AIBU to think it's silly that DS can't wear these to nursery?

DS had some leggings on today - they're gorgeous! They have monsters on (not scary) but apparently he isn't allowed to wear them? They don't have a uniform, but apparently a Mum said that they scared her daughter Confused WTAF.

£13 is expensive? Confused

I'm not rich by any means, and suspect most of mumsnet is better off than me, but even I don't consider £13 expensive.

Soubriquet · 01/12/2016 13:11

I do unfortunately.

The most I will pay for trousers for my DC is about £8.

Sainsburys will sell 3 pairs for £10 for example and that is perfect.

£13 for one pair is just too much.

RichardBucket · 01/12/2016 13:16

Well for you, maybe. But I do think it's wrong to judge or look down on the OP because she will pay 62.5% more than you. We all have our limits, usually arbitrary ones...

ProudBadMum · 01/12/2016 13:23

£13 for leggings?! Pfft not a chance

Are you the seller of the leggings OP Wink

Primarni specials for my kids only.

Soubriquet · 01/12/2016 13:27

I never judged or looked down on the OP!

Where did you get that from?

If I could afford the real deal I would happily go for it! I have no problem with her sending her son to nursery with them on

GracyEvans · 01/12/2016 13:31

Absolutely no issue with anyone getting from eBay. I'm also not referring to you Soub, but some people on this thread have made comments about me spending £20 on them or I'm being unreasonable to send him to nursery with them. IMO, I wouldn't send him in £1 ones, as I find holes develop very quickly and the material wears away, so that's why I wouldn't do that. We all do what we can afford though, right? I don't judge the parents who send their children in £500 coats, I don't know why it bothers people. Oh well

My son wears knitted leggings with patterns on them and a pic on the bum. He loves them coz they are colourful and comfy and we all think he is adorable in them.

I think its ridiculous to suggest that only girls can wear leggings...its not like we're putting them in skirts or dresses lol they are trousers

ebay sells some lovely woolly leggings for toddlers and i just love the wee picture on the bum...super cute!

Ilovetorrentialrain · 01/12/2016 15:44

helppleaseonnames re eBay my assumption is that they're second hand. Bought full price (ideally not from a sweat shop!) initially but being sold on.

caramac04 · 01/12/2016 20:30

Fab leggings and I bet little one looks super cute. Can't see they're scary but if so, nursery should be supporting to overcome the fear not banning the leggings

suzy2b · 01/12/2016 20:54

£13 for a pair of leggings i'd never pay that

GracyEvans · 01/12/2016 21:01

suzy - you don't have to?

FFS. Nice bit of publicity there for you OP. Hmm

RichardBucket · 02/12/2016 16:38

IT'S NOT THE OP'S COMPANY!

petitpois55 · 02/12/2016 16:50

Eh yeah, I Know.

ingy14716 · 02/12/2016 17:25

I think you have a right to dress him as you &&he like. What will they ban next, animals, trucks, smiley faces ? Maybe no dresses , all wear leggings or jumpsuits only? Some people just think the whole world is about them. Put those cute leggings on him & let mom worry about what is scary. May parents threaten her with monsters getting her ??Should be investigated

I'd class £13 as expensive.

Asda and Primark only for DD2 she grows like a weed and goes to nursery so gets messy and holey.

It doesn't really bother me people who spend more. My SIL spends hundreds on the kind of old fashioned outfits (if you've seen them) but meh it's her money to spend.

As long as they are clothed appropriately in the right size I don't see the problem.

car5ys · 02/12/2016 23:26

Oh fgs don't stop your child being comfortable and yes the nursery (if it has no uniform) are being unreasonable in asking you to change your child's attire. I think nursery need to address the other parents concerns and work with her and her child on not being "afraid" of a picture/print. What if your child was scared of Disney princesses would they expect all the LGS never to wear anything with those on?? How on earth do we expect children to deal with stuff if they can't cope with patterns on fabric! I despair 😞

brianna5 · 02/12/2016 23:45

Typical mumsnet😶 I'm sure we R all entitled to our own opinions!

I don't think the nursery dealt with it the right way. But do spk ur mind to the nursery staff and let them know they were wrong with their approach.

Be the bigger person and save them for home.

I love leggings on both boys and girls. Looks lovely to me

I am continually disturbed that ONE parent can change policy and I see this happening everywhere. Everyone else's rights are violated because one person is "uncomfortable," a word I am beginning to hate as it seems to empower the complainers.

Potentially fatal allergies aren't really comparable to a scary pair of leggings.

And: How on earth do we expect children to deal with stuff if they can't cope with patterns on fabric! I despair 😞

YES.
