To not wear clean clothes everyday

Happyhippy45 · 10/10/2016 16:47

Clothes are not "dirty," they don't smell and I don't want to wash them. I hang them up on a peg/chair to air and wear another couple of times over the course of the week.
DH doesn't understand this and thinks it's a bit minky.
Talking about tops, jeans etc......not pants and socks. Bras are a whole nother subject.

Tights for a week!!!! My tights smell slightly of wotsits by the end of the day! (the foot bit that is 😳).

PoohBearsHole · 11/10/2016 15:31

Not saying everyone who doesn't have a td smells of wee, saying she did.

It wasn't pleasant for everyone around her, she obviously didn't notice which can be the problem for some people - not smelling themselves.

The smelling of wee like an old lady was a flippant comment - love that that's been picked up as inflammatory but its ok to blame one poster for the complete future destruction of environment because she "dares" to use her tumble drier Hmm the complete outrage is hilarious to be honest.

Badders123 · 11/10/2016 15:49

I wear jeans a few times if they aren't dirty
But everything else is clean everyday
TBH just because you can't smell your own smell, dozens too mean others can't!
I change pjs every 2/3 nights - so do the DC

minipie · 11/10/2016 16:08

Another vote for pants and close t-shirts once, and trousers and outer layers if they are unmarked and pass a sniff test.

Yep me too

Socks and tights definitely changed daily too

interstellarcloudofdust · 11/10/2016 16:12

Do people really wear a clean bra every day? I don't own enough for a clean one everyday, and go a few -weeks- days before I put my old faithful in the wash - even then its an overnight jobby ready for the next day

Yes many people wear a clean bra every day. I have about 10 bras and they go in the wash after each wear. I couldn't manage with just one. What if it was still wet in the morning?

I know my clothes are not filthy after one wear but I enjoy putting clean clothes on every day. It feels nicer than putting on clothes that have been worn before. And I can't see the point of having a shower in the morning and not putting clean clothes on.

0pti0na1 · 11/10/2016 16:17

I can't stand the smell of Febreze, even though it's supposed to not smell Confused

MrsHathaway · 11/10/2016 16:17

Like most people on this thread, anything with visible marks that won't quickly baby wipe off, anything damp with sweat, or anything that fails the sniff test goes in the wash. We have a good machine (A+ energy rating) with a quick but efficient cycle.

The sniff test definitely works and we definitely don't smell. If your clothes still smell of Lenor when you take them off, they couldn't possibly be humming of BO, could they?

frenchfancy · 11/10/2016 16:19

Does no one else get changed through the day for task appropriate clothing? If I washed everything after it was worn I would be washing 3 full outfits every day. Today for example I had business type clothes on until about 11am, then changed for gardening type clothes, then changed again into comfortable clothes once gardening was finished. I would be crazy to wash the business outfit when it was only worn for a couple of hours, the gardening jeans and jumper will be worn again tomorrow and the comfortable clothes haven't been out of the house.

Pants and socks every day religiously, t-shirts usually every day (or after 2 half days).

BitOutOfPractice · 11/10/2016 16:38

frenchfancy I am in my third of four outfits today (5 if you count PJs)

  1. slobby tracky bottoms etc for school run (note - I don't get out of the car!)
  2. Business smart for quick visit to client
  3. gym gear
  4. clothes I'll change into after shower at gym

I usually change at least once tbh

MrsHathaway · 11/10/2016 16:53

I only really have exercise and normal, so many/most days I wear the same all day.

I also have the kind of skin that screams if you wash it too much, so you're likely to encounter me on a day I haven't showered.

I'd rather put clean clothes on a dirty body than vice versa. It feels horrible putting worn clothes back on a freshly showered body.

Most of the smell of a person is the sweaty bacteria collecting on clothes. You could shower three times a day but if you were putting cunty jeans back on you'd reek.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/10/2016 17:02

Febreeze smells vile imo!

TheDeskIsMyHome · 11/10/2016 17:03

I change every day - some trousers or items which have not touched the skin (cardigan over top) last longer, but otherwise they are washed - have absorbed sweat and need a wash

brasty · 11/10/2016 17:14

Honestly if it isn't really hot and you are not doing hard physical work, then how much do you really sweat? And I smell my clothes before putting them on on the morning much to DPs amusement.

brasty · 11/10/2016 17:18

I know people can't always tell if they smell. But if you get up in the morning, have a shower, then smell your clothes before putting them on, you can tell if they smell or not.

Bumptittybump · 11/10/2016 17:19

Reminds me of one of my favourite song lyrics ever - verse about being late for the school run and not finding any clean clothes "I'll just febreeze them, and hope nobody sees them" - Dirty Clothes by Megson

PollyPerky · 11/10/2016 17:19

I'm with French. I can easily wear 3 or 4 sets of clothes in a day: housework clothes, gardening clothes, office clothes, shopping clothes, sports clothes, out for lunch clothes....

3 outfits in a day is normal for me and I'm buggered if they are being washed after being worn for a couple of hours or half a day.

What about natural fibres? surely no one washes or dry cleans wool skirts, jackets etc after one wear?

Sallystyle · 11/10/2016 17:29

I wash things when they are dirty or smelly. I get at least two days wear out of my clothes.

I have lots of children, my tumble is on 6 days out of 7 and it would be horrendous if I washed clothes after one wear.

Washing clothes that don't smell or aren't dirty is ridiculous.

frenchfancy · 11/10/2016 17:38

Pleased to know I'm not the only one with multiple outfits in a day.

This thread did remind me to go and put my washing on though - so thanks for that.

user1474781546 · 11/10/2016 17:42

Good point Frenchfancy.

Today I too have worn

  1. PJs
  2. Comfy trousers and t shirt as I had a breast screening appointment
  3. Gym clothes.
  4. Jeans, shirt, cardigan to visit the bank, post office and shopping.
  5. This evening jogging bottoms and sweatshirt
  6. Back to PJs for bed.

Should I be washing all these clothes?

NickyEds · 11/10/2016 17:49

Only jeans, coats, my pjs (not the kids, they get fresh ones every night) and bras get worn more than once. Jeans I often only get away with 2 wears before some snot/weetabix/milk gets on them. The kids coats need doing every 2-3 days too. I do around 11-12 loads of laundry a week which dp thinks is ridiculous.

Thissideof40 · 11/10/2016 18:39

I change my clothes every day but don't wash them after one wear unless they're a bit sweaty or I've spilt something on them. What's the point? It's just creating extra unnecessary washing when they're perfectly fine to wear again before another wash.

Thissideof40 · 11/10/2016 18:42

Nickyeds 11-12 loads? I sound quiite skanky when I say I only do about 3-4 loads a week and that includes uniforms and rugby kits.

Artandco · 11/10/2016 18:50

12 loads is a lot - we do about 4, between 4 of us.

Gabilan · 11/10/2016 18:54

but its ok to blame one poster for the complete future destruction of environment because she "dares" to use her tumble drier the complete outrage is hilarious to be honest

She wasn't blamed for the complete destruction of the environment but it was pointed out to her that we are all stuffing up the environment and that excessive use of things like tumble dryers doesn't help. Further, it wasn't "daring" to use it - it was washing everything after one wear routinely and then tumble drying pretty much everything, regardless of any alternatives, simply because she liked the feel of tumble dried clothes. But I guess careful arguments about important issues aren't as much fun as needless exaggeration.
