I spend a fortune each year on my favourite hobby and scour the 3 or 4 local ish theatres to see what's out there.

I have this week just discovered Rent and was blown away by the performance of Layton Williams. Singing, dancing, back flipping and doing the splits - all in three inch heeled red boots! Just wow. The ticket price was worth it for that itself!

So, what are your favourites (so I can find some new ones to watch)...?

Les Mis, forever.

Jesus Christ Superstar, in phases.

Hamilton. I'm completely obsessed.

cardibach · 28/10/2016 20:15

Rent is awesome! Try to find In The Heights somewhere. Lots if buts on YouTube eg
Anything by Jason Robert Brown, particularly Parade and Bridges of Madison County (also on YouTube as audio files). Book of Moemon if you don't mind blasphemy and swearing. Waitress (only in NYC at the moment). I love new musicals.

MetalMidget · 28/10/2016 20:16

Wicked and Phantom of the Opera!

cardibach · 28/10/2016 20:17

Please excuse typos and autocorrect issues. I think you can still work it out.

PoptartPoptart · 28/10/2016 20:17

I love most musicals, my top favourites are: Miss Saigon, Les Mis, Wicked, Phantom, Sunset Blvd. I'm off to see Murder Ballard in 2 weeks time... can't wait!

SorrelForbes · 28/10/2016 20:18

None of my favourites are on professionally at the moment but include:

Pippin
Guys and Dolls
The Drowsy Chaperone
Anything Goes
Oklahoma!
Assassins
Merrily We Roll along

EsmesBees · 28/10/2016 20:19

I love a bit of Sondheim. Especially In to the Woods, Sweeny Todd and Merrily we roll along.

PoptartPoptart · 28/10/2016 20:19

I'm currently trying to persuade DH that we need a trip to NY next spring to see Miss Saigon & Sunset Blvd on Broadway, seeing as they are no longer running in the west end

ClashCityRocker · 28/10/2016 20:19

I'm obsessed with Les Mis although have never seen it staged - hoping to next year though. Currently watching the film!

I'm a fairly recent convert to musicals after seeing Chicago a few years back.

Going to London next year so keen to see a west end performance - dh less so

YouTheCat · 28/10/2016 20:20

I can't think of many musicals I don't like though I don't get to see them in the theatre very often.

I prefer the oldies to the modern ones though, generally, apart from Rocky Horror which is a work of genius.

EverySongbirdSays · 28/10/2016 20:21

There are loads of musicals on for me in the new year - excited

Locally I'm excited for Sunny Afternoon, Commitments, Evita, Ghost

My personal favourites are : The Lion King, Wicked

I'm obsessed with the Hamilton soundtrack

Hoping to get to In The Heights and Matilda in the West End this year

Love Les Mis but have still never seen it on stage

Was devastated when Top Hat had only a minimal tour, really wanted to go.

Singin In The Rain on stage was brilliant a couple of years ago.

SparklyLeprechaun · 28/10/2016 20:21

Les Mis, every time. I go to plenty of musicals in the West end but every now and then I just have to go and see Les Mis yet again for the umpteenth time.

Soozikinzi · 28/10/2016 20:22

West side story saw it last year in Manchester fantastic !also seen Annie with Craig Revell Harwood who was great as Miss whatever ,lion king and Chicago but Westside story is something else xx

Only1scoop · 28/10/2016 20:23

phantom ....I've seen it on Broadway twice in Vegas 3 times and 6 times in West End.
I cry all the way through

TheHighPriestessOfTinsel · 28/10/2016 20:23

Chicago
Had tickets for it last year but norovirus meant I couldn't go Sad.
DH is slightly obsessed with Les Mis, and although the film left me cold I will confess to having a little weep when I took DH to see the London production for his birthday.

Beardsareweird · 28/10/2016 20:25

Les Miserables
West Side Story
Phantom
Jesus Christ Superstar

CharleyDavidson · 28/10/2016 20:25

I saw Rocky Horror last week. Always a winner!

I also love (in no particular order)...
Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Joseph, Guys and Dolls, Chicago (also only discovered this year), Phantom and Little Shop of Horrors. Also Grease.

I'm watching Ghost for the first time next year and looking forward to it.

Nowhere near London, so stuck with waiting for things to tour is soooo frustrating!

Last month I went to see the Improvised Musical. Just amazing. So funny.

On and Gypsy. Saw it in Chicester a couple of years ago and was blown away.

SorrelForbes · 28/10/2016 20:26

Currently in a rehearsal room with 50+ kids doing a run through of Oliver! It's the seventh time I've done the show and it's definitely not one of my favourites! Grin

228agreenend · 28/10/2016 20:27

Saw Memphis last year - superb

Barnum - saw in 80s with Michael Crawford - best ever live performance

Blood Brothers - musical I've seen the most, great story and music

Guys and Dolls - love the music

SorrelForbes · 28/10/2016 20:28

Oh yes, Gypsy needs to be on my list too! Imelda Staunton was incredible as Rose.

TheHotstepper · 28/10/2016 20:32

Has nobody mentioned Jersey Boys yet? Gutted it's finishing in the west end.

Love Rent too.

ItsJustNotRight · 28/10/2016 20:32

Book of Mormon by far the funniest I've seen for ages, it was brilliant.

TheHighPriestessOfTinsel · 28/10/2016 20:34

Oh, I forgot Jerry Springer the Opera. Amazing.

Milliways · 28/10/2016 20:36

Love Les Mis and all the other West End big names, but was really taken with 'Once' the musical and keep watching bits of it on YouTube.
