To ask if you are as socially awkward as me...

And for some stories?

A couple of days back I just met my cousins partner for the first time. All is going well and she says she likes my top and asks where I got it. My answer?

'Oh I have had it on for two days as I am such a scruff round the house'

She just kind of looked weirdly at me and went 'riiiiight' and walked out of the room .

Seriously wtf inspires me to say shit like that? Its not the first time and probably won't be the last either. So socially awkward. I expect I am not alone, whats your worst?

yes, but I have my period Grin

I started a new job last week, i was paired up with an older lady who obviously wasn't happy having to show me what to do but was being polite all the same. Im trying to think of things to say and she's giving me 1 word answers, so in the end I shut up.

She starts talking to her friend nearby while i'm standing alongside of her picking things off the shelf, at 1 point she tries to include me in the conversation but its something i cant relate to - her husbands gout in his big toe - so instead i find myself staring ahead at the shelf doing a side smile with my eyes to the left to let her know i've heard her. I immediately thought to myself stop it you look like mr bean, she moved away and barely spoke to me after that! Smile

Love the fact this thread has come back into "active"

Not a one situation, but - we have a work Experience/intern person at work this week is... Well, he might he a mumsnetter on this thread he's that awkward!

Paired with my awkwardness it's been a disaster all week, I've given him tasks, asked if he's finished them and He's said... 'Yeah'.. When I can see he hasn't (been watching him, and hasn't even started or grasped the concept of it!) .. I just say "ohh... Well it doesn't look like it! Do some more!" and walk off.

I also gave him a task of looking through the obituaries in the paper (necessary task for job, trust me) and just explained it as... "here, look for dead people!" ... "well, not in the Bruce Willis way... More, find out who died and tell me!"

Hoping I have a work colleague to take over today! Confused

look for dead people?

Lol, I am definitely socially awkward in general but over the years I seem to care less and less about it.
My issue is more thant I have to make the obvious comments though and often find that I say things I shouldn't to my local vicar that I shouldn't. I know him quite well but still I think I need a gag at times....
