I spend a fortune each year on my favourite hobby and scour the 3 or 4 local ish theatres to see what's out there.

I have this week just discovered Rent and was blown away by the performance of Layton Williams. Singing, dancing, back flipping and doing the splits - all in three inch heeled red boots! Just wow. The ticket price was worth it for that itself!

So, what are your favourites (so I can find some new ones to watch)...?

Oliver isn't on anywhere though (unless you find an amateur production

Bloody Hell! You are right! (I have just looked it up as I was looking to take my son and his friends to watch it for DS 10th birthday in April). It has to be Lion King instead then. I'm not sorry - I love Lion King :D

EvilTwins · 03/11/2016 18:19

Can't stand Rent - other than Seasons of Love.

Currently working on Guys & Dolls for the school show and I've remembered how much I love it.

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 03/11/2016 18:44

I have seen Phantom in the West End when Michael Crawford was the star and saw The Sound of Music in the West End when Connie Fisher did it after winning the tv show, and I have seen the national touring productions of

Phantom
The Lion King
Joseph (3 times)
Cats (2 times)
The Sound of Music
Dirty Dancing
Mary Poppins
Grease
Annie
The Bodyguard
War of The Worlds (2 times) (not really a musical possibly? but brilliant show)
Sister Act is booked for next year.

I really want to see Cats and The Lion King again too and would love to see them in the West End. I also want to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mamma Mia.

I always treat myself to decent seats as well and I take my DC too now as well , because I would have loved to have gone when I was a child.

gillybeanz · 03/11/2016 18:51

I'm a huge fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Rodgers and Hart.

So any of their musicals are great by me.

I also like.

Hello Dolly
Half a sixpence
Finian's Rainbow
Gigi
My Fair Lady

and loads more Grin

MadisonAvenue · 03/11/2016 18:59

Loved: Wicked, Blood Brothers, Jersey Boys and local to me there is frequently a production of Helen Forrester's Twopence To Cross The Mersey which is great.

Ok: The Commitments, The Book of Morman, Billy Elliot

Have registered to try to get tickets for Hamilton as my 14 year old son is desperate to see it.

Would love to see Miss Saigon

PetalMettle · 04/11/2016 07:47

I think I'm more excited about Dream girls than xmas, there's a group of us going and going to make a day of it in London.

SirChenjin · 04/11/2016 07:54

Calamity Jane - no contest

Boolovessulley · 04/11/2016 17:03

Saw Mary Poppins and it was fabulous.

Sundaysmumisfullofwine · 04/11/2016 17:57

I'd love for Newsies to come over to the uk - loved the Disney movie and what I've seen of the stage show on YouTube and Facebook has looked great.

Wasn't a fan of the commitments - gutted really as it's my favourite film.

Pricilla queen of the desert was fantastic, love Lion King, legally blonde was ok.

Definitely want to try to see Sister Act

PetalMettle · 05/11/2016 08:10

I'm going in December gemm I'll post a review!

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 05/11/2016 08:29

Absolutely love phantom of the opera but have yet to see it on stage, dropping hints for DP to take me (only wish Gerard butler was the phantom on stage too Wink).

Rocky horror is my other favourite and I have seen that one live for the first time this year it was worth every penny! Had everyone up doing the time warp at the end, fabulous!

CharleyDavidson · 05/11/2016 15:34

Phantom was fabulous when I first watched it. Then I saw it again a couple of years ago when they'd restaged it and changed some of the staging. I liked lots of the new changes. The mirror on the ceiling was great for seeing the action in the dance parts from a different angle. But I did miss the swinging/dropping chandelier that they used to have.

Considering I only gave Rent a go as it was cheap and in the local theatre, I can say I'm a total convert. It was amazing. I've never cried so much in public before! Grin Even the bloke next to me was wiping away a manly tear or ten.

I think this thread is my spiritual home.

GiantHulkHands · 13/11/2016 15:10

Cabaret!

I love the songs so much I might go annoy the kids by singing them for the rest of the day

MidniteScribbler · 13/11/2016 20:49

I thread of my soulmates. I'm obsessed with musicals.

I saw Matilda last week (in Melbourne) and was blown away. Very clever.

Les Mis is still one of my favourites. Twenty eight times and counting.

I love Victor Victoria (got to see Liza Minelli perform this on Broadway).

I'm going to see Kinky Boots soon and I'm looking forward to that.

ElizaSchuyler · 13/11/2016 20:51

Kinky Boots was fun.
