To never wash again

Horridhenryrules · 07/11/2016 20:04

Am I being unreasonable to never wash my hair again. Does anyone else not wash their hair?

OP posts:
Bertucci · 07/11/2016 21:19

Cherrysoup - my hair is corkscrew curls too, but I have yet to try the no-poo co-washing method.

How long did it take before it started to look amazing? Do you use only conditioner and no product?

PickledCauliflower · 07/11/2016 21:21

Cats are able to wash themselves.

Never washing your hair will mean never washing your scalp.
I understand that their may be alternatives to traditional shampoos, but I fear that it will really smell if not washed at all.

PickledCauliflower · 07/11/2016 21:22

There not their :)

elodie2000 · 07/11/2016 21:22

Today 20:12 Leanback Don't know what cats you're smelling
I don't have cats and whenever I go into a house with pet cat I can smell them. I suppose everyone gets used to their own pets but sorry, they stink! Dogs/houses with dogs do too! Sorry!
Back to OP! Wash your hair!!

Some don't wash their hair but personally I'm not convinced.

thecatsarecrazy · 07/11/2016 21:23

My cats don't reek thank you. One has stinky breath but her fur doesn't smell

ItsJustNotRight · 07/11/2016 21:25

Bertucci I know someone with curly hair who uses "no poo" shampoo from USA. Say they use that and never comb or brush their hair , only run their fingers through once it's dried. It looks fantastic.

DinosaursRoar · 07/11/2016 21:28

there's 2 types of people who don't wash their hair - the people who don't wash their hair and the people who only wash it with water and think that means they don't wash their hair.

DD had a bath before bed tonight that just had water, no soap or bubble bath in it, I would not say she didn't have a wash tonight.

Stop using shampoo, but if you don't wash your hair at all, there will be dirt in it and it will smell.

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2016 21:28

Eww. Just wash your hair. It doesn't take long after all. Imagine what you pillow would end up like.

elodie2000 · 07/11/2016 21:31

thecats Smile I bet they do!!! You're used to them! Grin

I am personally grateful that the weather has turned colder. It means I can bury my nose in my scarf when sat next to someone with reeking, unwashed hair on public transport. Please wash your hair, the smell is horrendous and gives me the dry boak.

Horridhenryrules · 07/11/2016 21:35

I normally wash my hair with timotei 2in1 and I wash 2 to 3 times a week. Does anyone make their own shampoo using herbs etc.

pklme · 07/11/2016 21:41

I do. Try FB under 'no poo'. Loads of advice, much better place to talk about it than here.

ViewBasket · 07/11/2016 21:42

It sounds like your shampoo isn't right for your hair type. Are you rinsing your hair properly, i.e. not just shampooing it while in the bath and then "rinsing" it by dipping your hair into the soapy water? Do you use conditioner and leave it on for long enough? Have you tried any natural SLS-free hair products? Or one of the shampoos which removes residue build-up? You could ask your hairdresser what they'd recommend (ask for general advice, rather than a specific product, unless you fancy trying the inevitably expensive in-house stuff).

Hair can and does smell if not washed. Certainly in the days of smoking in public places, after a night out it was necessary to wash the smoke smell out of clothes and hair, and even now, obviously there is still pollution and dirt that can cling to hair.

BratFarrarsPony · 07/11/2016 21:46

I got a bit depressed last year and didnt wash my hair for a ...while...Grin and it was bogging, and that was not even living in a polluted area...

At the moment I am using head and shoulders every morning, and rinsing properly, and my hair looks lovely tho I say it myself.

steff13 · 07/11/2016 21:48

Is that a thing?

PinkSwimGoggles · 07/11/2016 21:48

2in1 products are shite. they make my hair lank, greasy and frizzy at the same time.
I rather just use (sls free) conditioner than those.

SabineUndine · 07/11/2016 21:50

I've had to go a week without washing my hair several times because of operations and I can tell you after a week it's bloody crawling (in the metaphorical sense). Don't do it.

Horridhenryrules · 07/11/2016 21:52

I always use the shower on my hair so there's no residue.

OP posts:
SabineUndine · 07/11/2016 21:52

elodie, I've got a cat too, and he smells like a box hedge in the summer. Not an unpleasant smell at all. Certainly doesn't smell of cat pee. And definitely nothing like the way dogs smell.

PikachuSayBoo · 07/11/2016 21:54

If I've got sweaty down the gym I have to wash it or my scalp itches.

selavy · 07/11/2016 21:56

Frankly, I can't believe that anyone would ever seriously consider this, therefore YABVU

DeathpunchDoris · 07/11/2016 21:57

It supposedly self cleans after going through a smelly, greasy nasty phase. People who have managed to stick with it say their hair is in far better condition because it is no longer being stripped with chemicals to keep it clean. I think it is common in Asian countries, but may be wrong

SquinkiesRule · 07/11/2016 21:57

I do the No-poo co wash thing. I've been doing it for about 12 or 13 years. I have corkscrew curls and it's dry. Shampoo made it dryer and knotted, so I took the plunge.
I was very insecure about it at first, even made my friends do the sniff test and my Mum when she came to visit.
No smell, my scalp no longer had the odd pimple on it and it wasn't as wild. The curls seemed better formed and it grew a lot longer.
I've chopped it quite a few times since then, and used to ask the hairdresser to only rinse and condition and they had no issue with that.

I've never had greasy hair and it's still not greasy.
I put a dab of shampoo on it if I get something dirty in it, like when we were moving house and got dirt in it from emptying the attic.
I use a blob of coconut oil warmed in my hands and pulled through the ends after a shower and occasionally use Fantasia frizz buster.
