"Let's clear something up right off the bat: I am trans. The reason this seems like a proclamation worth making is that, to the untrained eye, I may seem like your everyday New York City cisgender gay guy. I haven't had any hormones or facial electrolysis, and I don't have any boobs. But make no mistake: I am trans. I wear basically all women's clothing, makeup, and hairdos and I identify as a gender-fluid trans person"

So he is a man. He looks like a man, presents as a man, calls himself Nicholas, and does not refer to himself as a woman but he is upset that he was not allowed to change in the women's rooms despite being told that there were currently young girls in the room.

He and his penis can fuck right off from women only spaces.

Still Spartacus.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/09/2016 07:02

Of those, who find this thread distasteful and trans bashing. Would you seriously support your young daughter getting changed in the same space as this person?

Gender neutral changing areas and toilets, fine, excellent. But that's not up to us as women to give up our space in order to create these spaces. So please, as the weaker sex, we need these safe spaces to be and feel safe.

Children and vulnerable people need to be protected. And yes, some trans/gender fluid people need protection too.

Women campaigned and continue to campaign for their rights and to be acknowledged. Please do the same and not expect to trample all over women.

acasualobserver · 21/09/2016 07:17

How about "penis" and "no penis"? Makes it pretty clear then.

Based on this proposition, would a 6'6" bearded lumberjack - provided he had had his penis amputated - be allowed to use the women's changing room?

SpaceUnicorn · 21/09/2016 07:17

everyday is transphobia day on MN

Yeah, the day that no one bats an eyelid at a man with a penis demanding to be granted access to a changing room in which girls and women are getting undressed can't come soon enough, can it? Hmm

Thecatsmum · 21/09/2016 07:24

I am very much Sparticus!

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 21/09/2016 07:25

And if he is gender fluid, he can fucking flow himself into changing rooms for men.

Genius, Corner. Spot on.

Dangerous, insidious, bullshit. We need to keep noticing, posting, and saying.

AverageGayLadAtChristmas · 21/09/2016 07:26

I'm gay. On occasion I wear quite effeminate clothes. I still get changed in the men's room Hmm Why wouldn't I?

Nobody has ever commented on what I'm wearing, and if I felt uncomfortable I'd leave, not declare myself trans so I can go in the other changing area - causing needless fear and anxiety to many women who really don't deserve to be out upon like that.

WipsGlitter · 21/09/2016 07:32

These trips were instrumental in our discovery of the world and who we could dream of becoming.

This is so American - where shopping with a friend us elevated into some life defining moment.

I literally have no idea what this means: cisgender gay guy.

myownprivateidaho · 21/09/2016 07:35

The trans-hatred on mumsnet is really out of hand. Seems like every day I log on there's another thread like this. I can just about stomach the echo chamber repetition of the same tired arguments (like how a birth-male identifying as a woman underlines the gender dichotomy in a way that a birth-female identifying as a woman and saying that no one else can doesn't) but the constant claims that trans-people "want to be ooed over", think they are "speshul snowflakes", are simply "idiots", and the constant references to individuals' genitalia/breasts/lack of breasts (as if reproductive function were the beginning and end of gender) are simply trans-phobic. It would not be acceptable to talk about another group in society in this way. The high suicide rate among trans people and the level of stigma they receive in society (see the posts in this forum!) should be a clue that people are not doing it for fun or attention, any more than are gay people or autistic people.

myownprivateidaho · 21/09/2016 07:45

I suspect he might be one of those New York City Everyday Cisgender Gay Trans guys. You know, the sort who specialises in elevating camp histrionics and drama llama behaviour to some sort of high performance art.

what a load of self-absorbed bollocks.

Any perv get dress into a dress and take a handbag and insist on access to female changing rooms under the pretence of being trans or fluid.

We are not going to be forced to play 'Mother' to the entire world.

If you want to "identify as a woman" then get your fucking penis cut off.

There is actually an old term for castrated men, eunuchs.

good to see a business not giving into this kind of crap scam attempt at emotional blackmail.

So he's yet another gay male misogynist who thinks women and children are put on this earth to validate his fantasies.

He wanted to be oooed over.

HE can fuck right off with his 'cis gender' shit

That attention seeking gobshite

I like the idea of claiming gender doodah wotzit to use the shorter queues for mens loos :-)

Horrible self-absorbed man

I refuse to call myself cisgender because I'M FUCKING NORMAL!

but he's totes special and tumblr loves him

he has had no treatment so still has a fully functioning penis?

he hasn't had anything done. Not even waxed his chest hair

Fucking ridiculous. Arrogant knobjockey.

what if I a grown woman don't want leery Larry in the next door cubicle.

pmsl

wins the internet

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 21/09/2016 07:45

The high suicide rate among trans people and the level of stigma they receive in society should be a clue that people are not doing it for fun or attention

And therein lies the difference between people with gender/body dysmorphia, and people jumping on the Trans wagon because it gives them something new to be offended about.

People who genuinely believe and feel inside, with every fibre of their being, that they have been born in the wrong body; that they hate being without the body features of the sex they feel they are, they feel wrong etc, will commit suicide when faced with stigma and misunderstanding.

Tumblr Transgenders will write a self-absorbed me-me-me article about how upset they are that shops don't give them special treatment because they've told them that they identify as female/male/an attack helicopter/a Tesco clubcard.

AverageGayLadAtChristmas · 21/09/2016 07:45

"Born with a Penis" and "Not born with a penis".

myownprivateidaho · 21/09/2016 07:48

It's hard to believe that people are interested in a serious discussion of gender when comments like the above dominate.

myownprivateidaho · 21/09/2016 07:49

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 21/09/2016 07:53

"If she wasn't a witch, she would have drowned"

I don't know what your problem with my statement is? Someone above said that trans people kill themselves when faced with stigma. There have been documented trans suicides, no-one can refute that. But the Tumblr Transactivists won't commit suicide. I'm just pointing out the difference between the two.

acasualobserver · 21/09/2016 07:57

"Born with a Penis" and "Not born with a penis".

Well, that wasn't the condition the poster I quoted was stipulating. The requirement was for the removal of his penis before he could use the women's changing room. This suggestion has been echoed by several other posters.

myownprivateidaho · 21/09/2016 07:57

suggesting that having committed suicide is necessary to be taken seriously as a transperson is pretty fucking extreme hatred imo. also fyi www.theguardian.com/society/2014/nov/19/young-transgender-suicide-attempts-survey

ohtheholidays · 21/09/2016 08:11

Dear god I'm a gender DooDah whotzit.

Originalmavis best thing I've ever read on here Grin thankyou first time I've laughed all week.

AverageGayLadAtChristmas · 21/09/2016 08:11

observer Oh, okay, my apologies Flowers

Youarenotprepared · 21/09/2016 08:13

I say well done to urban outfitters for not letting a man into the woman's changing area because he is carrying women's clothes. I would also expect them to refuse a woman entry into the mans changing area of she was carrying men's clothes.

This isn't about Trans rights it's about protection of women. If a man can grab some women's clothes go up to the changing rooms say he identifies as female and gain access to a changing space for women that's a bad thing for women. It would be so easy that you may as well open the doors wide and say come in men and make our women feel vulnerable and uncomfortable.

The best solution is surely to have a seperate gender neutral area for anyone who feels uncomfortable with the segregation. The other alternative would be to make all changing a gender neutral area but with lockable cubicles rather than flimsy curtains. However both of these end up potentially creating more issues.

If you want to be a woman good on you but whilst you have a penis you aren't one so please don't invade my space. For some of us it's hard enough to change in public regardless. If you really want to be a woman please support our right to keep women's areas penis free for our safety and comfort.

WinchesterWoman · 21/09/2016 08:16

I think 'Born With' is good enough? Although I suppose if you've gone to the effort.

acasualobserver · 21/09/2016 08:19

keep women's areas penis free for our safety and comfort.

But would you feel safe and comfortable sharing a changing room (to use my earlier example) with a 6'6" bearded lumberjack provided, of course, that he had had his penis amputated?

RJnomore1 · 21/09/2016 08:19

I'd love to know how the actual trans community of people who have gender dysmorphia and are going through incredibly painful physicals X emotional treatment in order to pass as the other gender feel about people like this who think they can slap a dress on and understand their struggle.

It seems to me their voice is pretty quiet in all of this as well.

phillipp · 21/09/2016 08:19

I don't get it.

He doesn't want to get changed near people who have a penis.

Why does that trump women's rights, to not want to get changed near someone with a penis?

Surely he should understand why I don't want to share changing rooms with someone who has a penis.
