Obviously I know you eat it (well the baby will, I will not they're disgusting)

But I mean, what do I do with it? How do I get in? Do I peel it? Just hack straight into it? And then how do I get the lovely neat little slices to be ... Well lovely and neat?

I do have real things going on in my life too I swear Grin

Cut it sort of like how you would a mango.

Avocado has gone down so well with both my girls. Gave it to my now 6 year old when she was a baby however she wont go near it now !!! My 8 month old loves avocado as much as her sister did. Mashed with either pureed apple or pear or banana. Such a superfood for babies. Creamy texture, easy to eat. Cut in half, twist to seperate, scoop out flesh (obviously take stone out) & mash.

FleurThomas · 11/10/2016 07:35

Avocado slices with salt black pepper and chilli powder = food of the gods.

I personally slice all the way around then use a spoon to take out the stone and the flesh. Leaves no waste.

bookbuddy · 11/10/2016 17:38

Cut it in half use a large spoon and run it around the edges and it will all come out mash it or slice it. I like mine mashed on toast with baby plum tomatoes Grin

Toast, buttered then thin scrape of marmite, top with mashed avocado. Heaven, and some people who hate marmite love this!

I weaned my pfb on avoacado 30 years ago Health visitor was most impressed.I) love the stuff so I reckoned she would too (breast fed)It made an awful mess though .And I may have become middle class as I married 'up' but definitely wasn't born that way

arrrrghhwinehelpswithteens · 11/10/2016 21:17

I split in half, pop out the but then do criss cross cuts in each side & turn inside out into a bowl. Easy. (Not RTFT so apologies if it's a repeat)

ladyjadey · 11/10/2016 21:27

Leave it in the shop. That's my advice. Bleurgh

Thingamajiggy · 11/10/2016 21:51

Toasted sourdough, mashed avocado with salt. Thick, smoked bacon and sliced tomatoes.

For the baby just give it big slices to pick up itself!

Take the stone out and pour a little Briannas into the hole... divine. Briannas makes everything taste amazing though.

Love them esp with chili sauce. I grew a gorgeous p!ant from a stone once but it got so tall I had to boot it out.

Mycraneisfixed · 11/10/2016 22:51

Haven't RTFT but you should buy a special avocado gizmo from Lakeland or Amazon.

anaemicenglishtea · 11/10/2016 22:56

Mash an avocado, sprinkle some salt or sugar. Bobs your uncle.

lalarachel · 12/10/2016 00:22

DO NOT stick a knife point into your avocado stone, causing the knife to slip off the stone, pass through the soft avocado skin and into the palm of your hand. In A & E they told me this is a common error. They said in future thwack the side of the knife into the stone, twist and voila - stone comes out completely. I still love avocados though, with olive oil and lemon.

Allalonenow · 12/10/2016 01:05

Onto a slice of toast add a layer of sliced avocado, cover this with a layer of sliced Camembert or Brie, put back under the grill till the cheese bubbles~ heaven on a plate. Would also work as a toastie filling, or try it with blue cheese too.

I like them with prawn cocktail, or smoked salmon, or diced into a pasta/pesto salad.

For anyone who is dairy intolerant, you can make a mock cream with equal quantities of avocado and mango blitzed together, good with plain cakes such as polenta cake.

Beeziekn33ze · 12/10/2016 01:08

Oh dear, after looking on this thread I so want an avocado, mashed on toast with black pepper - now!! None in house so guess I'd better go to bed, to sleep, perchance to dream - of avocados ...

57968sp · 12/10/2016 07:02

I brought my children up in the Caribbean where Avocado is referred to as "poor man's butter" and is popular as a baby weaning food as it is so packed with goodness so don't deprive your little one just because it is not to your taste.

I love it with a light sprinkling of salt and sometimes lime or lemon juice but give it to baby as it is. Keep the stone in the half you are not using, cover with cling film and put in the fridge to keep it from going brown. This applies to guacamole too. Put the stone back in and cover with cling film, remove stone just before serving.

Threepineapples · 12/10/2016 09:04

I have the avocado slicer from Lakeland it's my best ever kitchen gadget.

Ive thought sometimes if I had to choose only one food to live on for the rest of my life it would be avocados. Yum.

pollymere · 12/10/2016 17:40

I have an avocado knife as my dd loved it as a baby. Lovely mashed with banana for weaning. Just hold steady and cut around with a knife, then twist and pull apart. A ripe one is brown not green. Scoop out with a spoon or cut with the knife. You can also use a butter knife to remove the skin gently before slicing by pushing it between skin and flesh.

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/10/2016 17:57

Avocado, soya vanilla yoghurt, banana and a couple of handfuls of spinach whizzed In my Nutribullet.

Absolutely devine
