To say no to looking after friends kids

A friend has an interview, now if she gets the job she'll need someone to pick her two kids up from school and keep them till she's finished work. She's asked me to do it. I've had to say no and she isn't too happy! I have two of my own, one 13 and one 7. My 13 yr old walks home from school, I pick my 7 year old up. Her kids are 3 and 7. I really don't want to be burdened with someone else's kids every day after school. I use my very small car to pick youngest up and would need another two car seats which wouldn't fit in my car for a start. We sometimes go out after school and I wouldn't have room for 4 kids in car. Her 7 yr old is a spoilt brat and is really mean to my 7 yr old so that's another reason I don't want to do it! I explained the situation to my friend about having no room in car but she said we could just walk then it would be no problem! I don't want to walk! AIBU to say no? I'm starting to feel like the worse friend ever!

There are many cars (even some quite large ones) that could not take 4 kids because they only have two seat/seats belts in the rear or do not have the room to have 3 car seats in the rear.

Including my 7-seater which has two Isofix points and one shallow/narrow seat in row 2, and two non-Isofix points in row 3. When the new regulations come in (December onwards) then there will only be two child seat places in that seven-seater.

Well it's irrelevant now.....unfortunately she didn't get the job!

Maybe she asked who would be giving her lifts and paying for her lunch?

MrsKoala · 21/09/2016 14:42

I thought she wasn't going to apply now? Grin

She had the interview yesterday, found out this morning she was unsuccessful

Well at least now she knows she has to sort proper childcare if she applies somewhere else, rather than assuming friends will do it all for her.

Was she okay with you? Or a bit off as you said you wouldn't do it?

expatinscotland · 21/09/2016 15:20

Fuck her off. She tries again you tell her no. As for walking the school run, that's your business what you do. It's a PITA round here, the weather's often shit.

paxillin · 21/09/2016 15:28

She probably asked her interviewers if she'd get the director's parking space, if the interviewer would do her typing and if they wouldn't mind doubling the starting salary if her treatment of a "friend" is typical.

JudyCoolibar · 21/09/2016 15:34

Suggest to her she might like to try childminding.

KC225 · 21/09/2016 15:36

Will you go back to normal with her OP or do you think this has Soured the relationship a little?

egginthebun · 21/09/2016 16:18

I'd like to think we could get passed this. She was ok when I saw her at school. I did suggest that maybe she should look at child minding herself, said she couldn't think of anything worse than looking after someone else's kids Confused

She should count herself lucky you didn't go for the obvious comeback,

egginthebun · 21/09/2016 17:43

I think the look on my face said it all!

I hope you said that's exactly how you felt when she asked you!

Yorkieheaven · 21/09/2016 18:02

What a cheeky cow. Unfortunately they are in every school playground and work their way around every move parent until they realise that they are being mugged off.

Some people have the cheek of the devil.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2016 20:37

Def always say no in this situation

Maybe once a week if kids got on but they don't

Cheeky of her saying wouidnt be worth getting the job If had to pay for childcare

Glad she didn't the job !!!
