To wonder if people actually can eat a full takeaway?

I just got a Chinese takeaway for myself as its been a long week and DH is out for dinner tonight and I'm stuffed. There's two thirds of the rice left and half the pork dish. It's an obscene amount of food for one person. Does anyone ever actually manage the full portion sent and if not, why don't they just send a real sized portion or at least indicate how many portions are in each tub. I feel designated at how much I've had to throw in the bin. I wish I liked it the next day but never can face eating it in the cold light of day.

TBF alots have pretty big appetites.

Mummamayhem · 19/11/2016 21:50

Shit I can. Very rarely- twice a year? Get a Chinese but I can eat it all no problem, plus spring rolls and the crackers.....

Mmmmmmhhhhhhh

Onenerfwarfrombreakdown · 19/11/2016 21:53

I can manage a portion of either Indian or Chinese on its own no problem Confused but I'll only have a little rice (to soak up sauce) as I find its the most filling thing. Or i will split a naan with DH.

The poster who said 1 fish n chips feeds 4 people wtf?? Quarter of a fish each, really? Hmm That's Lilliputian portions Grin

Artandco · 19/11/2016 21:55

A whole pizza each? Isn't that about 4 people portions?

Artandco · 19/11/2016 21:59

It says a pepperoni domino pizza is 244 calories per slice. So 3 slices would still be almost 750 calories
A large pizza is 10-12 slices apparently

ThymeLord · 19/11/2016 22:04

Oh I love these threads where everyone competes to see who eats the least. Yes I can easily eat a full Chinese. Daily, no? As a fortnightly treat, easy.

SinglePringle · 19/11/2016 22:05

Nope, take aways always defeat me.

Rarely order Chinese (too much MSG) and last ordered pizza in 2008!

Indian, I order a shashlik, dahl and lemon rice. Still never finish it.

ellamoromou · 19/11/2016 22:06

It amazes me how much some people can eat, I'm by no means a little eater but the takeaways around here could feed at least 2-3 people

Pizza - 10" - 2 slices, maybe 3 but I'd be comatose on the sofa after Blush
Indian - Half the curry, a third of the rice, 2 chapattis and an onion bhaji
Chinese - Half chicken egg fu yung, handful of chips, spoonful of chow mein and half pot of curry sauce
Mexican - 2 fajitas (chicken, onion, pepper, lettuce, cheese, guacamole, salsa and sour cream
Greek - one plate of meze then hide as the in-laws mutter under their breath what a poor eater I am! I have never know any nationality eat as much as greeks haha! Grin

dontcrynow · 19/11/2016 22:08

One Fish and chip dinner from the chipshop does both me and dh. portions are always massive

Puddington · 19/11/2016 22:09

I will say though that when it comes to takeaway pizza I'm able to store a lot more than Chinese takeaway it seems, I can typically eat half a Pizza Hut pizza (is that six slices?) as well as a portion of the chicken strips and some of their garlic bread... it's delightful Smile AND I think leftover cold pizza is so good or perhaps even better the next day!

BarbaraofSeville · 19/11/2016 22:13

Mezze is delicious but the worst. In my experience, Mezze for 2 would feed about 6 people. why do they give you so much food? Is it a cultural thing, where if you finish it all it is an insult to the host because you think their portions were mean, so they give you such a stupidly large amount that it would be impossible for even the biggest eaters to finish it?

peri89 · 19/11/2016 22:16

No, we would always order to share and even then there would be leftovers.

VoodooPeople · 19/11/2016 22:18

If I've had a little smoke of something herbal beforehand then yes, I can demolish an entire takeaway.

Otherwise it's about half with the rest for lunch the following day.

RepentAtLeisure · 19/11/2016 22:26

I'm currently eyeing up the last three slices of my pizza, and trying to decide whether the resulting indigestion would be worth it...

Cheby · 19/11/2016 22:29

DH and I usually share. But we got Chinese tonight, both starving when we ordered so we got our own mains. Had a soup each and shared a starter, now neither of us can face our mains, so it's going into the fridge untouched for tomorrow night's dinner. Eyes larger than stomachs, as my DM would say.

We usually share one portion of chips as a family too; one chips, one fish and a battered sausage between 3 of us is more than enough (I dislike fish otherwise we would probably all just share that).

Never finish a whole pizza, even a small one.

And neither DH nor I are small people. Take always are huge portions.

They give so much food because it is exactly that - a cultural thing. Even the poorest of Greeks will muster up a plate of bread, olives and cheese if you pop round for a hello! They are feeders lol - and tbf I've never been given a plate impossible to eat - it's a table stacked with lots of dishes of little food that you can pick from - although you get the aunties, cousins, uncles, brothers, sisters, SIL's and Mil's pushing lots of little plates in front of you haha - I absolutely love the life style they have - once the season is over everyone (cousins, great cousins, distant cousins haha) all sit and have their meal together with everyone bringing a dish of food Smile

Ta1kinpeece · 19/11/2016 22:40

I only ever have 2 meals a day - just habit.
If I know I'm having takeaway then I make the other meal smaller

Mezze : lots of mezze but no main course
Chinese : 2 starters each, share a main and share a noodles
Indian : 2 starters each, one bread, one main, no rice
Pizza : we make our own
Chips : I love the fish but hardly eat chips

phlebasconsidered · 19/11/2016 22:42

I usually order a takeaway, eat two bites, then use it to stock my freezer with note sized meals for the next 6 months.

Or, in the real world, I order a takeaway in a fit of totally can't be arsed to cook after a day out with the kids / rare tipsy evening and totally overorder. I then completely stuff myself, the kids eat all the chicken balls and prawn crackers, and there's only a bit left over for breakfast. Which we all want, despite all having to get up at 3 to drink gallons of water.

I'll order two mains and a side and it lasts me two or three meals.

PinkSwimGoggles · 19/11/2016 22:46

tbh I rather have a ready meal than a takeaway.
at least you know what's in it and all the takeaways in my area are low hygiene rated

BabooshkaKate · 19/11/2016 22:48

No, I always have some left for lunch the next day.

IcedVanillaLatte · 19/11/2016 22:54

both starving when we ordered

I'm genuinely, seriously baffled. To me, starving means I want more than a bowl of broth with a few noodles in and half a starter Confused

madein1995 · 19/11/2016 22:54

For something like a chinese ir indian i have leftovers - you pick a variety which is all sharing size so plebty left. Chippy, it depends, one near me does portions enough for 1, another does portions big enough for 2. Things like pizza or kebab shop style stuff i usually finish. My fave is a dominos though, which is good for 3 meals! I do find though that dominos are oddly filling.

madein1995 · 19/11/2016 22:57

For eg, we ordered from big portion chinese tonight which also does british meals. 2 regular chips between 3 adults, and a jumbo sausage/fishcake each. Theres enough for 2 meals leftover and we arent small eaters - I was starving having been to work and not getting much chance to eat, yet still filled up very quickly. I really dont thibk 1 fish n chips beteeen 4 is enough at all though.
