AIBU to think it's silly that DS can't wear these to nursery?

DS had some leggings on today - they're gorgeous! They have monsters on (not scary) but apparently he isn't allowed to wear them? They don't have a uniform, but apparently a Mum said that they scared her daughter Confused WTAF.

They're the most practical thing out there, both mine (boy and girl) lived in similar.

NapQueen · 29/11/2016 18:48

Those leggings are great!!

I'm sorry but I'd just keep sending them in on him.

idontlikealdi · 29/11/2016 18:48

That's ridiculous!!

Most of the boys round here wear leggings or even tights when I used to take mine to playgroup - the mum's said it was so much better than trying to get them to keep socks on when they pre-walking. Makes sense to me.

bloodymaria · 29/11/2016 18:48

I didn't realise boys in leggings was a thing, but frankly they look ridiculous on a boy.

Oh come on, seriously??

RumbleMum · 29/11/2016 18:49

South Please can you clarify why leggings are fine for a small girl but ridiculous on a small boy? Hmm

YANBU OP, but I think as PP have said it's probably best to save them for home. They're fab btw - tempted to get some for my DS.

FlyingElbows · 29/11/2016 18:50

Leggings! On a BOY?! Aren't you worried he'll catch the Gay?ShockHmmWink

Honestly. They're gorgeous. Other mother is being pfb.

saltedcaramelcones · 29/11/2016 18:50

I think they are brilliant!

BippityBoppityBullshit · 29/11/2016 18:50

Gracy I'm with you btw - I don't get why they look ridiculous?! They are basically the same as bottoms of baby grows with the feet off. I'll be putting DS in leggings - much comfier than jeans. At least I'd rather be in leggings than jeans all day!

NancyDonahue · 29/11/2016 18:51

Leggings are so practical and comfy for girls AND boys. Whoever says boys shouldn't wear them are loons. Henry VIII wore tights and he got plenty of action.

TheAntiBoop · 29/11/2016 18:51

I put ds in tights when he was a baby/toddler. And he was wearing leggings back then too so it has been a 'thing' for at least ten years

w12newmum · 29/11/2016 18:52

Great leggings, can't see the problem but no idea how I would handle it

GracyEvans · 29/11/2016 18:52

Bippity, jeggings are fab too. Yep, they normally come from the girls section, but look amazing on a little boy - definitely recommend. Jeans aren't great on a toddler - they're uncomfortable! Totally agree with you.

Thanks all Smile

I didn't even realise anyone objected to boys in leggings!

Am baffled by the notion that boys don't wear leggings!!!! Of course they can and do.

OP those leggings are adorable, but I must admit that one of the monsters looks slightly wolfy so I can kind of see how they might be scary to a little one. But I hope the nursery were good natured with you and not scoldy, because I reckon it's a pretty close call and I think that they wouldn't be right to 'ban' the leggings but might be reasonable to ask you to consider not sending your DS in in them out of consideration for the other kid.

I saw some amazing leggings with a family of beetroot on them yesterday which I am planning to get for my DS. yes, a family of beetroot

SouthofMaui · 29/11/2016 18:54

don't project your own prejudice on me! I thought we were talking about toddlers here Confused. Bloody hell, some people can't accept someone has a different opinion.

RentANDBills · 29/11/2016 18:54

GracyEvans That parents needs to get a grip, I'm pretty sure they sell those on Etsy too.

Those leggings are great and whomever complained to the nursery about scary leggings needs to sort out their priorities.

eurochick · 29/11/2016 18:56

This whole thread is baffling. Toddlers freak out about all sorts of bizarre things. You can't pander to it! And why wouldn't leggings be acceptable for a boy?

JeffreySadsacIsUnwell · 29/11/2016 18:56

Confused. That poor little girl isn't going to cope very well with life in reception class, let alone the world in general, if her mum complains about a child's clothes instead of teaching her DD there's nothing to be scared about! Bet the mum will have said "it's ok, darling, I've told the teachers to tell the little boy not to wear his horrid scary leggings any more", and the little girl will think that she was justified in being scared of them, thus reinforcing fear.

I'd be tempted to accede to the request, but put him in various other monster leggings and monster tops as much as possible, then put in my own complaint that actually my DS finds that weird Elsa creature who turns into ice quite scary, so could the little girl please avoid all Disney princesses?

As for leggings not being for boys, WTF? Why on earth not? DS is at school now but wears leggings at weekends - P O.P ones from John Lewis, which isn't exactly the most radical, avant-garde retailer out there. I think if John Lewis sells boys' leggings, you can safely assume they're fairly mainstream! www.johnlewis.com/brand/baby-child/boyswear/polarn-o.-pyret/trousers/boy/_/N-8j4Z1z13rm4Z1z1405hZ1z0rl69

SecretNutellaFix · 29/11/2016 18:57

Southofmaui- leggings look ridiculous on everyone when used as trousers, why single out small boys in particular?

Eevee77 · 29/11/2016 18:57

Seriously!? Most Disney movies contain scarier stuff. YANBU OP. They're brill too

RentANDBills · 29/11/2016 18:57

Bahahaha at "catching the Gay".

Thisjustinno · 29/11/2016 18:58

I wouldn't call them leggings. Leggings cling to the skin. Not that I'd care what sex of child would wear them by the way.

Tissunnyupnorth · 29/11/2016 18:58

I do think they look lovely, v cute.

However, if I was told they were scaring another child I would probably try and be accommodating (despite feeling it is a load of nonsense) as I know little kids can latch onto the most mundane things as scary and become distressed.

BusyBeez99 · 29/11/2016 18:59

Love them but they do look a bit more like PJ's
