"Let's clear something up right off the bat: I am trans. The reason this seems like a proclamation worth making is that, to the untrained eye, I may seem like your everyday New York City cisgender gay guy. I haven't had any hormones or facial electrolysis, and I don't have any boobs. But make no mistake: I am trans. I wear basically all women's clothing, makeup, and hairdos and I identify as a gender-fluid trans person"

So he is a man. He looks like a man, presents as a man, calls himself Nicholas, and does not refer to himself as a woman but he is upset that he was not allowed to change in the women's rooms despite being told that there were currently young girls in the room.

I don't hate anybody. I'm not anti anyone. If this person wants to identify as a hatstand, let them. That's fine, whatever they need to feel happy.
The trouble is, there are people who are being beaten, discriminated against and murdered because of their gender identity or lack thereof. These people are victims and they need help. Acceptance (in the sense of non-judgement) should be a given, but idiots like this playing special snowflakes and bleating about things that really couldn't matter less are really not helping anyone.
I'm almost invisible in most situations (fat, middle aged white woman). i can pass unnoticed in a changing room, but if my presence was causing fear in other people, then I'd do the decent thing and leave. And a biological man in a woman's changing area does not cause precious hissy-fitting hysterics, it causes fear. This would bother me much less if there were individual cubicles with locks but often there are not.
I support this person's right to identify as a woman, but in order to identify as, you should be able to identify with.

MephistoMarley · 20/09/2016 20:55

So this guy wants to change in the women's changing rooms - why? Because men might harass him in the men's? Sure, I can see that, homophobia is real and dangerous.
Being a man who is at risk in the men's changing rooms because he wears feminine clothes is a bad situation. But to therefore think that means he can change with the women - fuck that. Fuck that hard. Surely people see this is bullshit? 'Identifying' as trans is all very well but a woman you ain't.

LittleWingSoul · 20/09/2016 20:57

Agree Zippy!

Emmeline Pankhurst he ain't!

AndYourBirdCanSing · 20/09/2016 21:03

HE can fuck right off with his 'cis gender' shit. We are WOMEN.

So his feelings are more important than the girls/women who have a right to an all female changing area? Selfish prick of a man.

PickAChew · 20/09/2016 21:03

Zippy wins the Internet!

Most of the time, there's nothing but a flimsy curtain. If you're lucky, it goes all the way from one side of the cubicle to the other.

And that's a vast improvement from the hideous communal changing rooms of the 80s!

Floggingmolly · 20/09/2016 21:05

That attention seeking gobshite is a MAN. If he's claiming to be gender fluid what the fuck IS that?? it can't matter whether he uses the ladies or the gents, can it?

Isn't that what fluid means? Or does it mean I'll wait and see whether I feel like being a man or a woman when I wake up in the morning?
Why are these idiots suddenly all over the place, looking for their 5 minutes of notoriety? Confused

Binkybix · 20/09/2016 21:05

How can he say that it's a post gender world when he's making such a big deal about being trans? It makes no sense at all - even from a TA pov.

Cantusethatname · 20/09/2016 21:05

I support this person's right to identify as a woman, but in order to identify as, you should be able to identify with.

So well put.

PenileImplant · 20/09/2016 21:12

restless.
How am I being goady? Hmm

Do you agree with Urban outfitters? Why would you as me to find out how many posts I have made, how is it relevant? Confused

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 20/09/2016 21:18

It's all so confusing that it's like the whole trans agenda is eating itself as it ties itself in increasingly tight knots of self identification and differentiation whilst simultaneously trying to break down barriers and widen definitions

CancellyMcChequeface · 20/09/2016 21:20

YANBU at all. Nicholas has a ridiculous amount of male entitlement. It's almost as if he did this just for the publicity, because the idea of him believing that the women's changing room was the right place for him to be is just so devoid of logic.

On the flip side, any one of us who has ever gone out wearing men's clothes and without makeup can now identify out of all the disadvantages of being female by saying we're gender-fluid. Right? Oh, wait, it doesn't work that way.

Lorelei76 · 20/09/2016 21:31

apologies if I missed this crucial info somewhere

he has had no treatment so still has a fully functioning penis?

if that's the case, I am 100% with Urban Outfitters and I hope they stick with this policy. Of course a biological male should be changing in the changing room for biological males.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 20/09/2016 21:32

Genuinely want to know what Restless thinks is goady about posting about this. Is it basically goady to do anything other than pretend this isn't happening?

Mintybuttons · 20/09/2016 21:32

Zippy
Absobloodylutely right.

chinlo · 20/09/2016 21:33

I don't really get it. If we accept that gender is a social construct and that identifying as one of two genders is outdated, it still makes sense to separate changing rooms (and toilets, etc.) on sex, right?

So all we really need to do is change the signs from "men" and "women", to "male" and female", isn't it?

chinlo · 20/09/2016 21:34

I mean, 99.9% of the population are either male or female, regardless of their gender.

Floggingmolly · 20/09/2016 21:35

Can anyone explain this "fluid" business to me? Does it mean you don't identify as either male or female - have opted out entirely, as it were; or you want to have two bites at the cherry so reserve the right to be whichever suits you at any particular time??

originalmavis · 20/09/2016 21:36

Some people really do want the world split into 'made', 'female' and 'little special old meeeeeee!!!!!'. I think this bod is the third gender.

PenileImplant · 20/09/2016 21:36

Loralai he hasn't had anything done. Not even waxed his chest hair Hmm

OP posts:
PenileImplant · 20/09/2016 21:38

Flogging, it means you can choose the changing room you want when you want.

So power suit= men's

Posh frock= Women's

SomeDyke · 20/09/2016 21:38

"Can anyone explain this "fluid" business to me?"
Means he's a bit of a drip?....................

PenileImplant · 20/09/2016 21:38

But totally destroying gender roles. Hmm

OP posts:
jay55 · 20/09/2016 21:39

It was urban outfitters, I highly doubt that the mens changing room would be full of homophobic bullies. He wanted to be oooed over.

MephistoMarley · 20/09/2016 21:40

Lorelai the vast majority of trans identifying males (trans women) keep their penis. Around 80% have a penis and many of them will be fully or partially functioning in a sexual sense.

Lorelei76 · 20/09/2016 21:40

YANBU OP

I don;t mind anyone not waxing Grin

but this is my line in the sand. A functioning penis belongs in the male changing area. You cannot imagine yourself to be a particular person in order to gain particular things.

Unless I can imagine royal blood and get on the civil list or a hereditary peerage or something. To a large extent, that's what this is.

but gird yourself OP - there are many posters who believe you should use the bathroom/prison section/changing room/hospital section of the gender you feel yourself to be, not your current set of physical attributes.
