To wonder if people actually can eat a full takeaway?

I just got a Chinese takeaway for myself as its been a long week and DH is out for dinner tonight and I'm stuffed. There's two thirds of the rice left and half the pork dish. It's an obscene amount of food for one person. Does anyone ever actually manage the full portion sent and if not, why don't they just send a real sized portion or at least indicate how many portions are in each tub. I feel designated at how much I've had to throw in the bin. I wish I liked it the next day but never can face eating it in the cold light of day.

Some of you are right, I shouldn't bin left overs. But the only way I can explain it is that it's like the food version of beer goggles where you wake up and the food that hit the spot the night before is greasy, salty, shit meat that was prepared in a kitchen by chefs with dirty hands and moulding sauce at the back of the fridge. I am always revolted by takeaways in the cold hard light of day as much as I crave one occasionally (usually due to a hangover).

I have a 45 pound order coming from cook on the 24th hopefully its good, I don't have anyone I could send to collect so just chose the earliest home delivery I could find :) In the meantime though. Dominos it is

IcedVanillaLatte · 19/11/2016 21:16

Have you tried, y'know, ordering from an ordinary clean takeaway rather than this a grot-hole?

GrabtharsHammer · 19/11/2016 21:16

Oh good! Enjoy your Dominos diet until then, it's good soul food for a while.

Ragwort · 19/11/2016 21:17

Yes, I can eat a whole portion of a main dish and rice Grin - I try not to as I am overweight but always happy to reheat the next day.

Badcat666 · 19/11/2016 21:18

Really want a chinese now.... curse this thread!

Mom2Monkeys · 19/11/2016 21:18

My husband and I order three main courses between us from the take-away, and a portion of chips. We demolish the lot and I often still feel hungry.

DH is very tall and eats huge amounts, and we are both very slim (sorry, not boasting). Some people just have big appetites! LOVE FOOD.

Sallystyle · 19/11/2016 21:20

I just ate half a container of rice, half a bag of chips and 90% of the pecking chicken.

I am not fat. I do feel very full but it was lovely.

IcedVanillaLatte · 19/11/2016 21:22

I don't think it's supposed to be still pecking; surely that's a salmonella risk?

EatTheCake · 19/11/2016 21:23

Maybe you should try ordering from a decent take away OP, instead of throwing perfectly good food away!

The take aways here are pretty decent and I've never had a problem with the quality

The Chinese does huge portions so we normally eat 1/2 of what is ordered and freeze the rest and it's normally one of the teens that eat it again during the week.

Indian delivery here there is only one and they give restaurant size portions instead of huge take away portions like the Chinese, so when we order that it all goes.

Fish and chips. We all have a medium fish, chips and mushy peas and curry sauce and it all goes

Pizza I order order it for the teens as DH is Italian and will only eat pizza he has made and I agree his is miles better but Our teens love a dolminos now and then when they have friends over. They have a pizza, wedges and brownies, bottle of pop most times it's been in some kind of deal

OhSoggyBiscuit · 19/11/2016 21:24

This thread is making me feel hungry and I already had my dinner :(

Inthenick · 19/11/2016 21:25

I have yet to come across a takeaway that I trust to be clean. It's just a mental block I have about them all.

OP posts:
auldfuckingspinster · 19/11/2016 21:25

I just get a selection of starters. Won ton soup, spring roll, ribs and chips.

ShebaShimmyShake · 19/11/2016 21:25

Cold takeaway leftovers the next morning are so good. I'm classy.

Bluntness100 · 19/11/2016 21:34

This thread is making me giggle, I genuinely never knew people ate so little one bag of chips between four and there was plenty? Are these people " the borrowers" ?

Maybe people are snacking through the day or something, and that's why they aren't so hungry so can't eat it?

We order a ton of different things, prob four mains for three people, but just one rice and one noodles and then two or three starters, always loads left the next day,

But yes, if I was in the mood, I could totally put away a whole portion to myself. More probably. And no. I'm not overweight,,😂

bloodyteenagers · 19/11/2016 21:34

Depends.
The local Indian do a fab set meal for 2. So first time we bought it we were wtf. Two adults and a toddler, couldn't finish it. Now we order it if there 4+ of us. 2 x rice, mains, sides and naan all full plastic boxes full. We order more naan.

Pizza yes. I get a small 7in thin crust and a couple of wings.

Chinese yes as unless we are all sharing I don't get rice.

Kebab, chicken and chips, Peri peri, tapas, meze yes.

IneedAdinosaurNickname · 19/11/2016 21:41

Last time I ordered a takeaway I ordered small chips for the dc to share on the basis portions of chips are huge. Nope not from this takeaway. It wouldn't have been enough for one of them let alone 2!

Bf and I were discussing takeaway the other day as we are planning to get dominoes next time me and the dc stay for the weekend.
Him "yay. So we can share a meat feast pizza then?"
Me " yes. And get a cheese one for ds1. He doesn't eat meat feast"
Him " so we all have to have cheese? I don't like the cheese one"
Me " no. Confused we can order 2 pizzas. 1 wouldn't be enough for us all anyway" (3 adults and 2dc ages 12 and 10)
Him "why would we want 2 pizzas?"
Me Hmm

We have very different eating habits tbh. He eats a tiny dinner eg one of those mini pizzas. Then has a sandwich/rustlers burger whatever an hour or so later
I have a bigger dinner and then nothing else .

Turquoisetamborine · 19/11/2016 21:42

No if we get an Indian we will get one starter, one main and a side between us plus a naan and have enough to freeze for another meal.

Sallystyle · 19/11/2016 21:43

I don't think it's supposed to be still pecking; surely that's a salmonella risk?

Grin
Thatwaslulu · 19/11/2016 21:45

I couldn't. For the three of us we usually order two mains, a rice and chips, and there's usually leftovers.

IcedVanillaLatte · 19/11/2016 21:45

You're shitting me, Turquoise, surely? I know starter + main + side + naan is quite a big meal, but you're making that meal feed four adults? Confused

bloodyteenagers · 19/11/2016 21:45

Fish and chips, forgot about that. No the portions are huge. Occasionally get a small portion of chips, there's enough for 3 of us with whatever else we are having.

Sara107 · 19/11/2016 21:47

I think portions are huge, and myself and dh eat quite a lot! One rice and one main course would be enough for us, but you don't always want the same thing, and then one or two side dishes for variety and all of a sudden there is enough food for 5!

cottencandy55 · 19/11/2016 21:47

Once a fortnight me and dp share a curry with noodles and even between2 I can never finish my half dp does though and whatever I leave Confused

Twalls · 19/11/2016 21:48

Depends what I get.

Chinese - I only ever get a portion of noodles with curry sauce. I could probably eat a full portion of that.

Indian - curry and rice - no chance, DH and I share one portion.

Turkish - kebab and chips - nope, we share one portion.

I'm not a fan of greedy folk. One takeaway portion is ALOT for one person.
