To not wear clean clothes everyday

Happyhippy45 · 10/10/2016 16:47

Clothes are not "dirty," they don't smell and I don't want to wash them. I hang them up on a peg/chair to air and wear another couple of times over the course of the week.
DH doesn't understand this and thinks it's a bit minky.
Talking about tops, jeans etc......not pants and socks. Bras are a whole nother subject.

I wear Gap cozy leggings around the house and I have 1x clear pair a day. They get terribly gross with cooking & cleaning.

Same for t-shirts and underwear.

Everything else I wear 2-3-4 times.

MuseumOfCurry · 11/10/2016 12:08

Oh well in for a flaming. Yes everything including jackets daily

You wash your jackets daily? Why?

hollinhurst84 · 11/10/2016 12:14

I definitely don't wash everything daily. One pair of work uniform trousers so I wear them for 3/4 days before washing as no time to wash and dry them in between work!
Riding and gym stuff washed every time except for breeches which can usually do two wears

Artandco · 11/10/2016 12:24

I can't imagine washing a jacket daily? Mine are thick wool and would need to be dry cleaned. They get washed every end of winter, and extra if they happen to be dirty from something. So maybe 2-3 times a year

maddiemookins16mum · 11/10/2016 12:26

I seem to be like most people here on average, apart from the bra thing. I could never wear a bra the next day I'd had on the previous day (all day, from 5.30 until 8pm when I sometimes get home). That said, I'm working from home today (having my lunch break now 😊), and am brafree today (luckily I'm small breasted so it's not uncomfortable). I have 7 bras (and a couple of grotty, lazing around the house ones). Not wearing a clean bra everyday is the same to me as not putting on clean knickers.

StandardPoodle · 11/10/2016 12:28

Socks and knickers - every day. Jeans can go several days. Tops - smell test. The only day when everything I stand up in is automatically washed is the day I volunteer for a charity involving animals - after several hours mucking out/grooming etc I'm aware I need a shower and clean clothes!

Dominithecat · 11/10/2016 12:29

You wash your jackets daily? Why?

Because i do a physical job in a dusty environment. If I am wearing a jacket it gets dirty. I haven't even worn one til this last week as its been so warm. But now it's cooled down and my jackets are being worn again. I have 5 for work and they dry quick. They range from a fiver from a market to old regattas.but they all dry quick

maddiemookins16mum · 11/10/2016 12:37

My DP is like you Domini, wears fleecey type jackets, out and about all day, even dealing with chickens at some points of the day, the jacket and wirk trousers and top go in the wash basket daily. They dry (on our line or on a hanger in the spare bedroom in no time).
I'd love a tumble dryer, but have always put it off due to expense. I'm one of those who studies weather forecasts (Countryfile) even in the middle of winter to plan on what day of the week I'm likely to get washing dry outside.

3Eggses · 11/10/2016 12:40

Trousers and jeans typically get two wears.
Underwear, tops and cardigans are single use (hot country).
Bras usually two wears.
Underwear, socks and gym wear is single use except running shorts which i will wear twice (my top absorbs all the sweat).
Jumpers I rarely wear, but assuming i'm naked underneath they are single use.
Coats washed at end of short winter season or if they've been travelling in luggage.

Ohdearducks · 11/10/2016 13:02

Clean underwear daily if other clothes don't stink I wear again, unless I've proper sweated something, then it goes in the wash.

stealthsquiggle · 11/10/2016 13:05

It's all about what smells you are used to.

I seem to react really strongly to febreze or anything related, including lots of laundry detergents. So things washed in Persil non-bio smell "clean" to me - things washed in most other detergents stink. To me. I am sure the opposite is true for others.

I find myself to be very smelly, so wash almost everything after one wear. DH is not so smelly and will recycle most items of clothing (not pants or socks, or not often (bleugh)) for a few wears. The chances of my DC not having spilt something at some point in the day are so small that the default is that everything goes in the wash, but that is starting to change.

LOL at Tumble drier wars. We have one, I do use it, but also use washing line and/or heated aired too.

Socks and underwear go in the wash after one day, but I usually wear jeans a few times before washing. With tops, I'll change them daily if I've got sweaty or get food on them, but otherwise wear them for a couple of days. Pyjamas I'd wear for about 4-5 days.

ScaredFuture99 · 11/10/2016 13:13

Surprised at some of those answers.

Seeing that MN is THE place where towels are washed everyday, and peole are worried about not having pants/bottom pj in bed in case of poo particules going on the bedsheets etc, I would have thought many more people would have washed their clothes after one wear, ie after going out, taking the train and generally using the same 'facilities' as other people who will probably to have washed their hands, walked in dog poo and whatever else can happen.

As far as I am concerned, clothes that are in direct contact with the skin (camisole tops, Tshirts and yes trousers etc..) should be changed daily.
I have more issue with skirts etc... That are only dry cleaning only. I try to avoid those but the few I have do get a longer wear.
Also, if I'm honest, clothes do not look so great after a couple of wear. They are starting to have creases all over, do not hold as well and just that makes a difference on how it looks iyswim.

hiccupgirl · 11/10/2016 13:14

Like most people on here knickers/pants and socks are changed daily. Bras after 3-4 days, tops get the sniff test but usually manage 2 wears at least and jeans can do 4 days normally. Obviously if I'm gardening, spill something on myself or it's a hot day then I put everything in the wash that needs it.

I couldn't keep up with the washing and drying if everything was washed after just 1 wear. DS's clothes normally are still because he always gets something down them and that generated plenty over a week.

brasty · 11/10/2016 13:15

My parents wash all their clothes, every day, with the exception of jumpers. They get worn two or three times before being washed. Absolute madness.

For me, underwear gets changed every day, except bras which are 1-2 days. Trousers from 2 - 4 days depending on heat and what I am doing. T shirts every 2 days except when it is hot, when it is every day. Tops 1-3 days depending on how hot it is. Jumpers, when they need it. Often jumpers and cardigans are not directly touching your body, so don't get sweaty anyway.

ChickenSalad · 11/10/2016 13:18

I wear a work dress for one day, hang it up in the wardrobe, wear it next week for one day, then wash it. Jeans and casual clothes at home I wear as long as I can get away with it.

They did a test of a woman's bra after just one day's wear and it was covered in bacteria, especially under the arms and along the back parts.

So what though? Bacteria are everywhere.

Puppymouse · 11/10/2016 13:20

I wear joggers and hoodies a few times as usually only have them on after work for an evening at home but everything else gets worn once. To be fair four days a week I live in jodhpurs and sweatshirts which get covered in horse and crap.

Threepineapples · 11/10/2016 13:20

I uphold the family tradition of "spongeing off" wherever possible. I wash clothes that are visibly dirty, smell, or in the case of coats or jumpers, to give them an occasional freshen up.

No rules apart from pants, which only get one wear.

Lazyafternoon · 11/10/2016 13:26

What an absolute waste of water, electricity and damage to the environment to wash everything every day!

Pants & socks everyday.
Tops - usually everyday. I'm a SAHM to a toddler and always seem to have food, snot, paint or something on them by end of the day.
Jeans - not until they are actually grubby. So anything from 10mins to a weeks wear, depending how lucky I am ;-)
Leggings - once or twice. I tend to only wear them round the house when doing cleaning etc so get grubby quicker.
Bras... well I would wash them every 2-3 days I think ideally. But I have massive boobs and having recently lost weight as well I only have 2 that actually fit and as they are hideously expensive for the only make/model that I find comfortable, I can't afford any more until I'm sure my weight is stable. So they get worn for a good few days or until they smell!

Flyingbellycopters · 11/10/2016 13:33

YANBU. same as you. And jeans should be washed as little as possible to keep them looking new and in shape. Same with kids. On occasions that clothes are clean I get mad if they out straight into washing basket. Especially after school clothes they are in just for couple hours.

RoseanneDownton · 11/10/2016 13:37

Gosh, and to think that 100 or so years ago people wore clothes for months before washing them!

Shawser78 · 11/10/2016 13:38

Are you in Kuwait inthedessert?
