Obviously I know you eat it (well the baby will, I will not they're disgusting)

But I mean, what do I do with it? How do I get in? Do I peel it? Just hack straight into it? And then how do I get the lovely neat little slices to be ... Well lovely and neat?

I do have real things going on in my life too I swear Grin

Glad it's not just me Merry, Pinterest leads me to believe the rest of the world thinks it's amazing Grin

CoolToned · 10/10/2016 11:22

MerryMarigold - I will have to try it with lemon juice! But with cream (or milk) + sugar....yum!!!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 10/10/2016 13:49

my fave avocado dish is to scoop out and chop with a tin of salmon, some finely chopped onion and a spoonful or two of cottage cheese, put back in the shell sprinkle with grated cheddar and pop under the grill... mmm delish

FoxesOnSocks · 10/10/2016 13:58

Why did you buy a whole trolley full if you didn't know what to do with them? grin

Pah, ha ha!!

I was going to ask similar. Must be difficult to know what to do with 15,000* avocados.

*guesstimate, officsk number unconfirmed

MerryMarigold · 10/10/2016 15:00

Cooltoned, you will love it. I think the lemon juice enhances the avo flavour. They are perfect together (unlike chocolate and avocado!).

SquinkiesRule · 10/10/2016 15:51

I like it, nice thin slices on a sandwich with turkey, ham lettuce and anything else you fancy. That and guacamole, Mmmmm.

Eolian · 10/10/2016 15:55

Why are you feeding your baby something you think is disgusting?

Maybe because people have different tastes and the baby might not think it's disgusting? Why on earth would parents pass on their food dislikes to their children unnecessarily?

YouCanShoveYourOtherGranny · 10/10/2016 17:33

On everything! use them instead of butter although nothing is as good as butter on toast, bread, crackers. with a bit of ground black pepper. So delicious. And good for you - one of the good fats!

roarityroar · 10/10/2016 17:43

On thin, brown toast with marmite and chilli flakes.

steff13 · 10/10/2016 17:45

I love mashed avocado on toast!

Oh, me, too! With some salt and pepper. Yum.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 10/10/2016 17:55

Cook it with bacon and apple. Serve as finger food. Yum!

Sonders · 10/10/2016 18:08

Fresh guacamole is the best thing to make, it's addictive! I use:

2-3 ripe avocados
1 big over-ripe tomato, pulverised
1 small red onion, diced
1 small red chilli, chopped
juice of half a lime

Chuck all these in a big mixing bowl and smush with a whisk until you get glorious, slightly lump guacamole. Add some coriander if you like it.

Serve with Sainsbury's basics tortilla chips.

Ebbenmeowgi · 10/10/2016 18:19

Try blending it with a banana, 6 dates, milk and cocoa powder - you will love avocado after this! Makes wonderful, creamy milkshakes.

^^ I think you have mentioned that before because I tried it and loved it too. Smile

MyGiddyUncle · 10/10/2016 18:32

Mashed with a can of tuna is my favourite and fastest lunch

Dear God, just the thought of that nearly made me have my lunch up again.

I hate avocado with a passion...it's the texture, it makes me think that's probably what a slug feels like in your mouth.

Both of the dc used to love it when they were babies, I used to give it mashed though.

NoCapes · 10/10/2016 18:34

I mashed half of it and made avocado mush & chicken sandwiches
Baby approved (I still think it's vile) Grin

Still have the other half in the fridge, how long will it last? Will he have to eat it tomorrow or can I leave it till Wednesday?
Does anyone else feel a bit wierd giving the same thing 2 days in a row or am I odd? Blush

Whatever you do don't cook it, there is something very disgusting about warmed up avocado.

I'm not a massive fan of them cold either. They're occasionally ok in a salad and guacamole is nice. But when you consider they have more calories than a chocolate bar, it hardly seems worth it.

NicknameUsed · 10/10/2016 18:36

I just cut an avcocado in half, remove the stone, cut criss crosses in the flesh then sprinkle with balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil and salt. Eaten with a teaspoon this is the ultimate fast food snack.

Why isn't there a yummy smiley?

Purple52 · 10/10/2016 18:37

I always used to mash avocado with bananas. Was an easy picnic for a child that hadn't got enough teeth for sandwiches!!
For me - I tend not to buy it anymore - perhaps I should! Put it in salad. Slice it in toast with a bit of black pepper ......
I used to put babies sweet guacamole leftovers on my salad/sandwich or just eat it with a spoon! It is really delicious!

NicknameUsed · 10/10/2016 18:37

"or can I leave it till Wednesday?"

Ew no. IMO avocado has to be eaten in one go. On its own it has very little taste, but it certainly needs seasoning and something sharp to make it delicious.

Caipira · 10/10/2016 18:45

Those who think avocados have no taste have never eaten one fresh off the tree. Best taste in the world. You can rub lemon juice into half an avacado and keep the stone in. It won't go brown then. You don't have to eat them in one go.

Caipira · 10/10/2016 18:49

Guacamole is easy, peeled and chopped ripe tomato, crushed clove of garlic, mashed avacado, salt and tabasco to taste.

Or Brazilian style in a smoothie with honey and milk. Delicious.

Or Chilean style mashed on burgers.

theonlygeorgie · 10/10/2016 18:51

I think you'll find that the devil's snot is actually oysters.

Aussies eat mashed avocado on brown toast...
