I predict that in the coming hours and days, the analysis will show that Trump got demographics voting who don't usually vote. And that those demographics have low levels of formal education, with many not having a college degree.

I bet Putin is smiling from one side of his face to the other. Amazing that a candidate who may well be bankrolled by Russia has won the American presidency.

paulapantsdown · 09/11/2016 07:56

Jesus Christ - a days work ahead on 2 hours sleep. I am in shock. Stupid fucking Americans.

Old white men truly do run the world. To fight against old white fascists in the US or here seems to be futile.

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2016 07:56

No one's going to assassinate him. MAYBE some high up CIA type conspiracy theory level shit, but his supporters are the assassinating type. Not us.

Alfieisnoisy · 09/11/2016 07:56

He has a number of court cases coming up doesn't he? If he goes to prison we get President Pence who is a far right creationist nutter. In his State he voted for the right of high school students to to carry guns in school.

Hadalifeonce · 09/11/2016 07:56

Love to know what affect repealing the VRA has actually had on this election!

Livelovebehappy · 09/11/2016 07:57

Lots of drama and footstamping tantrums on here. Get a grip fgs! The majority have spoken and whether people agree or not with the result, this is democracy. All this hysteria may be unfounded. If this time next year he has brought America to its knees, then people can get hysterical, but all we can do is trust that the majority have made the right decision, and watch what happens going forward, from the sidelines.

GiveMeRitz · 09/11/2016 07:57

Joylibs while I agree with you, they won't blame themselves they turn on the nearest vulnerable group and blame them.

HearTheThunderRoar · 09/11/2016 07:58

I've been watching this unfold all day (not uk), I'm to bed before waking up to reality tomorrow.

I'm in disbelief.

As if 2016 couldn't get any worse.

Alfieisnoisy · 09/11/2016 07:58

I will get a grip IF in a years time he has proved himself to be more than the racist egotistical orange pumpkin in a toupeee that he appears to be

AntheaBelveden · 09/11/2016 07:59

DH works with an American guy who voted for Trump.

He's Hispanic and yet according to DH he's the most racist, sexist and homophobic person DH has ever met.

It's not just the uneducated white vote that won the election for Trump.

Lottie- that's just what my dh has just said. He thinks tha DT will probably be assassinated by one of his own supporters when they realise that he hasn't fulfilled his promises

QueenLizIII · 09/11/2016 07:59

Why didnt Clinton just give it up in 2008 when she wasnt selected. A UK politician would give up.

Neither candidate was any good but she should have given up the ghost years ago

JoyLibs · 09/11/2016 07:59

I don't think people are getting that we might have a republican majority in all three branches of our government very soon. One seat on the Supreme Court needs to be filled, and the court is 4-4 Republican and Democrat.

I'm so ashamed to be American right now.

BipBippadotta · 09/11/2016 08:00

While I'd dearly like DT not to exist, the thought of what an assassination would result in is not pretty either - you'd get all sorts of terrifying backlash from wingnut militias and an even more deeply divided country. Plus he'd be a martyr to whatever hateful cause he represents for people.

Mama1980 · 09/11/2016 08:00

Its true about his majority obviously but how many of his own party actually agree with his more extreme policies, answer is not many. Loads of scholarly articles online about this. Plus the inauguration isn't until January and challenges can be made and if he faces criminal assault charges then things may change.
He and any American president in reality has less power than our prime minister and just look how our pm s can be blocked at every turn.

LittleLionMansMummy · 09/11/2016 08:00

Just woken up to this news. Just when I thought the people of the free world couldn't be more intellectually deficient, they go and surpass all my expectations. Congratulations America on electing a fascist, misogynistic sex pest to the most powerful office in the world.

RedBullBlood · 09/11/2016 08:00

Most of all, I am baffled at how serious political commentators got it so wrong. I have been reading for months that Trump 'can't and won't' win.
What the fuck happened there?

Thefitfatty · 09/11/2016 08:00

The thing is the US is already very internally fractured. This election proves that. From an international perspective lets hope things continue to get worse internally so he remains focused on that and leaves the rest of the world alone.

Catsize · 09/11/2016 08:00

Seriously America, what were you thinking? It is a frightening future.

HateSummer · 09/11/2016 08:00

Omfg. I'm shaking with fear and anger.

WhatHaveIFound · 09/11/2016 08:01

It's scary to think that Congress is Republican too so who's going to stop him? If it's possible i think this could be even worse than Brexit!

Am due to travel to the States next week. Even the fact that i'll probably get more dollars for my money is not cheering me up right now Sad

BipBippadotta · 09/11/2016 08:01

UK politicians are constantly giving up - any time things don't go right for them, anything things do go right for them and they decide they're no longer interested in seeing it through... that's not a terribly noble way to be a politician either. Try as you might I honestly don't think you can blame this on Hillary.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 09/11/2016 08:02

While I despise Trump, all the casual 'hoping for an assassination' comments are a bit off.

rawsienna · 09/11/2016 08:02

On the, good side, hes pro Brexit britain, so we will be free to do more trade, with them.
He might actually be good for Britain.
