To wonder who are these people who don't iron

And to wonder what their secrets are? I hear it all the time and have no idea how they manage it. It would be my idea of nirvana not to iron again.

That would me me, lol. Wash clothes using a decent fabric conditioner. Take clothes out as soon as was has finished, give each item a good shake out and hang on clothes airer with plenty of space and not scrunched up. We don't have office jobs though so no smart shirts to contend with, although dd18 wears shirt and trousers for work, put shirt on hanger to dry and good to go.

oklumberjack · 16/09/2016 12:41

I meant to say in my first paragraph that my clothes aren't creased!

MissMooMoo · 16/09/2016 12:42

humphrey tumble drying is the opposite,it blasts the clothing with heat and you def don't have to iron most stuff that comes out.

I know lots of people who don't iron, they look creased.

MaisieDotes · 16/09/2016 12:42

Me. I am one.

I just fold things and they seem OK. DD's school blouses are some awful poly-mix so they don't need to be ironed, just hung.

DH doesn't wear shirts for work and the DSs clothes are all t-shirt material.

I will iron if absolutely necessary but it's rare. Once every few months probably.

Felascloak · 16/09/2016 12:42

I very very rarely iron. DH irons his work shirts. I mainly wear dresses or trousers in non crease fabric for work. Never wear blouses, usually lycra mix tops and keep them hung up.

WowOoo · 16/09/2016 12:43

I've just seen a woman with quite creased clothing. She was in front of me in a queue...Maybe it was you BorpBorpBorp!

I try to do tumble drying when I'm at home and can fold it instantly. I'll flatten stuff as much as I can before I hang. But, I do have to iron uniforms and work clothes. I bloody hate it - even with TV or music on.

Hmmnotkeen · 16/09/2016 12:43

I clearly am not a crease-seer! No iron here and I think we all look fine!

PageStillNotFound404 · 16/09/2016 12:44

I rarely buy clothes that will crease. I also have a tumble dryer with a "no crease" setting and hang up / fold straight out of the dryer. I probably iron - as in iron a particular garment that I want to wear that day and which slipped through the "don't buy creasing clothes" criteria, not a big pile - about 4 times a year.

I never bother ironing bedding or tea towels or household linen. Life's too short.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 16/09/2016 12:44

I do not possess an iron anymore.
I'm mindful of the clothes I buy, regarding fabrics.
I use softener.
Don't overfill the washing machine.
Dry clothes in tumble drier, and fold whilst still hot.
There you go !

coffeetasteslikeshit · 16/09/2016 12:44

I don't iron, never have done. I definitely don't see creases!

Fink · 16/09/2016 12:44

A lot of it is about the choice of clothes. I don't iron 95%+ of the family's clothes but I do make an exception for a few smart shirts which just can't get away without being ironed. I don't use a tumble drier. I do hang things out as flat as possible straight after the wash has finished.

JeanGenie23 · 16/09/2016 12:46

I wear a lot of Uniqlo tshirts and cropped trousers that don't need ironing, just hang them to dry.
DH also loves getting the iron out so he does all his own shirts

flagnogbagnog · 16/09/2016 12:46

Yes I don't iron either. DH irons work shirts. If we were going to a wedding or special occasion I possibly would.

Too be honest I have had to lower my standards a bit and accept sometimes stuff if creased. But just make a point of folding things well as soon as they've dried. Also simply hanging tops up for a few days and most of the crease drop out. I don't bother with linen clothing.

Hockeydude · 16/09/2016 12:47

Me. I iron nothing ever apart from the occasional Hama bead creation. I also don't have a single item of laundry needing doing.

What items are causing you problems? Say what they are and we can help.

Eg shirt - (do not overload either machine) Get easy care shirts, tumble them and hang up as soon as drying finished. Or as soon as wash cycle finished, get shirt out, hang on hanger. Either way must be non iron/easy care for a really good result. I honestly would bin anything that caused me work. Or preferably not buy it in the first place. I never buy anything without reading the care label. Take less than a minute and will save hours or pointlessly slaving.

Eg chinos - take out of washer (which you will not have overloaded!) and hold waist with one hand and ankle part with other. Pull flat ish (less than one min), hang carefully.

It all hinges on careful buying, not overloading machines and removing items as soon as the cycle finishes IMO.

Most of my kids clothes wash and tumble, put away. no messing. Ever.

P1nkP0ppy · 16/09/2016 12:47

I love ironing slinks away in shame
😀

Kenduskeag · 16/09/2016 12:48

I dry clothes on a line, ergo, no wrinkles.

I don't iron bedsheets and teatowels and knickers because I'm not insane.

NotAPuffin · 16/09/2016 12:48

DH and I dress casually for work. All the kids' stuff is non-iron except for DS's school trousers, so I've started to iron those. We had to buy an ironing board for them though as we didn't have one, and I'm not ironing anything else.

whywonthedgehogssharethehedge · 16/09/2016 12:50

We all wear jeans and non iron T-shirts mostly. I Hang them to dry then fold.

I iron school pants and shirts and the odd dress. That's it.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 16/09/2016 12:50

Meeeee Grin Hate it. If I'm going somewhere where I have to look respectable I might iron a top, that's my limit! Life is far too short IMO.

MargotLovedTom · 16/09/2016 12:50

I can tell when something hasn't been ironed.

I don't want to use a tumble drier constantly. Clothes shrink and fabrics get really worn, and it's expensive.

Ironing is the one household task I don't mind doing. I watch tv whilst doing it, and find it quite therapeutic.

eyebrowsonfleek · 16/09/2016 12:51

I don't because the stuff that needs to be ironed (school shirts) are done by my teens. Grin

SteggySawUs · 16/09/2016 12:51

Stuff dries how you hang it. If you just chuck it on an airer or radiator you'll need to iron. If you give it a good shake and hang it straight then it'll dry straight and you can fold and put away without ironing.

CecilyP · 16/09/2016 12:51

Here I am. I just take clothes out of the machine as soon as it finishes, give them a good shake and hang them neatly on the line. If raining a put blouses and t-shirts on hangers on clothes horse. Then put straigh away in wardrobe before for they get a chance to get creased.

I have a few cotton/linen blouses that do need an iron, but otherwise I dont bother. Don't iron trousers as my chunky legs have the same effect as an iron. I can't looked too creased as people often express surprise when I tell them I don't iron.

fittedcupboard · 16/09/2016 12:52

Take things out of the washing machine soon after it finishes, straight in the tumble dryer = very little needs ironing.
