To buy a beauty advent calendar at £95-£150 ?

Hi guys ,

I've been wanting the Selfridges advent calendars(£95) since they started doing them but could never part with the money . This year, I'm seriously considering buying it or the Charlotte Tilbury one (£150). It will be out in October and usually sells out quick and then I'll need to get it on Amazon for extortionate prices - so, I need to decide pretty quick if I should put money aside for one of them.

Has anyone bought either previously? Are they worth the money? Would you aplurge and treat yourself for Christmas?

Oh gosh, I never knew about these. The liberty one is beautiful. I might just have to treat myself.

Tempted to get a stationery one for dd. Any more links? Has anyone had the smiggle one before, and was it nice?

Nanasueathome · 01/10/2016 17:20

I so need the Liberty one
Will settle for the Jo Malone one if Liberty sells out

LaurieMarlow · 01/10/2016 17:24

They are fab. Go for it if you can afford it. I suspect money will be too tight for me to indulge this year, but maybe next. Wink

Idliketobeabutterfly · 01/10/2016 17:27

I got tinc and smiggle last year and enjoyed both. Tinc was annoying last year as items travelled but lots of fun. One sec I'll grab my contents from last years

Tinc and smiggle contents from last year.

Hmm, very cute, butterfly! Out of interest, which of the two would you recommend overall?

HerFaceIsaMapOfTheWorld · 01/10/2016 18:39

If you can afford it then treat yourself this year just this once.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 01/10/2016 18:40

probably smiggle but it's a close call but they might be better this year as I think it was the first year for both.

I have bought the tinc one on the back of this thread for DD Grin, available at tinc on 6 October but for sale now at John Lewis. My first Xmas purchase!

Noticed that The Works have a stationery one for £5 but that it is sold out online.

I got crate half price last year and would agree not to bother.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/10/2016 16:56

Ciate.....doh

Nanasueathome · 02/10/2016 16:58

Well, I have given in and purchased the Bare Minerals advent calendar for my DIL
It's available at QVC and it says it is in stock
I am excited now

Still want the Liberty one for myself though

HemanOrSheRa · 02/10/2016 17:13

The Rituals calendar looks nice. It's £49.50 and mainly face and body products so no worries about make up that doesn't suit. www.reallyree.com/2016/09/rituals-advent-calendar-2016.html. You can sign up for a notification when it goes on sale on the Rituals website.

AlbertaDewdrop · 02/10/2016 17:22

What date does the Liberty calendar come out?

HemanOrSheRa · 02/10/2016 17:33

The end of October Alberta. Bit vague Confused. I've signed up for newsletters in the hope I'll get an email.

Piscivorus · 03/10/2016 00:16

I agree that Clarins was really disappointing last year, teeny-tiny free samples so it was really just £60 for the cardboard

Can't decide between You Beauty and Look Fantastic

joangray38 · 03/10/2016 00:30

I an saving for the paul & Joe beaute one as it has a cat shaped eyeshadow in it

Idliketobeabutterfly · 03/10/2016 09:42

Yep clarins was extremely meh. As for the decision between LF and YBD I can't help as I'm getting both. Can show you contents from last year if you wish though

HemanOrSheRa · 03/10/2016 09:45

Ooh yes please butterfly. I've already pre ordered the LF one as it looks like a good mix of products and brands.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 03/10/2016 09:53

In order these are Lf, YBD and Clarins. Or if not showing in order the LF has the pink tangleteezer

HemanOrSheRa · 03/10/2016 10:27

Oooh they are lovely! Thank you! Was the Clarins rubbish? They look like generous sized products. I don't use Clarins but I'm sure one of my stepdaughters wouldn't say no!

The M&S one looks like must have if you're going to be spending £35+ there anyway. Even if you empty the calendar and use the contents as stocking fillers.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 03/10/2016 10:45

The Clarins wasn't very good value for money IMO and I wouldn't buy it again. Plenty of others this year and growing year on year.

I'm after m and s this year as I really liked the brands.

Piscivorus · 04/10/2016 00:55

I thought the Clarins was poor value too. If you were organised you could visit their counters, get free samples and make your own, there was only the Christmas Eve product that was a reasonable size, the others were all about 5ml
