by tonight.
