To buy a beauty advent calendar at £95-£150 ?

Hi guys ,

I've been wanting the Selfridges advent calendars(£95) since they started doing them but could never part with the money . This year, I'm seriously considering buying it or the Charlotte Tilbury one (£150). It will be out in October and usually sells out quick and then I'll need to get it on Amazon for extortionate prices - so, I need to decide pretty quick if I should put money aside for one of them.

Has anyone bought either previously? Are they worth the money? Would you aplurge and treat yourself for Christmas?

I really want one!
Last year I was sensible, got a empty advent calendar with pockets, emptied out my sample box and told my DP to fill the calendar. It was great! Really want a "proper" one this year though.

I bought 2 of this years new one yesterday the Decleor one off Amazon. RRP £180 it was on there for £43 + £4.50 shipping. It's now increased to £60 + £3.00 shipping. So get them while there still cheap on there.

I really want the liberty one, but I can't afford it. I think next year ill put aside £15 a month so I can get it.

Clickclickclick · 05/10/2016 08:47

Are there any for men? Apart from the usual whisky or beer ones?

Idliketobeabutterfly · 06/10/2016 12:27

There's an article here about male ones . Some are bk this year and links in article may be to last years

I ordered the Clarins one today. I had a £15 loyalty voucher so it wasn't too bad. I will never do it again and have wanted one ever since they've been coming out am very excited and not being at all cool about it

I know they're not being highly rated on this thread but Clarins is just so effective on my skin so it's just want I want. No other products ever work as well for me.

I bought a crate of 24 bottles of beer from our local brewery for DH last year, wrapped the box and cut doors in it. He seemed fairly happy Grin.

I sometimes think I live in another world where people can afford to spend over 100 pounds on an advent calendar!

whirlygirly · 06/10/2016 19:22

I started with the Thorntons, moved on to body shop and this year have the l'occitane one on order. I really enjoy them. It feels like a lovely luxurious treat given what an utter slog December can be to sort everything for everyone else.
A friends lovely dh treats her to the liberty one every year. Envy

Soupandasandwich · 06/10/2016 20:22

I've never had a beauty advent calendar before, but I do love L'occitane so when I got the email last weekend I decided to treat myself. So I ordered one, along with a reduced price gift set, last Saturday. Then I decided to get one as a gift for someone, so ordered another one, with a different reduced price gift set, as well. They arrived today. I haven't opened them yet as I'm not sure I'd manage to restrain myself until 1st of December! Can't wait to give the gift one to its recipient. I just know they will love it. Am planning to give it early so they can open it in the lead up to Christmas.

whirlygirly · 06/10/2016 20:37

Ooh soup, I ordered last sat too. Hope mine arrives tomorrow (so it can sit in a cupboard for 7 weeks Grin)

glueandstick · 06/10/2016 20:47

It has been a long year. I'm ordering the diptyque one and will enjoy every bloody day.

Soupandasandwich · 06/10/2016 21:38

Whirly Grin I'm going to have to hide it away from myself!

bedelia · 09/10/2016 12:41

This will be the first year I've treated myself to an advent calendar Smile

I bought DD the Jack Wills one from Boots (it's £35 but on 3 for 2 if anyone's interested) and it looks lovely, very well made. DD is definitely pleased with it, I have no idea of the quality of products though, they are all travel-sized by the looks of it, with a few days worth of hair accessories thrown in.

As an extra treat to share with DD got the Loccitaine one (seeing as I missed out because they sold out so quickly last year!). Very pleased with it, especially as I love the products.

DS plans to get me the Liberty one as a combined birthday/Christmas present Grin I am thrilled and feeling very spoilt!

Nell51 · 09/10/2016 12:49

The Liberty calendar is gorgeous. If only I had the money this year but hopefully next year!

QOD · 09/10/2016 14:20

Well I Picked up 2 Aldi cuvée Advent calendars today, much bigger than expected!
They're already on eBay for £35 (not mine, mine are for me and my Ma)

I want the sanctuary one, only 25quid, but better for me than most beauty ones as I don't really wear make up regularly

JsOtherHalf · 10/10/2016 21:40

I got the Aldi one this morning. There were stacks of them...

( ponders selling on ebay)

This thread has perked me up! Last year I treated myself to the Jo Malone advent calendar. Thoroughly worth every penny if you enjoy her scents and body creams.

I am going to treat myself to Jo Malone and Liberty this year (if they don't run out). x

FormerlyCatherineDeB · 11/10/2016 07:08

I keep checking this thread in a slightly tempted way ..... and then look in my basket in the bathroom with all the stuff from my L'occitane calendar from last year languishing on the shelf.

I think I am heading towards a posh chocolate one instead.
