To wonder who are these people who don't iron

And to wonder what their secrets are? I hear it all the time and have no idea how they manage it. It would be my idea of nirvana not to iron again.

I don't. I wear scrubs at work, which are laundered on site so don't have to worry about that. The rest of my clothes I hang up as soon as they're finished washing, and then just wear them without caring too much if people think they look creased.

DH has non-iron shirts - I was sceptical about them because even after drying on hangers they still looked creased, but apparently when worn the creases start to be less obvious as they warm with the wearer's body heat. This seems to work. We have a few special items which need ironing but they come out once in a blue moon so it's not strenuous.

janinlondon · 16/09/2016 13:08

DD has started shopping for clothes the way I do - wander through the store scrunching the fabric up to see how much it creases....

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 16/09/2016 13:08

I have been liberated from a person who ironed everything into a person who irons virtually nothing.
Buy non iron shirts and hang them on hangers to dry.
Also hang skirts, dresses, blouses, trousers to dry while wet.
Fold and smooth out creases for bed linen, tops, towels, t shirts and jeans.
Life is too short to iron.

janinlondon · 16/09/2016 13:08

I learned it from my mum.

TaggySits · 16/09/2016 13:09

I'm ironing frequently at the minute. Trying to get all 10,000 Hama beads (thanks for that present DSis!) used up before I go insane finding them all over the house.

SpeakNoWords · 16/09/2016 13:09

We're a no-iron household too. I hang things as soon as they're washed, and choose things that don't crease badly. I don't care at all what anyone else thinks about how creased or not my clothes are.

queenofthemountains · 16/09/2016 13:10

I don't iron and I don't care about creases. I never understood my mother spending hours every week ironing, consequently I can't be bothered. I buy clothes that don't need ironing.

PuppyMonkey · 16/09/2016 13:11

I gave up ironing about five years ago. Life changing.

The trick is to master the art of hanging clothes properly while wet.

And to not be arsed about a few creases that will drop out when you wear clothes.

LunaLoveg00d · 16/09/2016 13:13

Me - I hate ironing and the only things which get ironed are husband's work shirts and some of my son's school shirts, the 100% cotton ones. Everything else is taken off the line, shaken, folded and worn as is. If something is VERY creased like a linen top I will give it a quick run over before I want to wear it.

Life is simply too short for ironing pyjamas, bedding, underwear, jeans and t-shirts.

littleprincesssara · 16/09/2016 13:15

I never wear or have to wear the kind of clothes that need ironing. Jeans and tshirts.

PageStillNotFound404 · 16/09/2016 13:17

I also don't own a tumble drier... does that help with not ironing? I presume clothes come out of them quite creased?

The exact opposite actually, if you use the right settings and hang up or fold straight away while the clothes are still warm.

barefootinkitchen · 16/09/2016 13:17

I buy non iron clothes . I shake DP's work shirts and hang them on hangers to dry. Once my mum came to stay and ironed his shirts. They did look smarter I thought.

Sleepingbunnies · 16/09/2016 13:19

I just hang stuff up to dry. You can't tell

Partybugs · 16/09/2016 13:21

4 kids and no ironing here.. I have a shower pole up high above the washer and dryer, and shake and then hang everything on hangers. Then fold and get kids to take upstairs. I only tumble dry towels and bedding if rainy outside.

Partybugs · 16/09/2016 13:22

Oh, and thought with oldest dd starting senior school (compulsory shirt and tie) I'd need to iron her shirts, but no! Sainsburys non iron girls shirts are truly non iron.. No creases

sportinguista · 16/09/2016 13:22

I buy stuff that doesn't need ironing mostly. Work from home so nobody gives a crap what I wear, DH works as a forklift driver, he doesn't need to worry about creasing, DS school uniform is polo shirts and non iron stuff. I hate ironing, got put off when I saw my dad ironing his bloody Y fronts. Why would you?

MagikarpetRide · 16/09/2016 13:24

I rarely iron. MIL DH does his shirts. I don't buy clothes in materials that crease easily. We hang clothes on hangers to dry or pull out of tumble dryer and fold quickly.

JensenAcklesUndercrackers · 16/09/2016 13:25

I don't iron if I can help it. My trick is to tumble it, fold it while still warm and leave it neatly folded in a basket with towels weighting it down.
Failing that I embrace the creases, life is far too short.

MagikarpetRide · 16/09/2016 13:25

Oh, and some items get part tumbled then finished off hanging on hangers.

BalloonSlayer · 16/09/2016 13:25

But everything shrinks in the tumble dryer?

How can you ever get into your trousers ever again if you tumble dry them (or is that the secret - they become so tight there is no spare fabric to wrinkle?)

cozietoesie · 16/09/2016 13:27

Ironing is a deep perversion. Anyone in this household needs something ironed, they can do it themselves. Grin

JC23 · 16/09/2016 13:29

I have a few items of clothing that I
iron but mostly I don't bother. Just hang things up.
Ironing bedding, towels and/or underwear is completely bonkers.

megletthesecond · 16/09/2016 13:32

Buy clothes that don't need ironing.
Hang up on washing line or airer to dry.
Hang straight into wardrobe.

Houseconfusion · 16/09/2016 13:34

Uhm. I don't iron. I'm a university lecturer travel often for conferences and am also often covered in baby snot but I never iron
