To wonder who are these people who don't iron

And to wonder what their secrets are? I hear it all the time and have no idea how they manage it. It would be my idea of nirvana not to iron again.

I don't iron either. Unless getting clothes ready for a wedding or interview.

sashh · 16/09/2016 13:37

You don't buy things that are 100% cotton.

You have a good spin cycle on the washer and then hand up damp clothes on hangers - give them a bit of a straighten and leave them to dry.

JudasInTheTescoVan · 16/09/2016 13:37

I iron school shirts and DH irons his work shirts and that's it. Life is too short to be ironing socks and pants!

Nutgirl · 16/09/2016 13:38

I very rarely iron anything. DH irons his shirts for work - once a week on a Sunday night. Don't see any point ironing the kids clothes, they don't care and come home covered in paint, food and dirt anyway. Occasionally might iron a shirt for DS if he has a party but not very often. I iron a couple of my work tops / dresses which really need it but find I wear them less because I can't be bothered with ironing them!

I don't understand the tumble driers helping to remove creases though - I line dry whenever I can and find I get far fewer creases (especially in bedding) when dried on the line. Things seem to come out of the drier really rumpled.

We don't look like tramps either, have a tidy clean house and high levels of personal hygiene. Honestly think people who iron everything are just making work for themselves!

SleepFreeZone · 16/09/2016 13:39

I only iron cotton shirts. Everything else is either line dried or tumble dried and put away straight away.

raisedbyguineapigs · 16/09/2016 13:40

Non iron clothes. I'll do uniform if I have to. Hang out from the machine then fold straight off the line and they dont need ironing.

mydietstartsmonday · 16/09/2016 13:41

Yep hate iron, where clothes that if you hang up after washing are not creased!

myfriendnigel · 16/09/2016 13:42

I rarely iron anything except the odd work blouse or dress.
The trick is to pull clothes out straight whilst hanging them to dry.Works on most items.
And obviously forget pointless ironing of things like sheets and duvet covers.

MyBreadIsEggy · 16/09/2016 13:42

I never stand and iron a load of laundry. I fold it all and put it away, and then if a particular item is obscenely creased when I come to wear it, then I will iron it. But it has to be really bad in order for me to iron it Blush When Dd was a tiny baby, I used to iron everything of hers....not a chance now!
DH uses the iron way more than me to iron his work uniform.

I had a colleague, once, who used to actively enjoy ironing. Apparently, her mother used to let her do it as a 'special treat' if she'd been well behaved. ('If you're very very good, I'll let you iron some shirts'.)

I think it warped her. Grin

Velvetdarkness · 16/09/2016 13:47

I hang stuff carefully to dry so it doesn't crease.
Also I test fabrics in shops. If it creases after being crumpled up in my hand then I don't buy it.

YelloDraw · 16/09/2016 13:48

Hello, I'm one. My secret is that I wear creased clothes.

^This

Suits get dry cleaned
I pay for shirts to be laundered and pressed
Everything else either doesn't need an iron or looks okish a bit creased

crayfish · 16/09/2016 13:50

Never iron anything. I mainly wear shift dresses to work which can be washed, hung up and they look fine. The rest of my clothes probably look creased but I don't care enought to iron. Loads of my friends iron their babies clothes but i don't do that either, he easily gets through two outfits a day and I just don't have time for all that ironing (I work full-time) and he doesn't care what he looks like. His clothes are always clean though.

There is no secret really, you just have to be ok with creased clothes!

Hellochicken · 16/09/2016 13:54

I also dont iron. I wear sl creased clothes or try and buy ones that dont crease. DH irons some of his clothes so we do have an iron. Children and bedding is sl crinkly.

TwoLittleBlooms · 16/09/2016 13:55

I only iron in extreme cases (probably happens maybe once or twice a year and only one item). If something needs ironing (work/school shirts) then I put them in the dryer on refresh setting, then give them a shake no need to get the iron out!

nonicknameseemsavailable · 16/09/2016 13:57

I don't iron. I just wear crumpled clothes or hang them in the bathroom in the hope the creases drop out. I do obviously iron if it is for something important.

ReginaBlitz · 16/09/2016 14:00

Life isn't to short to iron when you need too! You can't send kids school in creased uniform and un ironed jeans look awful! I find ironing therapeutic only do it when I need to though.

TENDTOprocrastinate · 16/09/2016 14:02

A decent big tumble drier is key (not a washer/drier combo)
Then fold straight after drying.
Buy mostly clothes that don't need ironing.
Don't waste time ironing bed sheets/underwear- waste of time imo.
Finally spend £20 per month paying someone else to iron the essential ironing (mostly smart work shirts for dh and I)
I don't iron.

VerbenaGirl · 16/09/2016 14:04

I rarely iron - the only exceptions are linen trousers for work in the summer, which I just can't get away with not ironing. And the odd smart shirt for DH when we are going out (which he's equally happy to iron - depending on who has a spare minute when we are getting ready to go out). I'm really careful to give the washing that might potentially need an iron a good shake / stretch and hang it out or up as soon as it is finished, e.g. school uniform goes straight on hangers. That way it comes out good enough for me. I suspect some people might like it a bit 'crisper', but we can certainly live with it for the extra time it frees up!

dodobookends · 16/09/2016 14:05

I have someone who does my ironing. DH Smile

anyoldname76 · 16/09/2016 14:06

i iron school uniform for my dc, if something is really creased I'll iron it but mostly everything else gets folded and put away.

wildflowermeadows · 16/09/2016 14:06

I love a pile of ironing, I find it relaxing. I save it up till there's a big pile and do it on a Sunday afternoon while watching property shows or Four in a Bed. My dh never used to iron his clothes so I iron all his T shirts, trousers, pyjamas etc. my mum irons her pants, I draw the line at that though.

Fluffsnuts · 16/09/2016 14:07

I buy clothes that don't need ironing in the main, some fabrics and some clothes will always need ironing - smart shirts for example. I shake well before hanging out to dry.

My mum irons everything but underwear. When ever I say ' I don't iron' she says 'but you ironed that' (pointing at what ever top I have on). So you can't tell. Unless you can, some people just don't care!
