To tell this bride to go swivel?!

Badger84 · 28/10/2016 19:30

A friend of a friend is getting married and she had asked me to do her makeup as a favour. I am not a MUA but I enjoy hair and makeup and have a huge selection of makeup. I was shocked but agreed when I highlighted the point that I am not professional and she was happy with that.

5 makeup trials later and we have come to the understanding that she has unrealistic expectations of what I can provide. Her SIL has been at each of these trials and completely picked apart what I have done. The brides style is quite errr alternative (think gothic) so I've found it incredibly hard to recreate the look she wants. We finally came to a compromise and the bride was happy.

We went to the hen do previous weekend and the SIL kept making comments about makeup. Today I have received a message from the bride basically saying if I didn't want to do the makeup then I didn't have to 🤔

Not sure how to reply? AIBU to be annoyed that I have spent over 5 hours with the bride, using my makeup FOR FREE and now she is essentially ditching me. The wedding is next week! My DH says I should be relieved but I can't help but feel really annoyed!

It's like a scene from single white female!!! I'd be distancing yourself OP! The sister obviously has issues too!

So much for the natural look? Purple eyeshadow and bright pink lipstick, maybe a natural clown? ;)

Badger84 · 06/01/2017 13:06

Looking back on it now I think she never wanted me to do her makeup, she just wanted an excuse to have me over and "talk weddings" which of course I answered all her questions, because I thought she was genuinely interested not that she wanted to steal my ideas!!

I laugh at it now but honestly when she stood up to do her speech and it started off with the exact same joke that I opened with, my jaw just literally dropped to he floor. My DH said my face was an absolute picture!

Badger,

Dunno if you have children, but if not, what you need to do now is say that you and you DH are thinking about starting a family and come up with some hideous names for children - pretend that they are treasured family names that you would be sooooo upset if someone else used. I guarantee she'll be trumpeting them as her own choice for her kids.

Then, of course, don't use them.

Kirstyinnorway · 06/01/2017 13:26

Yay badger! Thanks for the update! What a nightmare she sounds - completely unhinged Confused

I'd definitely be telling her I was seriously considering emigrating to Australia and see if she makes the first move!

PaulDacresConscience · 06/01/2017 13:32

Brilliant update - she sounds daft!

smearedinfood · 06/01/2017 13:44

spend less on present, sorted..

1horatio · 06/01/2017 13:46

Creepy!

I'm sure your makeup looked better.
Just give her wrong infos? "My clothes? Oh, I get them from M&S... I especially love the flowery blouses!"

RentANDBills · 06/01/2017 14:33

Anyone else hear whilst reading the update?

What a fucking nutter, OP. Seriously. Watch your back.

JorahsMissus · 06/01/2017 14:41

That is way too weird. She and her SIL are fucking nuts. I hope you've told all and sundry about it.

Badger84 · 06/01/2017 14:50

rent actually spat my tea out at that!!

I've asked all family and friends to stop telling her information about me in the hope if she has no contact with me then she will give up Confused

BigGrannyPants · 06/01/2017 14:51

If it continues, keep a diary and go to the police, she sounds totally unhinged

altiara · 06/01/2017 14:53

Thanks for the update OP. Shame it's got past annoying and zoomed into freaky weird shit though.

JoeyJoeJoeJuniorShabadu · 06/01/2017 15:20

She sounds effing bonkers.
Be careful you don't get wendied.

carefreeeee · 06/01/2017 15:34

Ask her to reimburse you for the make up used. That is only reasonable and she should have offered it from the start IMO

AlpacaPicnic · 06/01/2017 15:46

Ooh, did you buy her a wedding gift in the end? Forgive me if it's mentioned in your update I cannot be arsed to scroll back and check because I'm super lazy

I'm sure we could come up with an appropriate gift for slapzilla...

Badger84 · 06/01/2017 15:46

Wendied?! What is that dare I ask..........

OP posts:
Badger84 · 06/01/2017 15:47

I got her a wedding memories box, it was so beautiful and I bregrudged giving it to her to be honest and thought about keeping it for myself. I didn't get a Thankyou though

OP posts:
AlpacaPicnic · 06/01/2017 15:50

Oh no... :( Can you break into her house and steal it back?

Wendied is where someone infiltrates a group of friends by becoming super pally with one of them, then slowly freezes out the 'original' friend and turns the rest of the group against her - usually by spreading rumours and lies and being dramatic - and makes herself queen bee of the group.

Wdigin2this · 06/01/2017 16:08

I'd say...well as you and I obviously have very different ideas about bridal make up, I'd rather not do it anyway!

HappyFlappy · 06/01/2017 16:15

I am disappointed that you got her a present - you are too nice. If you had to get something, a toaster would have been fine.

As er make-up was revolting, I hope you distanced yourself from it as much as you could - you don't want anyone thinking you were responsble for her car crash face.

And don't forget that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - see if your family will recommend Lithuanian film noir as your favourite evening entertainment.

Megatherium · 06/01/2017 17:50

I wonder what happened to the "more natural look" that she said she preferred?

haveacupoftea · 06/01/2017 18:11

Love the update! I have a friend like this too...i told her the date I wanted for me wedding and she ran off and booked it first then acted like nothing happened! Now I am pregnant she is trying as well! Confused

tooclosetocall · 06/01/2017 18:13

Wow Badger, what a fucking nutter she is.
I like how your DH sees the funny side (SWF indeed). Give her a wide berth but still have someone taste your food.

Yes Rents that's exactly what was playing here in my head. Complete psycho but job.

tooclosetocall · 06/01/2017 18:22

I have a friend who had a lovely spring wedding only to have her SIL (her new DH's sister) choose the same date for her wedding day the following year. And picked the same wedding dress. Apparently she thought it was an non-issue because the dress was ivory (and not the white dress my friend wore). The SIL was quiet open about it but those who knew both families were HmmHmm. 10 years ago I still remember it as bizarre today as it was back then.
