AIBU to take 6 children into a doctors appointment with me today rather than wait until tomorrow?

I have had a sore throats and temp for a week. I know it's normally just leave it see if it gets better but although the temp is better the throat is so much worse. My tonsils join together in the middle in a sort of giant monotonsil.

Last year I had the same and ended up in hospital with I've antibiotics etc. Drinking and even swallowing. My own spit is hard now. BUT I don't see any pus etc which makes me think it's prob only a virus.

Anyway I have 6 children and no one to look after them after a night of gagging on my own tonsils I called the gp (feeing guilty about "just a sore throat"). And she told me to come in today.

I feel terribly bad that I am going to fill the tiny doctors with 6 young children. Last time I did that a lot of the other patients gave me daggers even though I had them standing against a wall rather than taking up the seats.

If I wait until tomorrow dh can take he day off and I can go alone.

I just keep having. Flashbacks to a and e oxygen and drips from last year!

Aibu to fill the surgery with children for the sake of a non pus filled just swollen throat?

As an example when my youngest was born my dh had taken all apart from 12 year old and newborn to soft play . I left my newborn sleeping in the pram and when I came down my older dd was crouching in the porch holding newborn dd and crying because I had left them "alone".

Oh, train, I completely get that. My eldest has AS and at 20 is perhaps more emotionally 14 or so. I couldn't have made her responsible for her younger siblings then or now.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/10/2016 12:13

has anyone said that you should not have had so many children if you can not manange simple things yet? there is usually one that pops up saying something like that. Grin

(jealous of your lovely well behaved family and in awe of getting them out when you are ill.)

good luck with your appointment, hope you feel better soon.

and good luck with the asd process for dd1

I'm just sad that you feel you need approval. Society can be judgmental, but those that judge tend to be those with little or no empathy. So screw them the way they probably screw over everyone around them! Your health is way more important. Leaving 6 kids at home unsupervised may be something society can tutt at, but taking them all with you for a much needed appointment with your GP, nobody can turn their nose up at you for that. I find no matter who we are, doctors waiting rooms are so bloody boring that looking at other people is the only way of passing the time. Don't let it bother you. Feel better soon. 6 kids. You're clearly superwoman. Two has proved more than enough for me!!! x

Blackedeyed not on this thread but plenty of times in real life - for example when I couldn't simultaneously be in two places at once Grin. I'm failing as a mother.

Tbh I'm not even sure we are in a process yet!
It has just very "gently" been suggested to us as something to think about since she started at secondary school this year! So I'm not even sure what the next steps are tbh!

what else can you do? You can't miss an appointment you need because of it. My three were terrors at the dentist yesterday (well, mainly 1 - the toddler, surprise, surprise) and I couldn't look anyone else in the eye. Still here to tell the tale!

Hope you feel better soon.

sexyfish · 27/10/2016 12:22

Absolutely not being unreasonable.
You need to go to the GP and there is no one else to look after the children. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have flexible partners/ willing/ able family.
I have frequently had to take my 4 children when it would have been ideal to have left them with someone else. it just has to be done sometimes!

felloveraplastictrain · 27/10/2016 12:24

Ok the plus side I am working my way through some truly awful Netflix films (which I secretly love). So far we have watched "left behind" and "knowing".
My ds is home educated and I like to think that showing him these films is educational as it saves him making poor film choices in the future Grin

I'm a GP i see no issue with this at all. You need to be seen, you bring the kids. It's fine :)

Please though if there are toddlers either keep them in a pram or ask the older ones to keep an eye. It is very hard to concentrate on you if your child is climbing the couch, poking the fridge buttons or jumping on the scales and no attempts are made to keep them safe or stop them damaging things. That's my only concern with children in consultation.

I know you wouldn't but honestly I've had people think I can give them a high quality service with kids on heelys and scooters mucking about even- I know the floor is good for it but it is not appropriate!

FurryLittleTwerp · 27/10/2016 13:05

"one is dressed as a zombie" - that made me laugh

I'm hoping it's one of your daughters not your son Grin

Ok just to update apparently I have quinsy whatever that is so I am on the way into hospital apparently my heart is too fast (145) so she's worried about infection or something .

I'm feeling a little sorry for myself tbh

OP posts:
SloanePeterson · 27/10/2016 14:58

Look after yourself x prepare for a few days stay (I know that's not what you want to hear) I had a suspected quinsey many years ago and the lancing of my tonsils isn't something I'll forget in a hurry Shock once you get your drip and some antibiotics you'll start to feel much more human x have someone bring you in some earplugs if possible, hospitals will be noisy, even if you are used to 6 dc!

rewardformissingmojo · 27/10/2016 15:00

Flowers thank goodness your DH came home early! Hope you feel better soon.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 27/10/2016 15:01

Oh, no, OP! You poor bugger! 'Quinsy' sounds like some Victorian malaise! Jesus. Oh bless you - you have been even more ill than you have let on! Have you contacted DH? Do hope you're home soon.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 27/10/2016 15:03

Just Googled it. Sounds pretty damned unpleasant. Wow. You really are a supermum for having this and coping thus far. The very best of luck and love to you Flowers

IminaPickle · 27/10/2016 15:09
Flowers
felloveraplastictrain · 27/10/2016 15:10

Apparently it's what I had last time (who knew) and she said once I'm better come in and try to figure out why I keep getting so ill Blush

OP posts:
felloveraplastictrain · 27/10/2016 15:15

Sloane did you just use the word "lancing" Shock

OP posts:
SloanePeterson · 27/10/2016 15:16

If you've had it before, it's likely they'll take your tonsils out. I'd suffered hideous tonsillitis for years and head refused, I finally had them out at 23 following the quinsey incident. You must be Well Hard to have even considered plodding on til tomorrow to get seen, I ended up calling an ambulance as I couldn't breathe through my swollen throat. That was the day I learned what a suppository was BlushShock

felloveraplastictrain · 27/10/2016 15:17

SIL is giving me a lift up so I will be on my way soon Haloween Sad

OP posts:
SloanePeterson · 27/10/2016 15:18

Sorry, yeah, lancing. I thought you'd be better off prepared. I went from a & e into a general ward and they squirrelled me into a supply cupboard out of earshot of other patients, and had one poor sod hold my head still while the other tried to drain my throat. I promise you the thought of it was much worse than the reality. I'm not helping am I...

felloveraplastictrain · 27/10/2016 15:19

I think I just thought I was being a wuss Blush

OP posts:
felloveraplastictrain · 27/10/2016 15:20

Yes the gp said I was looking at my tonsils out

OP posts:
SloanePeterson · 27/10/2016 15:22

I thought they'd do my tonsils while I was in hospital but I had about a 9 month wait before the op itself. If you're heading in in a bit, please do pack yourself a proper bag. I recently went into hospital as an emergency (I don't make a habit out of it, I promise Blush) and had nothing with me. Phone charger and money for food would have been useful. Some lucozade, a book, change of clothes, toiletries. Anything to make you feel a little less grotty x

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 27/10/2016 15:23

Hardly a wuss, OP!
