To not wear clean clothes everyday

Happyhippy45 · 10/10/2016 16:47

Clothes are not "dirty," they don't smell and I don't want to wash them. I hang them up on a peg/chair to air and wear another couple of times over the course of the week.
DH doesn't understand this and thinks it's a bit minky.
Talking about tops, jeans etc......not pants and socks. Bras are a whole nother subject.

I think if you have a smart meter you should see you much they cost. I was shocked when I saw how much mine used, and I don't really use it any more. It is literally throwing money away if there are other ways of drying things

Sugarandsalt · 11/10/2016 08:50

I only have a washer dryer which is fairly useless and takes forever to dry things. Really only use it to finish off DDs stuff/underwear.

Famalam13 · 11/10/2016 09:06

I used to wear jeans and jumpers more than once but now have a baby who invariably covers my clothes in some sort of bodily fluid so everything has to be washed after every wear. So much washing :(

RollingWithIt · 11/10/2016 09:11

Febreeze!

No your doing it wrong, fabric softener mixed with water in a spray bottle.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 11/10/2016 09:14

I change pants and socks every day. Other garments on an ad hoc basis, maybe two days, maybe three. In the winter I wear leggings every day without knickers because they look so much better and change them daily - well, they're underwear, basically. I have dozens of pairs and ditch them as soon as they show their age. I keep myself very clean with a really scrubby bath and hair wash every morning.

StarlingMurmuration · 11/10/2016 09:25

DP puts his tops in the wash after one wear, but he's a bit sweaty, especially in summer. I wear things twice, unless they smell after the first wear (very occasionally). I wash all of DS's things after one wear because he tends to chuck food down himself (only 23 months).

Pants obviously washed after one wear! We both shower every day.

Wayfarer, let DD say something in front of her. I did this to my gran at about that age (obviously without meaning to cause offense) and she did improve a bit. Out of the mouths of babes etc.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 11/10/2016 09:27

People should be careful with jeans. I've been sitting down in a crowded pub or cafe and had women slip by me (crotch at my chest level) and a couple have smelled really cunty. Made me much more careful.

Socks are very much dependent on the individual. One of my dc has smelly feet and has to change every day, if not twice. His brother just has normally smelly ones. My feet hardly smell at all.

I hadn't thought about where you live and work. I used to live and work in London and you get so much dirtier there. I live in the country now and work from home which accounts for my clothes lasting so much longer. I spend far less on them too.

SaucyJack · 11/10/2016 09:34

"a couple have smelled really cunty"

Hahaha!

That's the new ad campaign for Lenor right there.

SleepFreeZone · 11/10/2016 09:34

Pmsl at cunty crotch Grin

SleepFreeZone · 11/10/2016 09:35

How bad must people's crotchs smelt in the days before washing machines and detergent! 🙈

Happyhippy45 · 11/10/2016 09:36

"Cunty crotch" 😂😂😂😂

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 11/10/2016 09:53

That's what I call it. Was wondering if there was a more delicate way of saying cunty? Any thoughts? Grin

SpookyPotato · 11/10/2016 10:01

Thankyou Gwen I was starting to feel grim over here Grin Washing a bra every day is anal unless you have breasts that ooze sweat..

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/10/2016 10:09

Pretty much everything for day-wear gets washed daily here, except things like coats and jackets, and jeans might go two wears. That said, I change into "lounge wear" as soon as I get in from work in the evening, and tend to wear the same super-sexy combo for a few nights on the trot - I then put on a nightie for bed.

SleepFreeZone · 11/10/2016 10:12

DP wears shirts twice, he alternates them so you wouldn't know. I initially thought that was gross but he has an office job with no exertion and isn't a sweaty type. It also saves me ironing so I am grateful!

2kids2dogsnosense · 11/10/2016 10:29

Socks and knickers - every day. Bras every 2/3 wears (don't wear the same one two day running - like to give it some airing time). Everything else, unless I've been hideously sweaty - in summer I often change everything halfway through the day - gets the sniff test. TBH, since smoking bans came in for workplaces, cafes etc, my clothes are fresh much longer - I used to hate stinking of somebody else's fags.

CheerfulYank · 11/10/2016 10:36

No, River, it's allowed where I am :) Would be highly impractical many months out of the year given the weather though.

Psyhke · 11/10/2016 10:39

Everything gets washed daily except jeans two days. I would feel gross putting on clothes I'd worn the day before after having a shower and I know I sweat quite easily despite using deoderant.

The way I've been raised, dm was always paranoid about cleanliness and smelling, I am a bit too. Not excessive but conscious of it and I notice smells off other peoples clothes.

We don't have water meters here.

Artandco · 11/10/2016 11:11

We air dry most things, and in a flat so done indoors. It's drys quick whilst we are out at work, and we leave the windows open so it doesn't make the house damp. We do have a dryer, but mainly use for bedding as too large to hang around.
Most of our winter clothes are wool also so can't go in the dryer anyway

user1474781546 · 11/10/2016 11:13

Everythinh Psyhke?

I have a thick cashmere coat. Is that something you would clean after every wear?

flanjabelle · 11/10/2016 11:18

Tops, dresses, knickers and socks/tights/leggings once and then in the wash. Trousers, jumpers and bras a few times before washing.

Psyhke · 11/10/2016 11:40

Not coats user, should have specified that. I live in a part of the world where it seemingly does nothing but rain. They get regular washes from that Grin

Idratherbeaunicorn · 11/10/2016 11:51

Do people really wear a clean bra every day?
I don't own enough for a clean one everyday, and go a few -weeks- days before I put my old faithful in the wash - even then its an overnight jobby ready for the next day! Blush

Dominithecat · 11/10/2016 11:55

Oh well in for a flaming. Yes everything including jackets daily. But I live in cheap joggers and work T-shirts. Jackets are those fleecy ones that take about 6 minutes to dry on the line even in winter. Oh and trainers also go in washer not daily but in any given week a pair will be drying somewhere.
And the biggest sin a dryer, ooh, that gets used whenever i need it. Mostly in winter but still if its a crap summer then I use it. I have a physical job and two big dogs that like to roll in mud then brush past me 😃

SpookyPotato · 11/10/2016 12:01

I think it does depend on lifestyle and level of sweatiness! I'm a SAHM and don't move around at a fast pace so clothes don't get smelly. But if you have a busy job, work outdoors, have muddy pets, go on the tube every day etc then I can see why your tops and trousers would feel gross.
