AIBU to take 6 children into a doctors appointment with me today rather than wait until tomorrow?

I have had a sore throats and temp for a week. I know it's normally just leave it see if it gets better but although the temp is better the throat is so much worse. My tonsils join together in the middle in a sort of giant monotonsil.

Last year I had the same and ended up in hospital with I've antibiotics etc. Drinking and even swallowing. My own spit is hard now. BUT I don't see any pus etc which makes me think it's prob only a virus.

Anyway I have 6 children and no one to look after them after a night of gagging on my own tonsils I called the gp (feeing guilty about "just a sore throat"). And she told me to come in today.

I feel terribly bad that I am going to fill the tiny doctors with 6 young children. Last time I did that a lot of the other patients gave me daggers even though I had them standing against a wall rather than taking up the seats.

If I wait until tomorrow dh can take he day off and I can go alone.

I just keep having. Flashbacks to a and e oxygen and drips from last year!

Go in. It's only for 15 mins max, isn't it? Perhaps the older children could wait in waiting room?

If the GP wants you in today then go today. As long as your kids aren't running riot around the waiting room then ignore anyone drawing you looks.

If it makes you feel better I got daggers from a couple of people at the GP yesterday for having 3 kids with me even though two of them had appointments!

Don't risk landing yourself in hospital again because of someone else's judgemental look.

Let other patients have seats (like you did before) and just get through it.

Last time we were there we were stood there for an hour waiting maybe it won't be so bad this time. I think I will go I just have this guilt at taking up room

Yanbu if you need to go in then go in. However make sure that your kids aren't running around and being a nuisance. Take stuff to keep them quietly entertained.

Go and get seen, if you do need oral antibiotics then the sooner you start them the faster you'll feel better and the higher chance you'll have of avoiding IV antibiotics.

If anyone gives you daggers for having children who are sitting still and not taking up seats then give them daggers back. I bet they'd be the same people giving you daggers if you left them home alone.

It's not ideal, but I would get seen today, even if it means taking them.

Do you have a friend who could watch even some of them for an hour?

I think the main thing is to not have them interrupting the consultation so take snacks, activities etc so the doctor can assess you without interruption.

Go. You need to get seen. There's usually a play table or area in a waiting room isn't there?

They can play with that while waiting and the appointment itself will just be a few mins.

If the GP told you to go in today you should go. Filling the doctors with small children is not going to do anyone any harm.

The kids don't run around they are actually (god knows how because everyone tells me im soft) really well behaved in public. I will put them all in matching plaits (5 red headed little girls plus a boy) that seems to placate people for some reasson.

Your health comes before other people's annoyance even if they do run wild!

Not ideal but screw them, you could end up in hospital! Not worth sparing some randoms a few minutes of annoying kids (I am sure your kids are lovely btw!)

Just keep them quiet and you'll be fine, unless they are causing chaos around poorly people, there's no problem. You're not taking up space.

You have 6 kids and it is difficult to get them minded. No problem, bring them. And assuming they can behave themselves to an acceptable level, you have absolutely nothing to apologise for or be embarrassed about.

If you have a choice of appointments take the earliest so there is least chance of them running late

Definitely go with those symptoms. I take two dc and that's bad enough but they are ok with a comic or an iPod.

You have the same as me 5 girls and a boy.
Nearly all of mine are grumpy teenagers now but I used to have to often take them to the docs with me (used to get strep throat a lot) and I didn't care what people thought as long as they are well behaved and not disturbing others it's nobody's business.

Anyway. Go, take them, and if anyone gives you daggers, give them right back. I would only be irritated by kids in the waiting room if they were running around causing havoc, but sounds like yours won't.

I exagerate the baby has no hair - just a little ginger fluff prob can't plait that- so 4 plaits.

I am going to start picking my way through the devastation that is my house to find clean clothes for everyone (notva great week!)

If swallowing is hard then you need to see a doctor today. Honestly, I'm just impressed you can take care of six kids while sick! Dress them up in matching Von Trap type outfits. That'll look adorable.
