Another parent whose child is in my child's class made a comment about my younger child being ugly Confused. It didn't register at first (I think I was in shock) and I only really took in her comment an hour or so after she had said it.

MiL, on being told that the baby we're expecting is a boy:

Oh AT LAST a [PiL's surname].

Apparently DD doesn't count?!

When I gently pointed out the new baby will have a double-barrelled surname the same as me and DD:

Oh, well only half a [PiL's surname].

There are lots of girls who share PiL's surname in my kids generation (cousins) so not sure why they don't count either.

My dd was 18 months and I was changing her nappy in a baby changing cubicle. Another mum walked in and asked how old my dd was I answered as I thought she was being a friendly mum,she tutted and said that she was nearly 2 and should be out of nappies!!!

The day I came out of hospital after having my last baby I had to take my eldest to his usual activity. I actually liked the thought of showing off my new baby who was 3 days old. One of the other mothers swept over and said "poor little thing, I would never have dragged my newborn out and about in the cold". (It was a sunny day in mid May). I was so stunned it took a while to realise what she'd said!

I keep getting "oh you must have been disappointed when you found out that the third child was 'another' girl?"

Actually you cockwomble I'm grateful that my beautiful daughter and I are Alive after a horrific delivery.

If one more person asks when I'm going to try for a boy I may kill them.

'I need you to stop joking about my daughter (who was then aged 7) marrying your son - she is so stubborn that if she believes they are going to get married when they leave primary, then that's what will happen.' Over my dead body would I let my son marry into such a control freak/deranged family! They were 7 FFS. And anyway - what's so awful about my lovely son! Was so gobsmacked that it only hit me when I got home! My husband thought it was a race thing but I think she was just deranged...

Bbear that's just rinsed me of the time one of our neighbours said 'My Colin wouldn't touch your Jenny (DSis) with a bargepole'. I'm still cross now, 40 years later, because no-one we knew would want to go out with her Colin and they had such an awful surname you'd have to be madly in love to consider marrying him. Grin

Reminded, not rinsed.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with your DC3, he's just like your DC1, and it's down to lax parenting"

This was a parent whose DC was in the same class as DC1, but was talking to me in her capacity as a nursery teacher during a meeting about DC3 starting preschool... I had just told her DC 3 was being assessed for ASD.

Actually there's a huge backstory to that, but it was the last time she criticised my parenting (to my face anyway!), as when I left the meeting I went straight to another nursery school and applied for a place.

"little babies who sleep through the night just stop crying out they know no one will come"

This shocked me so much I burst into tears! PND had convinced me that our luck with a wonderful young sleeper was down to her hating me(?!) but I wasn't prepared for some woman at a baby group to bloody well agree.
