In very difficult times, being good looking has helped me soldier on

Thanks I'm honestly not a troll just trying to mention what I fall back on in difficult times

That's fair enough trefoil. I really do wish you all the best. I'm a bit of a count my blessings type of person. You think at least I've got my health and that kind of thing. It's a very human way to think and shows you're trying to remain strong in the face of adversity.

Trefoil · 03/10/2016 18:32

Thanks intheknickers - the purpose behind it was to try and give some sort of hope to anyone feeling in some way a bit like me

ReginaBlitz · 03/10/2016 18:34

Let's be fair being good looking gets you through. Though when you get past 35 and things start sagging what the fuck you got? This is where personality comes in to play and if you're good looking you can sometimes not bother polishing up your personality and so you are a saggy boring bastard by then. You have no hope.

intheknickersoftime · 03/10/2016 18:35

There's always hope trefoil Smile. If you're feeling rock bottom then theres only one way and that's up. Believe me you're not on your own,. I've got to go out now but will pop back to this thread later. Look after yourself trefoil. It will all be ok.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/10/2016 18:36

But I'm fuck ugly - so I can't even rely on that!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/10/2016 18:37

Counting your blessings is one thing but it does come across as smug to post them randomly on a forum!

Trefoil · 03/10/2016 18:41

Yes Livia but if what you say is true you may have a whole host of other things in your life that give you strength

OP posts:
LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 03/10/2016 18:43

I wouldn't start a thread telling everyone how gorgeous/clever/popular/whatever I was though - it's all a matter of opinion.

I just think that putting so much store in looks is sad and a little shallow. But whatever works for you I guess

it's a bit like saying "at least I've got money"

everyone wants it but it doesn't make you feel good long term

i think it's a really intresting thread OP, thank you for starting it. See, you have other qualities!

Trefoil · 03/10/2016 19:07

I started it because I wanted people to feel there was hope in a bleak situation

sausagefest · 03/10/2016 19:13

Fair play OP. Good on you for finding a positive in a bad situation.

Hope things improve for you soon.

Daydream007 · 03/10/2016 20:19

In addition to your good lucks I hope you have a show stopping personality, an intellectual brain and are highly articulate when discussing current affairs! Don't be defined by your looks as they do fade you know!

PoppyPicklesPenguin · 03/10/2016 21:14

You don't shrivel up and start decaying at 35...

Seen so many threads where people seem to think it's all over past that age, I'm past that age and a long way off buying floral dresses and comfortable shoes.

intheknickersoftime · 03/10/2016 21:30

I think you have more empathy than you realise op. I agree as well that at 46 I feel like I'm entering my prime, like Miss Jean Brodie.

MycatsaPirate · 03/10/2016 21:50

I've been through some utterly horrendous times in my life. I mean really fucking awful things that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

But the thing that keeps me going is inner strength. I wasn't given that inner strength, I had to look for it.

I really don't want to derail your thread so won't start listing stuff but I have had CBT and counselling sessions which helped massively and I've also done some volunteer work which helped my self esteem as well.

You are more than a pretty face. Your soul, your kindness, your warmth to others are all things you should cherish. Find your inner strength and use it.

WoundedSoldier · 03/10/2016 23:15

Wise words, Mycats.

To be grateful for my good looks

I started it because I wanted people to feel there was hope in a bleak situation
But only if you're good looking??

Trefoil · 04/10/2016 15:40

Not necessarily Chpopstick every individual can apply whatever they feel helps them...
In any case, as has been said looks are subjective...

I'm fuck ugly and old and fat with shit teeth.

How did I ever drag myself up and keep going.

Weird thread.

Trefoil · 04/10/2016 15:43

I also have shit teeth ... And I've put on weight. And I can't seem to attract them like I did 6 yrs ago...

OP posts:
Trefoil · 04/10/2016 15:43
