To wonder if people actually can eat a full takeaway?

I just got a Chinese takeaway for myself as its been a long week and DH is out for dinner tonight and I'm stuffed. There's two thirds of the rice left and half the pork dish. It's an obscene amount of food for one person. Does anyone ever actually manage the full portion sent and if not, why don't they just send a real sized portion or at least indicate how many portions are in each tub. I feel designated at how much I've had to throw in the bin. I wish I liked it the next day but never can face eating it in the cold light of day.

God no! Wish I could though! DP can wolf his down (normally a meat dish and noodles/ rice) and then sometimes will start to eye up my leftovers if I haven't put them in the fridge!

I'm glad the portions are huge, love leftover takeway!

We have a pancake roll for starters and maybe some dim sum if we are super hungry and then we each have a meat/ noodle or rice dish each or I'll have a meat and noodle all in one dish. I never order rice unless I have a craving for special fried rice with sweet and sour sauce (as fills me up so much!) and DP growls at me if I go in for some of his singapore noodles (only kidding).

Same with curries. We share onion bhajis and I have a meat dish with sauce, sag paneer and peswhari naan for dipping. I eat half and have the rest for lunch/ dins the next day! nom nom nom

Leftover takeway the next day is soooooo gooooooood!! (i like mine cold but have to nuke them for DP)

OP - never throw it away!!! Just heat it up for lunch or dinner the next day!! I've even been known to make another chinese/ curry dish to bulk it out for dinner for both of us

Now I really really really want leftover special fried rice and sweet and sour sauce for breakfast... dammit!

Lilaclily · 19/11/2016 20:22

Obviously you nuke the rice to within an inch of its life , goes without saying whoever mentioned food poisoning

NicknameUsed · 19/11/2016 20:22

We had a Chinese takeaway the other day. I bought three mains and one rice for the three of us and ended up throwing some of the mains out.

Normally two mains and one and a half rice does for the three of us. The Indian portions are even larger and we have two mains, one rice and one naan between the three of us.

IMO takeaway portions are ridiculously large these days.

WritingHome · 19/11/2016 20:23

We don't eat a whole dish each here. If we get chinese takeway and dd (11)is sharing we will get 1 chicken satay with fried rice, 1 portion of noodles, 1 portion of spare ribs & prawn crackers. Often there is enough for a (smallish lunch for myself and dh the next day, dd won't eat it reheated).

Our takeaway is excellent and uses those clear lunch box style cartons

I don't like pizza very much so I never order that, though dh & dd like it so they get it mostly when I am out or working late.

If dh and I get fish and chips we get 1 fish supper to share and it is just the right amount. If dd wants some get 1 fish supper and 1 sausage supper and share as she sometimes doesn't fancy the fish

BarbaraofSeville · 19/11/2016 20:24

We always eat half and have the rest for lunch the next day. I love takeaway leftovers. It would be a major disappointment if there weren't any and despite reheating rice thousands of times, it's never caused a problem.

MissWillaCather · 19/11/2016 20:25

No, always share, maybe with a little side dish.

Eolian · 19/11/2016 20:27

A takeaway isn't a set amount of food Confused. Surely you order roughly the right amount for your appetite?

MrsGsnow18 · 19/11/2016 20:27

I do agree that portions are very large! Def big enough to share however My husband usually can finish any take away dish and will regularly go in hours later and finish mine! We used to get one between us both and split (which I thought was perfect and saved money) but clearly this wasn't enough for DH Grin

IcedVanillaLatte · 19/11/2016 20:28

Is this some kind of tiny appetite stealth boast thread or do you all live somewhere with portions twice the size they are round my way?

put some marg in the fry pan

BarbaraofSeville · 19/11/2016 20:28

Not when one portion is enough for two meals for one person and you both want different things, and leftovers, Eolian.

We sometimes share fish and chips but like different dishes from the Chinese.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 19/11/2016 20:28

We manage just about half.

Portion sizes are ridiculous locally. When we have fish and chips we order 1 portion for the whole family (4 people). We have never managed to finish the chips. We all love chips and have, erm, a healthy appetite.

PerspicaciaTick · 19/11/2016 20:30

Half a pot of chilli beef
Half a pot of chicken (probably with cashewnuts)
Half a pot of chowmein
Half a pot of rice.

Not a scrap left.

(Pots are about 5.5" by 4.5" - they don't do the large size round here).

Sparlklesilverglitter · 19/11/2016 20:31

If I order an Indian meal we can as portions are restaurant size so not overly big

If Chinese order, No we never finish it but freeze the left over for another day. The Chinese here is very generous with portions they are huge!

If pizza yes we can eat a medium pizza each

likepeasandcarrots · 19/11/2016 20:31

Velvet
Clearly I'm a pig as I can eat a whole rice and dish and sides as well. Or whole curry and rice with naan and poppadoms. Or a whole pizza.

I'm always baffled by people who share as I'd be starving!

I'm pleased someone else has said this, cos I'm the same. I'd never complain about getting too much!

JanetStWalker · 19/11/2016 20:31

I tend to order a few dishes at a time, I can still be eating it four days later Blush

PickAChew · 19/11/2016 20:31

It doesn't matter how much you nuke rice. Tge risk is from a toxic released and that toxin cannot be destroyed, no matter how well you reheat.

Bejazzled · 19/11/2016 20:31

1 portion of fish and chips for 4 people Shock

Well I just had beef curry and fried rice and ate every scrap

PickAChew · 19/11/2016 20:32

Toxic = toxin

EssentialHummus · 19/11/2016 20:32

I had Chinese yesterday- beef with mushrooms, singapore style noodles with chicken, prawn crackers and a spring roll. I had some yesterday, DH and polished it off today. £12.

EssentialHummus · 19/11/2016 20:33

I'd add - large Domino's pizza, can demolish alone.

JanetStWalker · 19/11/2016 20:35

Please don't ever pay full price for Dominos, it's a total rip off!

HowMuchDoWeNeed · 19/11/2016 20:36

"I feel disgusted at how much I've had to throw in the bin."

You know it's your own fault that you throw away perfectly edible food, right OP?

GrabtharsHammer · 19/11/2016 20:37

We had Dominos last night. A whole large each for me and Dh, one large between the teenagers and a garlic bread mini pizza for the 5yo.

There was enough left for breakfast this morning.

With an Indian I'll share one rice with the kids but we'll all have a portion of curry each, Dh will have his own rice and we'll share two naans between us all.

None of us are overweight, in fact they are all skinny minnies (I'm not so much but I'm only a size 12).

We just love eating and a takeaway is a rare enough treat for us to stuff ourselves.

JanetStWalker · 19/11/2016 20:38

It doesn't matter how much you nuke rice. Tge risk is from a toxic released and that toxin cannot be destroyed, no matter how well you reheat.

This is true, trick is to get it in the fridge as soon as you can. I've never had been poisoned yet even when I don't refrigerate it

loobyloo1234 · 19/11/2016 20:38

I've just eaten everything I ordered from the Chinese ... aswell as some Sweet and Sour Chicken on the side Blush
