To wonder if people actually can eat a full takeaway?

I just got a Chinese takeaway for myself as its been a long week and DH is out for dinner tonight and I'm stuffed. There's two thirds of the rice left and half the pork dish. It's an obscene amount of food for one person. Does anyone ever actually manage the full portion sent and if not, why don't they just send a real sized portion or at least indicate how many portions are in each tub. I feel designated at how much I've had to throw in the bin. I wish I liked it the next day but never can face eating it in the cold light of day.

Eat it tomorrow reheated !

Make sure you reheat rice properly or it's a mega food poisoning risk...

Yep. Grin

ClopySow · 19/11/2016 20:00

No, i always have leftovers for lunch the next day

Clankboing · 19/11/2016 20:01

DH and I always share a chinese and rice. Its impossible to eat a whole one. We take turns in choosing.

SpeckledyBanana · 19/11/2016 20:03

DH and I usually share 2 mains and one rice or noodles. If 2 DC are eating with us, 3 mains and 2 sides is fine.

HolgerDanske · 19/11/2016 20:04

We order two rices and one noodle dish plus a dish for each person, plus Mini spring rolls and sometimes a starter such as salt and chilli chicken wings, chicken or pork balls or Chinese ribs. We then share it all between us. Leftovers are never binned but are reheated the next day for lunch.

Takeaways are never, ever wasted in this house...

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 19/11/2016 20:04

I find rice incredibly filling - if I'm having Chinese I order a starter of spicy prawns and chicken satay skewers, no rice, no noodles. DH usually ends up having one of my skewers though. Indian again I never have rice, just a couple of sides and a chapati usually. Pizza I can stuff down like no tomorrow...

Wanderingraspberry · 19/11/2016 20:05

Because the joy of takeaway is next day leftovers!

c3pu · 19/11/2016 20:06

I remember the time I rolled in a bit drunk, and as punishment my then DP decided she would order Indian set meal for one, and eat it all herself.

Turns out the set meal for 1 was enough for 3 people. She gave it a valiant go, but in the end her principles and stomach gave up and she allowed me to have some...

FoofFighter · 19/11/2016 20:06

YABU to throw it out ffs.

But no YANBU, the portions are large, I remember the days when I would eat a whole portion, now it's a full plateful and plenty left for another full portion that I chill or freeze.

Bluntness100 · 19/11/2016 20:08

Yup, I totally can and then some if I put my mind to it...😃

Trills · 19/11/2016 20:09

One meat dish and one rice is rubbish though.

You need at least two things for it to be interesting.

Are you the kind of family that order one dish each instead of ordering a number of things and sharing them all?

throwingpebbles · 19/11/2016 20:11

If we were ordering Chinese /Indian we would normally get one main /rice to share plus a couple of starters, and there would normally be some left as well

YellowBucket · 19/11/2016 20:11

Try ordering a half portion next time? It's not always advertised but we've never had any problems when we have asked. Only one of us eats meat so it's a handy trick.

2kids2dogsnosense · 19/11/2016 20:12

Bin? What is this "bin" you speak of?

Anything left over goes in the fridge and I have it for breakfast.

But I agree portions are stupid - especially portions of chips. Time was you got a "paper" of chips and it fitted comfortably in one hand - now even a small portion easily feeds 2/3 people.

Stupid!

topcat2014 · 19/11/2016 20:13

Just eat it the next day - ideally all mixed in the same pan, piping hot, at about 11am

that's what I do

Bertucci · 19/11/2016 20:14

I have never ordered a takeaway just for me because even a minimal order would be too much. Slightly daft, I know.

I would throw away the leftovers too Blush

Velvetdarkness · 19/11/2016 20:14

Clearly I'm a pig as I can eat a whole rice and dish and sides as well. Or whole curry and rice with naan and poppadoms. Or a whole pizza.

I'm always baffled by people who share as I'd be starving!

Cocklodger · 19/11/2016 20:14

I can't speak for chinese takeaway.
ew ew ew. Round here at least it may as well be a tub of grease, no decent independent takeaways to be honest... There was a lovely curry place and I used to get a set meal for 2 for myself and xh but that shut down.
I only ever go for a dominos now, costs me 28-32 quid for a large pizza, drink, ice cream and a side but its the only thing I can stomach from around here, i eat the side, a few slices of pizza and ice cream and reheat the rest next day
It used to cost me about the same, maybe a fiver more though when XH was around as they do lots of bogof deals but I would never eat two pizzas.

Meluzyna · 19/11/2016 20:15

Yes, 2kids2dogs.... that's exactly what i was going to say - last time we had fish & chips it was 3fish and one chips - and it was for me, o/h and the 19 year old lad , ad we still found it was plenty of chips.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 19/11/2016 20:17

Our don't do half portions, we've asked both in person & on the phone...they're feeders!

User1987654 · 19/11/2016 20:17

I thought everyone assumed those chinese containers were for two people. I got my husband into Chinese fry ups for breakfast. Basically, you put some marg in the fry pan and toss it all in. It doesn't matter what the dishes are, they always mix well. Then serve it on toast. DH was very skeptical first time I suggested this with only fried rice and curry veg served on toast. He tried it and loved it lol. Now he is really game and will throw different dishes in there.

ohtheholidays · 19/11/2016 20:19

No never, the kebab places are the worst around here we can order 1 small kebab and split it between me and my DH and it will fill 2 dinner plates and it costs under £5.

JemimaMuddledUp · 19/11/2016 20:20

No.

If we have a Chinese takeaway we get a set meal for 2 plus a portion of chow mein and it feeds 5 of us (2 adults and 3 DC aged 10, 12 and 14).

If we have fish and chips we get 3 portions and split them between us.

We aren't particularly small eaters but takeaways are huge!

Ta1kinpeece · 19/11/2016 20:21

HOW MUCH !!!!!

DH and I had spring rolls, chicken satay, dim sum pancakes, prawn crackers, vietnamese stir fry noodles with prawns and beef with lemon grass for £22
