Am I right to feel a bit miffed?

First time posting for a long while so please be gentle!

I don't know if I'm just being a bit miserable or what but today I promised to look after a friend's three dogs in her home while she attends an appointment in a different city.

I am here from 9-4 and I have to go to work at 5pm (work a few shifts at my local shop)

Friend offered to pay me and said she would leave the money on the table, I arrive and find a note saying sorry can't pay you but here's your bus fare home (£4)

Am I right to feel a bit used as I have given up an entire day, for free?

I still have to work 5-10pm and again in the morning 7-1, so there will be no time to do anything else or see my daughter ( she's grown up, but we are very close)

Maybe I'm just a miserable cow and I'm all for helping a friend, but I always do the helping!

Zukie don't be tough on yourself. It's cheeky cow's fault for being a massive piss-taking bellend and using your kind nature to take advantage of you.

Being kind isn't a fault - it's a good thing.

Anyway, I really hope that you are locking and leaving as we speak. Then cut the cowbag off and don't speak to her again.

KatharinaRosalie · 02/12/2016 12:55

she's NOT your FRIEND. She's an user and piss-taker.

Just go. Dogs will be fine. Text her that she promised to leave money, as she did not, you will assume she is no longer interested in your service.

ChuffMuffin · 02/12/2016 12:56

Good for you Zukie! This woman is no friend, she sounds like a bloody user. Elaborately lied about there being no heating so you'd sit in the freezing cold all day so she could save a few quid, told you she'd pay you then "changed her mind" (except she didn't because she was never going to pay you in the first place, as you said she's got form for this), and left you with dry bread for lunch.

With friends like her, who needs enemies. What a selfish bitch.

ShadowMane · 02/12/2016 12:56

oh no, dont take ALL the bacon, leave one bit in the firdge

BreconBeBuggered · 02/12/2016 13:00

Honestly now. If you'd feel bad about eating the bacon without permission, that's fine. But you have to have something proper to eat before you start your shift at your own job - the one where they'll actually pay you. Let your friend know that, and leave the dogs. They'll be fine for 3 hours now, assuming pisstaking friend was intending to come back on time.

ohfourfoxache · 02/12/2016 13:01

If you do text her you could just drop in "oh, good news! Your heating appears to be working again"

What a bitch Angry

PaulDacresConscience · 02/12/2016 13:04

I would have been sooo tempted to have responded to the bacon text by saying Whoops, sorry I have eaten some of it. I assumed that you'd left it for me for lunch, because it would be pretty unreasonable to expect someone to sit in your house all day for free and only feed them dry bread

bluebeck · 02/12/2016 13:04

fox did you mean to say *If you do text her you could just drop in "oh, good news! Your heating appears to be working again - I have left in on max for the dogs." ?

I know it's hard OP but think how proud of yourself you will be when you walk out of that selfish cows door.

zukiecat · 02/12/2016 13:05

Thanks everyone for all the replies, given me a wake up call!

If this was another poster I'd be telling them to get up and leave and cut this person right out of their lives!

My CBT therapist gave me strategies and had me believing in myself a bit more, so time to find that belief again and just go!

I don' t need any users in my life, and really this one brings nothing to my life, I have all you lovely Mumsnetters and I made a really good friend at work, who does make me feel good about myself Smile

OhSuckItUpDucky · 02/12/2016 13:06

Leave now
She has zero respect for you . Text to just state you are leaving
The dogs will be absolutely fine
Just go

zukiecat · 02/12/2016 13:07

And as someone mentioned up thread if anyone treated my daughters like this I'd be fuming!

OP posts:
gillybeanz · 02/12/2016 13:07

It sounds to me like your friend is skint.
No food in the cupboard, heating not working, not swopping days of her dog walker, not paying you.

She shouldn't have offered to pay if she can't afford it, and doesn't sound like much of a friend tbh.
Not because of the money, if she is skint a good friend could tell a good friend they were experiencing money problems.

OohhThatsMe · 02/12/2016 13:07

OP, doesn't she ever leave the dogs on their own?

WouldHave · 02/12/2016 13:09

What's the story with the table?

ohfourfoxache · 02/12/2016 13:09

You know Bluebeck you know me so well! That's exactly what I meant! Grin

ChuffMuffin · 02/12/2016 13:10

Zukie, you sound like you're a very kind person :)

PS cook the bacon and feed it to her dogs, muahaha!

ConfusedRabbit · 02/12/2016 13:15

Go Zukie go!

Flowers from one doormat to another. You sound lovely and definitely deserve better.

MollyRedskirts · 02/12/2016 13:15

You can do it Zukie, you have it in you to leave. You're worth so much more - time to show your 'friend' that!

MoonfaceAndSilky · 02/12/2016 13:15

It sounds to me like your friend is skint.

But the dogs have plenty to eat. I think she's just a tight bitch who is using OP because she knows she is so nice.

zukie text her 'is there anything to go with the bread....?' Cheeky cow. I'm raging for you Angry

StStrattersOfMN · 02/12/2016 13:17

I do t care how skint, or not, this user is. You don't treat people like that, particularly lovely ones like zukie.

StStrattersOfMN · 02/12/2016 13:19

"Bring a sweater, the heating's on the blink"
"I've not had time to get to the shops, would you mind bringing yourself some lunch."
"I'll get cash out at lunchtime for you, I've not forgotten"

Didn't manage any of those though Hmm

Goingtobeawesome · 02/12/2016 13:22

If you're near me come round. Dh is making bacon sandwiches now. We are happy to share.

zukiecat · 02/12/2016 13:28

I've heard nothing from her all day apart from that one telling me not to eat her bacon, I did wonder about popping out to the shop and leaving her the receipt but if she's not going to pay me for my time, then she will certainly just ignore any notes or receipts I might leave.

No, as usual, she just thought she'd get gullible zukie to do it for her once more,

OP posts:
PlumsGalore · 02/12/2016 13:29

The dogs can definitely be left. They are left most other days as she has a dog walker. They can have a last wee and poo outside (her garden would be good - any poo I would just lift a bit nearer her front door) then give them the bacon, turn the heating up so they don't get cold and go.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 02/12/2016 13:29

Let the dogs out to do their business.
Put a radio on for company for them
Leave.

Send a text like what was suggested above and then ignore this user, because that is what she is. A USER. She should be embarrassed that she didn't have food for you.

Please leave.
