To not wear clean clothes everyday

Happyhippy45 · 10/10/2016 16:47

Clothes are not "dirty," they don't smell and I don't want to wash them. I hang them up on a peg/chair to air and wear another couple of times over the course of the week.
DH doesn't understand this and thinks it's a bit minky.
Talking about tops, jeans etc......not pants and socks. Bras are a whole nother subject.

I wear clothes and wash them as and when needed, you can certainly tell with certain tops if they have sweat stains/smells.

Bras and underwear wear twice for bra, once for underwear.

I appreciate the needs of those who want to wash after every use but the eco version is far better, line drying etc than a tumble dryer.

brasty · 11/10/2016 13:43

If you do a very physical job, or work in a very dirty or hot environment, changing your clothes every day makes sense. I always wash the clothes I play sport in, after 1 wear, because I am sweaty. But most people are simply sitting at desks, on the sofa and walking about a bit.

Sammyislost · 11/10/2016 13:45

Underwear gets washed every day, but trousers and t-shirts get worn for 2 days if possible, and jumpers for a bit longer....I wear my bras for at least a week! Although, If the kids go to a soft play, farm etc, i'd wash all their clothes that night.

SparklesandBangs · 11/10/2016 13:45

I haven't got time to ready the whole thread as I need to get back to work.....however I'm from the wash your clothes when they need it school of thought.

Under garments - daily/1 wear max (sometimes 2 changes per day)
Tops - usually 1 wear if easy to wash/dry, the more delicate ones usually go at least 2 washes.
Skirts - usually 5 wears, was more when they were dry clean
Trousers - 2-4 wears
Jeans - until they walk to the washing machine
Jackets and Knitwear - as infrequently as possible
Pilates clothes - every session

And just for the record, I shower every morning and change my bed weekly/10 days.

SuperFlyHigh · 11/10/2016 13:52

oh, gym and yoga clothes wash every session.

I must admit sometimes with jumpers I have forgotten they've got a bit mucky - even jeans - as soon as a bit of dirt there or the sniff test then they get bunged it. It is silly as someone else said to wear a dress once then back in wardrobe then wash again (think they said).

Chopstick17 · 11/10/2016 13:55

That's normal apart from underwear and socks and anything that's actually dirty/sweaty. YANBU

BestZebbie · 11/10/2016 13:55

Roseanne:
OK, longer than 100 years ago, but for hundreds of years in the middle of the 1000s UK people didn't wash their bodies or their outer layer of clothes very often at all, but always worn a full layer of natural fibre clothing (often including long sleeves and long legs) against the body and changed/washed that as often as they could - frequently everyday. People have experimented with this to see what it would have been like, and it isn't anything like as bad as you might think: most sweat etc gets absorbed by the underwear and removed (and there is a lot more clothing between the body and onlookers than in a t-shirt and jeggings!) and hair isn't clean by modern standards but it doesn't just keep getting greasier either, it levels out at a stable state after a while.

puzzledbyadream · 11/10/2016 14:05

I have a pretty sedentary job so I really do only wash clothes if they are dirty or smelly. This obviously doesn't include underwear and socks but I wear bras and tights for about a week at a time, and also tops and vest tops are only when they get smelly.

I really don't think I smell, I think if I did a partner would have commented on it by now. I do drop things down myself a lot though so things do get washed.

My partner washes and irons his shirts after one wear. Genuinely can't work out why!

PoohBearsHole · 11/10/2016 14:07

I worked with someone once who didn't use a tumble drier, she constantly smelt of wee as her clothes wouldn't dry quickly and they sort of festered.

I don't want to smell like wee when I'm not an old lady, and not being at home to rush the washing in off the line if it is raining makes drying clothes in more temperamental months quite tricky.

Tumble driers in those situations rock.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 11/10/2016 14:10

Another one who washes underwear incl. socks after 1 wear but everything else based on the smell and appearance. In warm weather that might mean t-shirts get one wear only. I don't generally spend much time pressed up against other people.

Salmotrutta · 11/10/2016 14:11

"I don't want to smell of wee when I'm not an d lady"

Yeah, because obviously old ladies always smell of wee Hmm

Salmotrutta · 11/10/2016 14:12

old lady!!

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 11/10/2016 14:15

puzzledbyadream:

Tell me this is not the case. If it is, that is revolting IMO:

"...tights for about a week..."

Randomer234 · 11/10/2016 14:26

All my work clothes get washed after one wear as I'm a carer and underwear and socks. Everything else gets checked over at the end of the day and hung up if ok ready to wear again. Dh changes his shirt everyday as he sits on a hot sweaty train and walks quite a bit for work. Ds gets very mucky very quickly so his stuff generally gets washed everyday. Bed sheets once a week. We shower every day/ every other day here.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/10/2016 14:44

I wash everything that has been directly next to pits or bits or feet after every wear. That includes bras which are right next to my pits

Washing a bra every day is anal unless you have breasts that ooze sweat

My breasts don't ooze sweat as you so kindly put it, but my armpits sometimes do.

Sunshineonacloudyday · 11/10/2016 14:48

I tell my daughter to change her shirt everyday because she sweats a lot. Maybe your dh was like that from young some kids do sweat.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/10/2016 15:01

Are you saying anyone who doesn't tumble dry their clothes smells of wee?! I never tumble dry clothes (apart from my dressing gown) and definitely don't smell of wee. What a ridiculous comment!

Ok..I am wearing a bra. Its a george one. I bought it over a year ago for sure as moved to this house with it and I have been here 13 months now..It may have been washed once or twice, three times at a push.
I'm such a minger in bra terms lol

BitOutOfPractice · 11/10/2016 15:04

puzzledbyadream I don't understand your logic at all.You wash socks every day but not tights? And you wear them for a week - and they've been next to your crotch as well, like pants are. Sorry but that really is a bit minging

BitOutOfPractice · 11/10/2016 15:05

Sorry Lady but I bet that bra smells Sad

faffingturtle · 11/10/2016 15:07

This is silly. We don't all sweat the same / in the same places.
None of my family have stinky feet, ever. For us , we could go all week in the same pair of socks. We don't , and my washing basket is proof of that however Grin
Anyway, we don't have any idea of how we all smell - so l really don't think we can judge.

ChickenSalad · 11/10/2016 15:09

It is silly as someone else said to wear a dress once then back in wardrobe then wash again (think they said).

I wear a dress once, back in wardrobe, wear it a further time the following week then wash it. Only because I have the same 4 dresses I wear to work each week but try not to wear the same dress on consecutive days. But with my system still get to wear each one twice before washing it.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/10/2016 15:12

Going back to the running costs of a tumble drier, according to the link it costs 45p for an hour. That's pretty cheap imo as I can do 3 loads of washing in an hour in my drier and there's definitely some driers that are even more economical.

That bra must be rank !!!Shock

LadyCinderelephant · 11/10/2016 15:13

I dont think it does..
Will get OH to sniff it later..hes honest and will tell me if it does, hes never mentioned it and I am as sure as can be that he would have if it was noticeable
